THIS IS KARI TRAA
In 2002, Kari Traa had just won an Olympic gold medal in Salt Lake City, cementing her position as a world-class freestyle skier. But she couldn’t find world-class sportswear made for women. Sportswear simply wasn’t made bearing the female body in mind. What was available, just didn’t fit quite right. And it didn’t exude the confidence and freedom Kari felt when skiing.
So what’s a girl to do? Kari’s answer was to take the matter into her own hands.
She started customizing her own gear, adding color and uniqueness to make it match her playful and creative personality. She knitted her own beanies, bedazzled her goggles with Swarovski crystals and adjusted jackets so they would fit her better. The designs quickly became popular among her friends and fellow skiers, so she decided to turn the hobby into a business.
The Kari Traa brand was born.
Shortly thereafter, inspired by a traditional Norwegian tapestry hung in her childhood home, Kari designed her first baselayer pattern. The rest, as they say, is history. And it’s not only our history, but the history of active, playful, natural, strong, rebellious and confident women everywhere.
What started out as one woman’s passion for creating a good-looking, great-fitting female alternative in sportswear, has evolved into the fastest growing female sportswear brand in Europe.
All these years later, our aim remains the same: To challenge the established and inspire girls to live their lives in full color.
And of course –
“I started Kari Traa for one simple reason: To challenge the established”
it’s all still made for girls, by girls.
