Pursuing Master’s in European Countries

(UKDW) held a sharing session on Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters on March 10, 2023. This sharing session aimed to provide information for students and alumni of UKDW about the opportunity to study in E u r o p e a n c o u n t r i e s w i t h E r a s m u s scholarships. The session was conducted on hybrid mode at Rev. Harun Seminar Room for onsite participants and via zoom for online participants. Invited as the speaker in this sharing session was Destriani Nugroho, Programme Manager Education and Culture, Delegation of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam Agata Filiana, S Kom , M Sc , a lecturer in the Informatics Department of UKDW was also attending this session to share her experience as an Erasmus awardee.

Opening this session, the Vice-Rector for Human Resource Capacity Building and Partnerships Rev. Handi Hadiwitanto, Ph.D. said that studying in European countries is very interesting, not only because of the quality of education but also the pleasant atmosphere, human relations, and the opportunity to have enjoyable discussions there. He also hoped that this session will be useful for UKDW's students as well as alumni who wish to pursue higher education and to be involved in wider activities at international level. "I believe that we have the ability and we need to be well informed about various opportunities," he concluded his opening remarks.

This sharing session was led by Dr. phil. Lucia Dwi Krisnawati, the Head of the Office of Partnerships and Public Relations. Starting the sharing session, Destriani introduced Erasmus+ and the type of Erasmus programs. Erasmus+ is the European Union (EU) program for education, training, youth and sport Erasmus+ funds student, academic mobility, and university cooperation projects. Type of Erasmus Programs include Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM), International Credit Mobility (ICM), Erasmus Mundus Design Measures, Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE), and Jean Monnet Actions.

She then explained more about EMJM. "EMJM is organized by a consortium of at least three universities from three different countries in Europe and abroad," she said. The scholarship will cover tuition fee, living allowance, travel allowance, and settlement allowance She also shared about the requirement and steps to apply for this program. "Awardee will get many benefits by joining this program, such as studying in at least two different universities, graduate with dual degree or joint degree, learning new languages, developing interpersonal skills, and traveling while studying," Destriani added.

M e a n w h i l e , A g a t a s h a r e d h e r experience joining EMJM According to Agata, the fields of study offered by Erasmus Mundus are unique and very specific. For example, she took Data Mining & Knowledge Management (EM-DMKM) During the program, she got the chance to study at several universities during the program with Université Lumière Lyon 2, France as her home university. In the first year she studied at École Polytechnique de l'Université de Nantes, Nantes, France, in the third semester at Universitatea Politehnica din București, Bucharest, Romania, and in the fourth semester (internship) at Globethics and Point Software AG, Geneva and Zürich, Switzerland.

She shared that she was asked three reference letters when applying for the scholarship. Consequently for students, she emphasized the importance of having good connections with lecturers.

During the sharing session, Destriani also briefly shared about International Credit Mobility (ICM) and Research Horizon Europe She also invited participants to follow @ehef.id and @erasmusplus.id to find more information about European Higher Education and Erasmus+ programs.

Through this session, UKDW hoped that students will be more confident and motivated to embark on international journey. (DRR)
