Jen Basham

Recreation Manager

I love my job because I have the opportunity to improve the lives of Keller residents and visitors through recreation and leisure activities.

I enjoy designing and building a physical structure and being able to look back at completion knowing I had a part in making it happen.

I love my job because we impact people’s lives. People come to enjoy recreation at our parks, facilities, and events and it’s my job to make sure that experience is top notch!

We are called the FUN department and I think that is very true. Our parks and Special Events provide the community with fun and entertainment and we are very proud that we can be a part of that.

I love planning events and being able to provide a quality experience for the community.

I love working with Parks and Recreation because I get to truly see the positive impact that this department makes on the community.

Bear Creek Park Renovation Updates

“Bear Creek is really the heart of Keller’s award-winning parks system,” Mayor Mark Mathews said. “This project has been in the works for some time, and I can’t wait for our residents and visitors to have the opportunity to enjoy it once it receives some long-overdue attention.” There will be more room for private events and sport practices, and more parking for community festivals — a slew of new and improved amenities are headed to one of Keller’s most popular features. Construction on more than $2.1 million in improvements to Bear Creek Park will begin Nov. 11. Plans for the project include: • Replace the aged cinderblock pavilion with a new, larger (60'x30') structure • Add a second (30'x26') pavilion by the playground • Convert the existing asphalt basketball court into four pickleball courts • Add two concrete basketball courts • Replace four baseball backstops and install a fifth • Add more than 120 new parking spaces • Replace existing and add new water fountains (including dog-height fountains) • Resurface the existing parking lots and West Bear Creek Road • Recondition the trail road from Bear Creek Park Road to the pedestrian bridge • Light the northeast parking lot, pavilions and basketball courts • Expand irrigation and landscaping The improvements are being funded through the portion of sales tax revenue dedicated to parks and recreation capital projects. In partnership with city staff, the contractor has committed to working through the project as strategically as possible to ensure that the park remains open throughout construction without any significant impact on park users and large city events. With that schedule in mind, weather permitting, work is expected to finish up in June 2016.
