Mobile drum screens

Introduction In modern material flow management, screening (separation by different sizes) continues to be part of one of the major process steps. With Komptech’s many years’ experience in the construction of screen machines, combined with continual development, this key process step is fulfilled perfectly by a Komptech drum screen. Always a focus are innovative technology and solutions which guarantee a maximum in customer benefit.

The right machine for every user The product portfolio includes five ideal machine types tailored to the requirements of the market. The JOKER is the ideal entry-level machine for introduction into screening technology. The PRIMUS is the right solution if performance demands increase. The performance levels of the MAXX and MUSTANG meet the requirements of professionals where high throughput and continuous output are needed. At the top end of the range is the MAGNUM – with a performance only familiar to the stationary sector.

Highlights • Broad product range for any performance requirement • Either standard screen drums with fixed hole size or flexible system with quick-change screen segments • Selection of drive on MAXX, MUSTANG (diesel-hydraulic, diesel-electric or mains operation) • Simple servicing with customer-oriented solutions • Comprehensive options and custom requirements for individual tailoring

3

Application Compost Green compost, bio-compost, sludge compost Komptech drum screens demonstrate their talent for screening when used for composting. Configurable hopper speed and drum rotation speed allow precise material alignment and overfilling of the drum is prevented with load-dependent hopper control. In the drum itself, a screw conveyor ensures optimal utilisation of the screen area. A standard screen drum or a drum with exchangeable screen segments is used for screening with variable requirements.

Wood/biomass Shredded waste wood, woody biomass, Wood chippings, bark Komptech drum screens are also efficient for voluminous material. This is because the feed hopper is tailored to the drum size (plus some considerable reserve). Extended discharge belts allow for high piles, and with a width of up to 1000 mm there are no blockages on the conveyor belt.

Soil/gravel Excavated material, sand, gravel, light-weight building rubble Heavy materials do not present Komptech drum screens with a problem either. Solid contraries are kept back by a hinged hopper pre-screen. A hopper belt controller prevents skewing of the belt, while drums with a side thickness up to 10 mm allow for long service lives. In conjunction with configurable belt speed, high bolts bars in the oversize fraction belt prevent the rolling back of stones.

Waste Shredded bulky, household and residual waste, refuse derived fuels Adequate space between screen drum and side wall also makes drum use with large screen hole sizes smooth. For these hole sizes in particular, outside scrapers are more effective than circular brushes for drum cleaning. For residual waste screening, a special drum with anti-dirt strips is also available. Large side doors and flaps provide simple access for cleaning and servicing. Description and figures include supplementary equipment.

joker

Joker The JOKER screen represents an entry-level product into mobile drum screening technology. Easy manoeuvrability of the single-axle trailer and the compact and sturdy design make the JOKER a convincing solution for horticultural and landscaping, for smaller composting systems and everywhere where mobile screening technology is used. Simple operation and tried and tested solutions create a high degree of operational reliability. The operator becomes instantly familiar with the operation of the JOKER and has a powerful screen despite its compact dimensions.

5

Highlights Compact and manoeuvrable The JOKER is built upon a single, central axle trailer with a length of 7.5 m and is easy to position even in tight spaces. The hand-operated front support allows quick uncoupling; safe assembly and simple adjustment of the screen drum tilt.

Only discharge belts The well-conceived design of the JOKER only requires two conveyor belts - the width of the fine particle belt corresponds to the length of the screen area. It starts underneath the drum and assumes collection and discharge functions. The coarse particle belt is hinged out at right angles to the machine. The upshot of this arrangement results in extremely compact dimensions both in the transportation and in the working position.

Proven solutions The discharge belts are hinged up and down simply and practically with a hand winch. The screen drum is driven via hydraulic motor and the sturdy roller chain represents an operationally reliable solution. A fuel-efficient diesel power unit with motor monitoring delivers the power.

Flexible with screen segments The use of interchangeable screening segments made of highly wear resistant spring steel is particularly beneficial for inter-company use as different mesh sizes can be transported with the screening machine. The segments are available in rectangular and square meshes up to 80 mm in size and are mounted simply on a core drum (available for all Komptech drum screens).

Easy accessibility The screen drum is freely accessible after swinging open the large side door. To exchange, the drive chain is loosened and the drum lifted out of the machine with suitable lifting gear. Description and figures include supplementary equipment.

Primus

Primus For more demanding throughput requirements, the PRIMUS represents the next biggest machine. Designed as a tandem central axle trailer, the PRIMUS not only offers 16 m2 of effective screening area, it also offers a corresponding screen length to complete demanding screen tasks. Solid, loadable components, the manually hinged discharge belts, the hydraulic drum drive via roller chain and a fuel-efficient diesel unit guarantee an excellent price/ performance ratio. Additional options equip individual screen in accordance with specific customer requirements. The PRIMUS is therefore the right solution for smaller and mid-sized composting and treatment plants, as well as for entry into the contracting business.

7

Highlights Hopper interface The two-way, mountable hopper rise allows simple double-sided material feed. Steep side walls in the hopper itself prevent the risk of material bridging. Flow is guaranteed even with wet material. The hopper conveyor belt drive is achieved via a drive roller with a special coating which prevents slippage even with heavy material. Also, a mechanical straight line controller automatically keeps the hopper belt in the required position.

Reliable drum cleaning A freely revolving circular brush, configurable from below, is used to clean the screen drum. The position opposite the screen side presents no risk of contamination by the screen material.

Conveying material The discharge belts can be folded manually from the transport to the working position using a hand winch. In its base configuration, every screen machine has a sturdy cleated V-belt (JOKER is an exception) for the fine particle and, for the oversized particle, a smooth belt with screwed-on, exchangeable cleats that minimise rolling back of cubic fractions (cleated V-belt on request). The belt speed of the discharge belts is continuously adjustable for material alignment.

High piles with belt extension With a belt extension, the usable delivery height of the discharge belts on the PRIMUS increases to almost 3 metres. This convenient working option is also available for all other Komptech drum screens (JOKER is an exception).

Separating off the coarse fraction When working with excavated material, gravel or lightweight building rubble, a hopper pre-screen prevents possible damage caused by solid contraries. The sturdy coarse material grid is hydraulically hingeable via radio remote control and has a chute for safe deflection of contraries alongside the machine (also available for MAXX, MUSTANG, MAGNUM).

MAXX E & MUSTANG E

MAXX E & MUSTANG E Electrically driven variants are available as alternatives for the MAXX and MUSTANG drum screens. On the “E“ variants, electric motors are used in place of hydraulic drives. This saves energy because an electric drive has a markedly higher level of efficiency than a hydraulic system. Power comes directly from the mains or, when required, is produced by an integrated diesel generator. An auxiliary hydraulic system is only used for machine set-up. The “E“ variants of the MAXX and MUSTANG are available with and without generator, whereby the generator version also has an optional mains connection. For operators for whom investment and operating costs are crucial due to cost pressure, the MAXX E and MUSTANG E are options which pay back within a short period of time. In this sector, there is scarcely a more efficient way to utilise the energy deployed.

Highlights Reduced operating costs Compared to the diesel-hydraulic mode of operation, electric mode yields a reduction in energy consumption and results in savings in replacement/consumable parts and servicing costs. Saving potential of the electrical drive (mains mode): • up to 75% lower energy consumption • up to 30% lower consumable parts costs • up to 25% lower operating costs • no servicing of the diesel unit or hydraulics unit Saving potential of the diesel-electrical drive (generator mode): • up to 25% lower energy consumption • up to 15% lower consumable parts costs • up to 5% lower operating costs • no servicing of the hydraulic system

Alternative to stationary machines If power comes from the power socket, no exhaust gasses are produced and work can be performed in enclosed buildings. This gives a cost-effective alternative for stationary projects in which a feed hopper is required. For this operating mode, higher dust loading poses no problem either (no diesel unit, no cooler).

Flexible generator solution A high degree of flexibility opens up the possibility of the "removable motor unit" option. With it, it is possible to run the machine inside where no electrical connection is available. The motor unit is moved out of the machine, removed with a forklift and placed outside in a rack frame, together with housing.

Simple operation Thanks to its fully electronic controller, this drive concept features the highest degree of ease-of-use. The new display mode shows the operating status and all of the functions are clearly visible and easily configurable. An automatic start-up and idling unit simplifies start of operation.

More torque All other components, such as the drum drive using DRUMGRIP have proven so successful on the MAXX and MUSTANG they were not modified for the “E” version. But now the power on the “E“ version comes from an electric motor which is precisely regulated with frequency converters and, in addition, delivers a higher torque to the drum. Magnum

Magnum The MAGNUM is the largest mobile drum screen in the KOMPTECH product range. Following a technical upgrade, the machine now boasts a functional design and impressive technical features. Irrespective of whether the machine is used for waste screening, composting or for the treatment of biomass, the MAGNUM always delivers performances in the range of stationary drum screen systems, but with the benefits of a mobile machine. Here today, there tomorrow but always ready for use immediately and hence extremely cost-effective.

96,5 kW

Hopper capacity:

up to 7,0 m3

up to 250 m3/h

13

Highlights Fully mobile with semi-trailer The transportation of a MAGNUM presents no problem despite impressive machine dimensions. The 2-axle semi-trailer has a solid frame which allows firm balance with hydraulic front and rear supports.

A lot in The hopper size is aligned to the high screen performance and enables convenient adaptability with a volume of up to 7 m続. The free fill length of 4.4 metres allows large wheel loader scoops to be used without problem. When used for soil and rubble, a hydraulically foldable hopper pre-screen can be mounted as an option.

A lot out 47 m2 of effective screen area demands a powerful discharge system. A wide collection belt and the 1000 mm wide discharge belts are equal to these requirements. High piles are possible with standard or long discharge belts; even up to a height of 3.5 m with a belt extension.

Drum drive: 2 x "DRUMGRIP" The drum drive has been revamped - now the smooth, low-wear DRUMGRIP drive system is used on both inlet and outlet sides. In conjunction with tandem supporting wheels, this drive concept withstands the highest of loading on a continual basis.

3-fractions on request The MAGNUM is also available as a 3-fraction screen machine. The fine particle and medium particle belts can be mounted on the right or left. The design allows retrospective changing of the discharge sides, and hence also the fill side.

Quality assurance Unintentional emptying of the hopper often results in a worsening of screen results. This can be effectively prevented with the newly available hopper sensor controller that uses ultrasound to monitor the hopper and automatically stops, and starts again on filling, the hopper conveyor belt, the drum and the discharge belts (also available for MAXX, MUSTANG).
