20 percent increase in turnover at Komptech Styrian environmental technology specialist increases turnover to €85m. Market leadership in Europe will be consolidated with new products. Frohnleiten (February 20th 2008) – Komptech, the specialists in the treatment of solid waste and biomass, was able to post significant revenue increases for 2007. The leap to €85m in 2007 represents an increase of over 20 percent over the previous year. In conjunction with excellent profitability, 2007 represents the most successful year in the history of the company. Substantiating the numbers for 2007, Komptech Managing Director Josef Heissenberger comments, “In addition to Germany, the world’s largest environmental technology market, the greatest turnover growth in 2007 was achieved in Western Europe, primarily in Benelux, Great Britain, France and Spain”. Heissenberger adds, “Although only in its first year, the new sales operation in the US is already a massive success and has exceeded ambitious revenue targets by some considerable margin – despite the unfavourable exchange rate and the poor economic situation in the US.“ Outside Europe, appreciable turnovers have also been achieved in South-East Asia, Australia and Iran. The company is also identifying ever-growing potential in Eastern Europe. “This is where we are expecting our strongest growth over the next few years, especially as Eastern European countries are lagging behind in the environmental sector“, hopes Josef Imp, since beginning of the year Director of Komptech, responsible for sales. The many new developments are to contribute to the continued growth of the company. 2007 saw the company-owned “Komptech Research Centre” constructed in St. Michael bei Leoben for this very purpose. This is where pioneering innovations for the treatment of waste and biomass are to be developed. The company has identified significant potential, especially in the treatment of woody biomass for energy recovery. “Within the EU, these material streams will have to at least quadruple by 2020 to meet the high targets of the union in the field of renewable energy sources“, comments Heissenberger. The Komptech group is headquartered in Frohnleiten (Styria) and now employs more than 460 people at nine sites in six countries.
