KOINONIA HOUSE ANNOUNCES DEATH OF FOUNDER Reporoa, NZ — Koinonia House announces the death of its Founder and retired Board Chairman, Dr. Charles W. “Chuck” Missler. He was 83 years old, and passed away peacefully at his home in Reporoa, New Zealand. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy and his two sons, Charles “Chip” and Mark. He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Bright and Meshell Missler, and eight grandchildren. Two Careers in One Lifetime Dr. Missler was fond of saying that he enjoyed two careers following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy and service in the armed forces: leading edge technology ventures and biblical studies. Truly, the passion of his life was encouraging of others to commit to the serious study of the Bible as the inerrant Word of God. Biblical Studies and Koinonia House Dr. Missler gained international recognition as a Bible scholar, author and teacher. Through an informal affiliation with Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, California, Chuck became known for his insight into the integration of Scripture with science, history and prophecy. Over more than forty years, literally millions of Dr. Missler’s teachings have been distributed and enjoyed. From cassette tapes to MP3 audio down loads, from VCR tapes to YouTube videos, the message of “The Grand Adventure” has been enjoyed by many. 2

American Technology Ventures During his thirty year business career, Chuck served on the Board of Directors of over a dozen public companies, and was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of five of them. Dr. Missler received a Congressional appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Upon graduating with honors, he received his commission in the U.S. Air Force. When he had completed his military obligations, he became Branch Chief of the Department of Guided Missiles at Lowry Air Force Base. Chuck completed a Masters Degree in engineering at UCLA with additional post-graduate studies in applied mathematics, advanced statistics, and information sciences; he completed his PhD at Louisiana Baptist University. His civilian career began as a systems engineer at TRW, followed by a Senior Analyst position in a “think tank” serving both the intelligence community and the Department of Defense. Recruited by the Ford Motor Company into a Senior Management position, Chuck established the first international industrial computer network in 1966. Leaving Ford to start his own company, he founded a computer networking organization later acquired by Automatic Data Processing (NYSE) to become its Network Services Division. He subsequently served as a consultant to the Board of Directors of Rockwell International for corporate acquisitions (which included Collins Radio, American Data Systems, and others); and has also participated in over 100 business ventures as a principal, strategic advisor, or turnaround specialist. His final consultancy in the American technology sector was as an advisor to the Super-Wide Area Satellite (SWANsat) System, an international telecommunications venture. After being a lifelong citizen of the United States, Dr. Missler immigrated to New Zealand in 2010 where he resided with his wife Nancy. A memorial service will be held in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (Date to be determined) and a funeral/burial service will be held on 16 June in Reporoa, New Zealand. VOLUME 28 | ISSUE 05 |

srael became a nation in 1948 and will celebrate 70 years of independence this year. This will be an eventful year for Israel.
The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 became a public law of the United States, passed by the 104th Congress on October 23, 1995. The Act recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel, however, President Trump was the first U.S. president to formally declare it in December, 2017. He set in motion the plan to move the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to the Holy City. This move may coincide with Israel’s 70th Independence Day. Lawmakers in Honduras just voted to relocate the country’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and other countries may eventually follow America’s lead. But let’s back up a moment, or several thousands of years. Time for another history lesson of how Israel has arrived at this point in history. In this month’s Personal UPDATE, Ron Matsen presents an excellent article on Israel’s right to the land. t is amazing to watch the world-wide media moguls and how they will generally spin every crisis in the Middle East so that it appears that the trail of culpability always leads back to the policies and practices of the current State of Israel. The delegitimization of Israel seems to be on everyone’s agenda. Why is this? Identifying the Problem By the start of 1990, more than 50% of the United Nations Security Council resolutions were aimed at Israel and more that 60% of the United Nations General Assembly resolutions were involving Israel. As of 2013, Israel had been condemned in 45 resolutions by United Nations Human Rights Council (more than all nations of the world combined).

In October 2003, an unpublished European Commission poll of 7,500 key Europeans said that Israel is “the top threat to world peace, ahead of North Korea, Afghanistan and Iran.” The survey of 500 people “from each of the EU’s member nations included a list of 15 countries with the question, ‘tell me if in your opinion it presents or not a threat to peace in the world’. Israel was reportedly picked by 59 per cent of those interviewed.”1 On December 23, 2016 the 15-member UN Security Council voted 14 to 0 to pass Resolution 2334, with the United States ambassador, Samantha Power, raising her hand as the lone abstention. This resolution states that Israel’s settlement activity constitutes a “flagrant violation” of international law and has “no legal validity”. It demands that Israel must stop such activity and fulfill its obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention.2 “Occupying power?”

To the untrained eye, it would appear that the primary problem of the world is centered squarely on the State of Israel; and therefore, the principle purpose of the United Nations governing body is to correct and control this tiny nation. To understand the confusion, you need to understand the context of this prickly political problem. Entering the Promised Land From my point of view, a Biblical perspective is the best place to start. The Biblical scholar Dr. Arnold G. Fruchtenbaum says, “There are eight covenants declared by God in the Bible. The Abrahamic Covenant states: “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” 4 This covenant has been challenged by the world from its inception and is now manifested with the world-wide epidemic of antisemitism. Later, after Abram came back from his victory over the armies at Kadesh we read: “In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.” 5 The confirmation of this promise by God was done in such a way that it rendered the covenant unconditional. The entirety of Genesis 15:1-21 gives a more detailed description of many provisions of the Abrahamic Covenant as well as defining the exact borders. Later God adds physical circumcision as the token or sign of this covenant.6 Again the emphasis of Genesis 17:1-21 is on the token of the covenant: physical circumcision on the eighth day of a boy’s life. Just as the rainbow was the token of the Noahic Covenant, so circumcision is the token of the Abrahamic Covenant. The Land Covenant found in Scripture is God’s promise to restore Israel to their promised land. God told Israel that He would scatter Israel if they disobeyed Him7 but then promised to restore them to their land. 4 Genesis 12:1-3 5 Genesis 15:18-21 6 Genesis 17:1-21 7 Leviticus 26

“And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee, and shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee. And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers: If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.” 8 The substance of this Land Covenant is firmly rooted in the Abrahamic Covenant in that it assures Israel of God’s commitment to keeping His promise despite their performance. of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 and the rebirth of Israel as a sovereign nation in 1948. To a p p r e c i a t e t h e issue of the Land of Israel, we need to look at the acquisition and occupation of the land by the people of Israel. Abraham was promised that land “from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.� After Moses lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt, Joshua lead the nation into the Promised Land. Although they did not take possession of all the inheritance they could under the promise given to Abraham, each of the twelve tribes were assigned a portion of the land they concurred as an everlasting land-lease from God. Under the rule of King David, Israel expanded its borders to include portions of Syria and modern-day Lebanon but by the end of the rule of Hezekiah, Israel was reduced to a fraction of its original size.

Enduring a History of Servitude In the history of the world no other people-group have been able to maintain their identity, heritage, and sense of national destiny like the Israelites. From circa 587 B.C. to A.D. 1948 the Nation of Israel has been a vasal state11 which had to suffer under the constant rule of foreign governments. First, they were carried away by the Babylonians under King Nebuchadnezzar. Then, after the conquering of Babylon by Cyrus the Great, Israel was ruled by the Medo-Persian Empire. The Persian Empire was good to the Jews and helped them return to their homeland and rebuild both their Temple12 and Jerusalem.13 Alexander the Great became Israel’s next ruler as the Greek Empire replaced the Persians. were the rulers of Israel at the time of Jesus Christ. When the Jews rebelled in A.D. 66 the Roman General Titus besieged Jerusalem and by A.D. 70 the Romans had breached its wall, killed an estimated 1 million people, and the Jewish Temple was destroyed down to the ground as predicted by Jesus Christ.14 After the Jewish Bar Kokhba Revolt (A.D. 132-135) the city of Jerusalem was completely destroyed. Under orders from the Roman emperor Hadrian “the Romans plowed Jerusalem with a yoke of oxen. Jews were sold into slavery and many were transported to Egypt. Judean settlements were not rebuilt. Jerusalem was turned into a pagan city called Aelia Capitolina and the Jews were forbidden to live there. They were permitted to enter only on the 9th of Av to mourn their losses in the revolt. Hadrian changed the country’s name from Judea to Syria Palestina.”15 The Roman Empire morphed into the Byzantine Empire which ultimately lost control of the Land of Israel to the emerging expansion of Islam during the times of the Crusades. The territorial expansion of Islam gave rise to the Caliphate form of government through the Muslim world. under these warlords, life was difficult as they were seen as nothing better than second class citizens. By the 16th Century, the warring factions of Islam were consolidated into the Ottoman Empire. Following the Ottoman conquest in 1517, the Land of Israel was divided into four districts and attached administratively to the province of Damascus and ruled from Istanbul. At the outset of the Ottoman era, an estimated 1,000 Jewish families lived in the Promised Land. The land experienced orderly government which brought improvements and stimulated Jewish immigration until the death of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent in 1566.16 On May 19, 1916, during the Great War (WW1), a secret meeting was held between Great Britain and France resulting in the Sykes-Picot Agreement; by which most of the Arab lands under the rule of the Ottoman Empire were to be divided into British and French spheres of influence at the conclusion of war.17 The stage was set for the future discussions of a homeland for the Jews. 16 http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/ottoman-rule-1517-1917 17 https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/britain-and-france-conclude-sykes-picot-agreement VOLUME 28 | ISSUE 05 |

This lead to the Balfour Declaration of November 2, 1917. It was a statement of British support for “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.� It was made in a letter from Arthur James Balfour, the British foreign secretary, to Lionel Walter Rothschild, Second Baron Rothschild (of Tring), a leader of British Jewry.18 In April of 1920, at San Remo, Italy, the victorious Allies confirmed the pledge contained in the Balfour Declaration concerning the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine.19 The first partition of Palestine took place in 1922, when the British government excluded Transjordan from the area to which the provisions of the Balfour Declaration would apply. 20 In the following years, many different commissions were formed and ideas explored; in an attempt to resolve the problems associated with the establishment of a Jewish home land, but they all ended in failure one way or another. This would lead to 26 years of frustration for the British, Jews and Muslims alike. Establishing a Nation in a Day On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion publicly pronounced the Israeli Declaration of Independence. after the end of the 6-months civil war whereby the United Nations voted to partition the land between Jews and Arabs. The area defined by the U.N. was not contiguous and left this new Jewish state with scarcely defendable boarders. Nonetheless, Israel continued to survive and even prosper for the next 20 years. After defeating the combined forces of Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq in the 6-Day War of 1967, Israel gained control of the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, Old City of Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. This surprise victory over these Arab nations was a shock to the whole world as they had expected that the State of Israel would have been wiped out by the superior forces of their Muslim neighbors. Israel now had a defensible buffer zone around their homeland. In 1972, Egypt and Syria would once again attack Israel only this time it would be on Yom Kippur (the most holy day in Israel). Although Israel was victorious once again, it paid a very heavy price for being caught by surprise. On September 17, 1978, United States president Jimmy Carter brokered the Camp David Accords which were signed by Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem VOLUME 28 | ISSUE 05 |

Begin thus ending a “state of war” between Egypt and Israel which had existed since 1948. Israel agreed to withdraw from Sinai, and Egypt promised to establish normal diplomatic relations between the two countries and opened the Suez Canal to Israeli ships (which until then had been banned from the waterway). This glimmer of hope for Israel would fade with the assassination of President Anwar El Sadat on October 6, 1981. In 2003, it was called the “Roadmap for Peace.” It proposed the partitioning of the land of Israel into a TwoState Solution. In a speech on June 24, 2002, U.S. President George W. Bush said that this proposal would provide a plan for lasting peace in the region. Once again it was sold as a “Land for Peace” deal. Israel would be giving up land gained during their previous wars with Egypt and Jordan for the establishment of an independent Palestinian State; and Israel would finally have a secure 18

homeland for the Jews. Sadly, no enduring peace resulted from this accord. Just the constant moving of the proverbial goal post by those who plan to remove Israel a piece at a time. Recognizing the Obvious In 1995, during the President Bill Clinton administration, the U.S. Congress passed a law recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and requiring the president to move the American embassy to the city. Previous U.S. leaders have invoked waivers, permitted under the law, to avoid starting that process; but on Febr uar y 24, 2018, President D o n a l d Tr u m p announced that his administration will officially move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem by May. Trump’s announcement effectively recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and ordered that the embassy be moved. The embassy will first be set up in an existing US facility in West Jerusalem and is planned to open in May, in order to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel declaring its independence. Jerusalem has long been considered a subject of final status negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, as both claim the city as their capital. Several other nations are planning on following the example of the United States by moving their embassies to Jerusalem and thereby recognizing Israel’s right to The Promised Land. For Christians, we should rejoice with Israel in this momentous occasion, and thank God for keeping His promises concerning the Land of Israel. n the March Personal Update Newsletter, we featured a story from a former agnostic young man named Adam. It really touched hearts and the response has been fantastic. His testimony is another of a young man accepting the Lord, then stumbling onto Dr. Missler’s teaching to disciple him in his walk with Christ. Hello Gunnar, I was just looking at Koinonia House to find my next commentary to study and saw a testimony that was sent to you by Adam. I felt compelled to share my story with you, especially since Koinonia House and Chuck Missler have had such a massive impact on my eternity. When I was young, I was not exposed much to YHVH or Yeshua. My mother is a confirmed Catholic, but even at that, our life was so miserable at the time that GOD never came up much. My father was an alcoholic and my mother left him when I was 2 years old. The only memory I have of him is the day she left him. We were at some type

of tractor store that he was working at and I remember him giving both me and my little brother a gift then running to the sink and throwing up. After that, my mother got involved with a very abusive man which lasted for about 6-7 years. As a pre-teen and a teenager, I always had a strong drive to try to do the right thing, protect people from bullies and such. Eventually, I noticed that despite trying to take the high ground on things, I was always miles behind people that would lie, cheat and steal. As I grew up, GOD would come up more and more in conversations, T.V and when speaking to people, especially when I moved to the Bible belt and specifically near Billy Graham’s home base. My attitude as a young man was “if there is a GOD, why is the world like this?”, “why is my life like this?”, “why does everyone doing the wrong thing make all the headway?” During this time frame, my mother had started jumping around to many denominations, Jehovah Witness being the last one. It angered me terribly that they taught that only they would be the chosen 144,000. I did not have chance according to the church unless I became part of this group. I had ...the more I studied, finally become fed up and took, like the more I found that Adam, an atheist approach. I always had a very high regard for evidence “evolution” and main stream science, falsified and truth and as I set out to disprove much of their evidence. GOD and Yeshua, I encountered the exact same thing. The more I studied the more I found that “evolution” and mainstream science, falsified much of their evidence and a great deal of it was outright lies that we are taught at a young age and learn to no longer question. The more I studied, the more I saw a monumental effort put into pulling people away from GOD completely and this is what really sparked my interest, why so much effort put in to disproving something that allegedly does not exist. That was the first time I picked up a Bible in my life, it was my father’s Bible that he was given by the Catholic Church at my baptism. The problem I ran into was that, though I was well versed in science and history, I was completely ignorant to any studies that corroborated the Scriptures. I started researching commentaries and as I would read and that led me to a great many commentaries that 22

bathed the Scripture in an allegorical light, “Well, the Word says this, but this is what it actually means!”, this made things even more difficult for me because now nothing made sense at all. Eventually, I tracked back to a translation that was relatively new from the Institute of Scriptural research and it helped clarify things a great deal. I must admit I spent ALL of my time studying the Old Testament, I tried to exhaust so much energy following the Ten Commandments, which seemed like the right thing to do. I eventually stumbled on to the Apocrypha as well and realized after reading some of the books along with the book of Jubilee’s and Enoch, that there was SO much information that I did not know where to start. I prayed diligently for guidance, for a place to start. A little more back story is that by profession I am a police officer and was on a swing shift, so on my night shift evening off, I would stay up till 3 or 4 am studying and searching. One evening, I found a video that was just over an hour on the book of Genesis that was taught by Chuck Missler. For the first time in my life, I found someone that was so informed and intelligent in teaching the scripture that I was hooked. He referenced cutting edge science, history and current archaeological discoveries. I had never experienced so much specific knowledge in a field and I would sit and watch as Missler would start branching off with more information and stop himself and pull back on task. Romans was the book I immediately searched his name that changed my life, my and found Koinonia House, eternity. When I finished I signed up for a free class. I have my study with Missler taken classes through RZIM for apologetic studies and found the of Romans chapter 8 on November 6, 2017 my class a bit easy, but when I took life was permanently Missler’s class I noticed quickly for the first time, I was the one changed. not digging deep enough in my responses and answers. This is also the means by which I was first really exposed to the New Testament. and the book of Romans.......Romans was the book that changed my life, my eternity. When I finished my study with Missler of Romans chapter 8 on November 6, 2017 my life was permanently changed. I have found it very difficult to describe to people that have not found justification through faith, because it was a much longer journey to that point than I expected. I also never expected justification to make me actually “feel” different, I thought it was a knowledge thing. GOD has since then opened my heart and mind to everything I study, and with all of your help I understand so much more that I cannot put it into words. GOD has truly blessed your ministry. I have also purchased Daniel, Matthew and Ephesians, not to mention that I have Colossians, Cosmic Codes and Corinthians in my cart waiting to be purchased. Also on a side note, when I was first delving into the Old Testament, I became obsessed with going to visit GOD’s land and seeing where Christ walked, prayed his prayer before the crucifixion and just be where he was, but it has annoyed me that I could only find “Tourism” based trips, I have been praying about it quite a bit lately, especially after all the studying I have done with Missler where it is constantly mentioned. After finishing Revelation, during my prayers I asked GOD, what do you want me to study next, Colossians immediately popped into my head. I turned on my computer and went to Koinonia House to select the commentary and was thinking to myself that I would have to purchase the DVD, handbook and the notes section (with Genesis the video’s were online and it saved me some initial money). When the website popped up there was a large banner with B.A.S.E. Tour of Israel on it that is hosted by Ron Matsen and Bob Cornuke. I had told my wife about it and she was in agreement with me that, based off the circumstances, seemed to be GOD’s will, so I literally, within 5 minutes began getting all the paperwork needed for my passport together. The next morning, I went to work and remembered Colossians. I went back to the website and was about to click on the Topical Studies tab and directly below it saw the Joy of teaching God’s 24

Word tab, As a brief detour, I clicked on it and immediately clicked the Chapter 2 tab where Missler was talking about how he got started, and again, Missler’s first trip to Israel was the topic of guidance to Missler starting his ministering. To be honest, I felt foolish when I told my wife about it because if it were me I would have thought that it was all being made up, however she agreed that it is absolutely a confirmatory sign. After my long winded story, I just want to make sure that you know how much this ministry has effected my life, GOD selected me but you were the path that I needed to walk to find my Justification through Yeshua, My faith is now the absolute most important thing to me in my life now and I diligently listen for direction. Its a long journey, but its the only one that matters. I hope to finally meet some of the people that have made such a huge impact on my life in November.
