1 x axtor = 2 machines The Axtor 8012 completes Komptech’s range of products for biomass treatment. In fast-running shredder mode with freeswinging tools, it produces material for composting. In reduced-speed chipper mode with fixed tools and chipping blades, it makes fuel for heating plants.
Power is provided by an underfloor 780 HP engine and is transferred to the drum via a sturdy power band and a manual gearbox. This gives good engine access and a forward-opening feed area. A 3-axle central axle trailer, a semi-trailer or tracks make the Axtor mobile.

Composting: Green waste, yard waste
Wood chips: Logs
Fuel production: Forestry residue, bark, untreated waste wood
Green waste is a valuable input material for composting. Fibrous shredding increases the surface area, for speedy microbial decomposition. To do this, the Axtor uses free-swinging tools with a special slim-line profile and armouring, shredding the material like a hammer mill at high drum speed. Everything landing on the huge feed table is grabbed instantly by the active feed system and pulled in automatically. The Axtor’s voracious appetite means that feeding is usually the limiting factor. The machine itself is capable of up to 400 m³ per hour.
With fixed blade holders and chipping blades, the Axtor is a powerful chipper with throughput up to 300 m³ per hour. Because contraries cannot be ruled out, the fixed tool holders have a patented overload protection system which prevents damage to the drum body, shaft and bearing on contact with a solid contrary. Usually work can be resumed quickly. With its large 1.25 m dia. drum and efficient shredding geometry, the Axtor can handle logs up to a meter in diameter. Length is not an issue, since the tilt hopper leaves the feed table open to the front.
Bulky tangles of branches and treetops present no problem for this combination of vertical and two overhead horizontal feed rollers, the same as used in the Chippo chippers. It’s hardly surprising considering the maximum feed opening is 1.6 m wide (2.1 m including the vertical feed rollers) and 1 m high. With the drum turning at reduced speed, robust shredder blades break the material down into particles, with the size defined by a surrounding screen basket. Whether shredding forestry residue, waste wood or bark, the Axtor shines with high throughput and low specific consumption.

Inside the machine Engine and drive
Built for top performance
nderfloor engine with excellent access U from above and both sides
The Axtor 8012 is powered by an underfloor-mounted Caterpillar C18 diesel engine, with a tough power band and optional gearbox drive. The shredder drum is 1.25 m in diameter and 1.6 m wide. There are 36 tool holders spiralling around the circumference. Since each holder is on an individual, removable floating shaft, tool change is easy. The movable shredder table with counter-cutter is held in place by hydraulic tension. The cutting gap can be adjusted from the outside by an eccentric, for an exact fit with the tooth configuration in use. Overlengths are kept out by the screen basket and friction floor. Material discharge is by a conveyor that also provides a place to stand when doing maintenance work on the shredding area, and a 1.6 meter wide discharge conveyor that reaches up to 4.7 meters high to fill container trucks.

EFFICIENT FLEXIBLE The biomass market is dynamic. To thrive in this market as a fuel supplier or shredding service provider, you need a flexible machine like the Axtor. With the right combination of shredder or chipper mode and the right blades and screening baskets, it can turn a wide variety of input materials into a product of the desired quality with high throughput.
Conversion from shredder to chipper is fast and simple: In three hours or less, two men with a heavy-duty bolt driver can switch the machine from free-swinging shredder tools to fixed holders with precision-cut chipping blades or tough shredder blades. Overload protection for the screen basket, friction floor and fixed tools minimizes damage in case of contraries.

Huge feed area
Active feed
Shredding or chipping
At over 2 m wide and up to 6 m long (7.5 m for the semi-trailer version), the movable feed hopper can accept the bulkiest items from the biggest shovels or grippers, without blockages. It can be opened at the front to take in long tree trunks. Folding side walls make it possible to feed the machine from both sides.
The feeder specs are impressive 1.6 m wide and 1 m high, fed by what is probably the best intake system in this machine class. The combination of horizontal and vertical feed rollers and a wide sectional steel belt ensure active transport into the machine, even with bulky green material.
In shredder mode, there are three freeswinging tools in each tool mount, for 108 tools on the drum. In chipper mode, there is a fixed blade holder in each position that can take chipper or shredder blades. Conversion takes about an hour. The Axtor shreds at 730 rpm and chips at 400 rpm.

Easy maintenance
The fixed holder can turn on its shaft, but is held in position on the drum by a shear bolt. In the event of a large contrary, the shear bolt breaks and the holder swings into the drum body, preventing additional damage in the shredding area.
The operating panel on the machine has a colour display that clearly shows all functions and the operating status. Colour-coded graphics help the user quickly locate the right controls for each function. The optional remote control has all the functions needed to control the machine.
Designers and service technicians worked together on the Axtor right from the start, to give it easy maintenance access few other machines can match. The Axtor is the only machine anywhere to combine an underfloor engine, swingout screen basket, easily accessible shredding chamber and individual mounting of tools on the drum.
