Friends Rainbow Sathi Zindabad !

Earth, sky, plants-trees, lakes-ponds-rivers, birds, mountains- they all are ours. Whole earth belongs to us. We the children only make the earth a place to live. Our attachment with earth starts reflecting in our first painting-drawing where as kids we draw mountains, birds, boats, sun, moon etc. Our first creative outburst shows our heartfelt connect with nature.We deeply love our nature, our earth, our environment. But our love is in crisis. Earth is getting warmer, facing threats of global warming and climate change. Many children have written heart-touching articles on how heat is playing havoc in life of children especially street children, children of poor families. It is a vicious circle— growing temperature, drought, water crisis, increasing sea level, cyclone, cloud burst, melting of glaciers, floods, fatal diseases…so we are moving towards bigger disasters.

Nature is showing anger and there is solid reason for this. Due to our greed to capture natural resources we are disturbing balance of earth.

Water-forest-land is being snatched from local inhabitants and given to big companies, which increases tension and destroying nature. In the mad run of so called development our governments and our policy makers are giving approval to projects where forests are being cut, mining is done, big dams are being build, dangerous nuclear energy is pushed and so on. These projects not only lead to major displacement but also cause destruction of environment at massive level.Crisis of environment is now part of our daily life. First we have to be awakened then make our society also aware. We have to change our lifestyle. We as children decides to boycott things which dangerous to environment then we can really change the scene. We should oppose all the policies, projects which are destroying nature, we will write, sing, and dance to expose this onslaught. We should work as agents of change. We are against plastic as it is spoiling our beloved earth. We will save water, save energy and so on. Our message is Kannada: clear to world—we are ready to ರೇನೊಬ್ saveೕಸಾಥೀ our earth Telugu:

How did you get in here, to be called as “Tamilnadu Weatherman”

Pradeep John is a weather blogger who disseminated real-time information by tracking weather patterns before and during the 2015 Chennai floods to reach out to people. His predictions became a bit prophetic after most of his warnings and predictions turned out to be accurate during the Chennai floods. He runs his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/tamilnaduweatherman/) Tamilnadu Weatherman for the past many years, claims to have never seen so much traffic on his page before. He says, “People keep asking about the weather: whether it will rain today or will there will be heavy rains or not.”

It was my passion that took me here. I just love rains than anything else. When I was seven-yearsold in 1994, there was a cyclone in Chennai and a complete power-outage and I still remember the howling sound of the cyclone passing. From that day on, I have been collecting satellite images, started blogging for KeaWeather.net and now I have my own blog.

Is it your fulltime job?

I am not doing this full time, so my updates will be mostly during non-office hours. In the days of heavy rains, I break this self-imposed rule and I update weather status every three to four hours. I have my FB page where I post interesting weather events, which is the fastest way to share weather reports.

Five of our young friends (Kokila, Dhivya, Bhavani, Vasanthi and Amutha) from Tamilnadu State ARUN Rainbow Homes (Chennai) had an opportunity to interview Pradeep John at his residence (accompanied by Parameswari and Sarala Snehsathis).

How do you analyze the weather and where do you get the input for your forecast?

We also heard stories of your enjoyment from Delhi, Kolkatta, Banglore, Hyderabad, Pune homes. Many children who watched film enjoyed Poorna’s success and admired her and adored Rahul as Pradeep Kumar.

Indeed, Rahul Bose made this very inspirational film to all the children with great love. He directed the story of self discovery of Poorna the brave girl, and I am sure you all are on the same path.

You all should know that in real life Rahul Bose adopted many needy children to build their future. He also keep meeting children who stood up courageously crossing struggles and discrimination in their lives. 3 years ago, he visited our Rainbow Homes in Hyderbad and Delhi. Our Rainbow girl Mariya casted in the film as Priya, sister of Poorna. Rahul Bose cared her with great affection and he also knew much about our homes through her. April 8th 2017 was a big exciting day for Dil Se children. All the 350 children from three homesKhushi Rainbow Home, Okhla; Kilkari Rainbow Home, Kashmere Gate and Ummeed Aman Ghar of Mehrauli Delhi were invited to screening of Poorna Movie.

On this fun filled day, the children groups were joined by teachers, coordinators, house mothers, Managers and some staff members from Head Offic. The movie touched children’s hearts. We hope this one serves a life-changing event for many children and will increase

Our children, had a wonderful learning experience watching the movie at the same time they were happy to see Rainbow home girls in the big screen. On April 8th children went to see the film in PVR Orion and Inox lido Mall along with Raju and other home team members. All our children gained the knowledge that no success comes without difficulty and they also pointed out certain issues like Child marriage, deprivation of education to girl child, corruption, social discrimination etc.

For this we have hired private buses where children enjoy all the more as they got to tour through city with their love ones (brothers and sisters) Cards prepared and signed by children for Rahul Bose and team.

On 1 st april 2017, In Pune we 45 children and snehsathi went to poorna movie. Children were so excited to watch the film. When we went to movie children were fully emotionally got involved. At the end when Poorna completed her dream children expressed their full happiness with applause in theatre. When they came back we discussed their feeling in the balsabha. Children were so inspired and wanting to do adventures activities. We decided to have adventures activities in the summer.

Experience of Cordination in 5 Cities

It was excitement one to coordinate the movie show at the last moment in 5 cities along with Raju and each state teams. I feel everyone enjoyed and along with movie children had good time in mall and games. They had lots of fun in the beginning of their summer holidays. Many Children first time enjoyed the experience of lift, escalator, games, watching film on PVR Big screen etc. Some children first time travelled in train in Hyderabad. The movie was inspiring to all of our children and motivated

by Poorna efforts.

Proud of our children who acted in this movie. On the whole it was wonderful experience. I thank Laxmi Kanwar Chundawat who coordinate and booked the tickets.

Almost 586 children of Kolkata saw Poorna movie in the renowned PVR cinema hall of the city. I coordinated the show timing and no. of tickets availability at the State level.

Children enjoyed a lot and were very happy to watch the film and also compared their home to the the home shown on the movie. They felt our homes are far better than that home. Four shows were booked for our children both Saturday and Sunday

Coordination in Hyderabad

in far flung Kukatpalli which is 25 plus km from all homes. First day it was little mess, children missd some part of film. Rest days were good. Children watched the movie very keenly. They observed and interpreted it thoroughly regarding the issues like functioning of government institutions namely, school, hospitals and hostels and nuances of tribal families, parents and their attitude towards children and their education.

Children enjoyed the ride to other corner of the city in metro and also fascinated by the facilities in malls like escalator, lift and play facilities which they explored and enjoyed .

Kannada:

Coordination of 924 children in Hyderabad for Poorna movie was very exhilarating experience. Though it was a herculean task to match the number allotted and to inform homes the last minutes confirmations from distributors. Children watched the movie spread over 4 days after the first day of release on 31st March.

It was released in 4 multiplex theatres of Hyderabad. We zeroed upon 2 theatres namely Inox Bnajarahills and PVR Punjagutta which are comparatively nearer to homes.

This film changed my life. It is very inspirational movie. I am Priya in the film, cousin of Poorna.

In the film Priya is ready to give everything for her cousin. Poorna wins in the film and Priya die in the end. But in the real life my mother Ms. Saroja died this year. She committed suicide. I felt how tragedy moves from film to reality. At this juncture I miss my mother terribly because though she was begging on the street but she always dreamt good future for me. She supported me like anything, it’s a biggest loss for me.

As my mother struggled to make my future bright , so now its my duty to fulfill my dream. I have younger sister in the home, so I have to look after her also.

I want to share with you that Rahul Bose is one of the wonderful person on the earth. He loves making children happy. I told him that I want to become actor, he promised me that if I study well then he will guide me. After completing my degree I will join acting school. My whole journey from begging to rainbow homes and then to film, is more interesting than many Bollywood movies. I was born in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh. My mother was in begging and ragpicking. She use to change the cities so frequent that we both sisters moved across. From Warangal to Bengaluru, to Tirupati to Trivendram to Chennai to Hyderabad we three were moving and begging. In between my mother tried to get my admission in Banglore Holy Spirit school, where she use to beg. I got admission but fate a some other plan. Finally I came to RainBow homes in 2014. Then came this film. Clearing the audition was tough but very interesting job. I enjoyed acting and during that period only I recognized that I am good actor. Rahul Sir and full team member where amazing, very helpful. I was like I was in a dreamland. Travelling in flights was very nice experience. Most amazing was my birthday celebration at Hyderabad Stadium. Rahul Sir, full team, my mother and Kannada: Rainbow homes team everyone was there. I feel sad about it. For example they destroy trees to build flyovers and expand the roads, even I am a cause for harming the environment one way or the other. Water Is Life It is sad to see people don’t understand importance of water.

Water resources are reducing on earth and rain is too not enough as it expected. Earth is warning us in her style but we are ignoring. We don’t understand importance of water and waste it. In some part of the India drought is very common and people are deprived of water. River and water sources are polluted. With my eyes, I have seen a child being criticaly ill with contaminated water.That troubled me, we should change this situation.

Generally the notion has created that because of tribal forest is loosing green cover, as they take dry leaves and firewood. We don’t talk about big projects which destroy forest and rivers. We have to talk and mobilise people against these projects.

Who are the big enemies of environment ?

Greed and greed for blind development.

We have to see that what we are buying , whether it is dangerous for environment.

Plastic is dangerous of our earth, it is spoiling our nature. You know plastic never wither away. We should not use plastic bags, plastic cups etc. we should change our habbits also, wasting water, electricity Kannada: and paper is not done. Everyone should try to ರೇನೊಬ್ೕಸಾಥೀ save environment.

am not able to give you my permanent address because we 3 sisters along with our father are staying in a small hut on the pavement. For us staying in this hut is not comfortable. Because when we thought about roads in India the first thing comes to our mind is dirt, smoke of the vehicle, domestic animals excreta etc. I hope you didn’t like the condition, I also don’t like to stay there.

Sometimes I feel like to wake up in birds’ song, but the honking cars wakes me up. Suddenly I saw when I was going out from the hut somebody from the nearby flat dumped one bucket full of domestic waste just beside our hut. But I have to

adjust as my father doesn’t have the capacity to buy a flat. Because of this dirt, pollution my father become ill. He has breathing problem, he coughs & sometimes blood comes out from his mouth.One day I scared and thought maybe I will lose my father also. Doctor uncle advice my father to stay away from sun and wear mask on the mouth to avoid dirt. That’s not possible Once our teacher told us if we

plant trees then it absorbs carbon-di-oxide and in return its gives oxygen. I am keen to plant the trees but how to plant, around me everything is concrete. You know I even don’t have a place to play. When we play on the streets vehicles honk on us. For drinking water we use street side tap, but doctor uncle told us not drink that water, sometimes from this water disease like cholera, typhoid can spread.

I don’t like to be ill. So my request to you, please plant at least one tree then we can stay away from many diseases. My morning can be start with hearing bird’s song. Please throw litter and domestic waste in a particular place that I can see roads are clean and beautiful.

In order to ensure smooth transition process and to prepare Young Adults emotionally & psychologically Series of workshops and orientations have been conducted with the older girls. Udaan Workshops: Nationally, two major workshops called ‘Udaan’- taking flight, workshops were organised in Northern region and Southern region. A total of 248 Young Friends participated in these two workshops The main objective of these workshops was to discuss on the natural process of transition from childhood to adulthood, importance of the transition from rainbow homes to outside society, issues related to adolescence, and the need for having life goals & moving towards achieving those goals. After the regional level workshops, state level Udaan workshops have been organised in each of the state to orient all the older girls These workshops have helped to address the fears & doubts that the Young Friends have on transition. These Helped them to get the reassurance that they would be cared, guided & supported until they settle in their lives.

to a common platform.  Awareness about education among the illiterates living in backward areas of Rural & Urban India.  De-addicting the youth  Setting their perspectives right about the Love and Marriage.  Personality development and career guidance.  Creating social awareness.  Eradicating superstitions.  Spreading awareness about the casteless society and spreading communal harmony.

Maidain activity: with the help of Aman vedika’s Social Mobilizer’s, we went to the Gudi Malkapur slum area near Mehdippatnam in Hyderabad. Putting up Aman Yuva and Aman vedika banners , we 30 soliders of Aman Yuva started singing songs. Then explained about the Rainbow Homes and the philosophy of Aman Yuva. We appealed them to join vulnerable children into our Rainbow Homes and also exhorted the youth to join the force of Aman Yuva.

As a result 12 youth (7 boys and 5girls) of the basti joined us. They proposed to do Shramdaan or physical labour in cleaning the basti. We went second time after a week. We 30 along with 12 basti friends from 7 am onwards started sweeping, cleaning the dirt. Then all the basti people joined us making it a brigade of 70 -80 cleaning force. It included removing garbage, flushing out the slush and dirt that was obstructing the free flow of drainage for a long time.

The Whole basti became spic and span by 2pm.

At the end, we sat with the basti people and interacted . They were happy and shared their emotion.

They offered us cold drinks and appreciated our sincerity. From that basti,7 vulnerable male children joined in Bible House Sneha ghar and one girl joined Musheerabad RainBow home.

Second initiatve: There is a basti near the Bible House home called Bansi lalpet graveyard .The inhabitants were living in the most deplorable condition on and around the graves for about 25 years.

Kannada:it, We couldn’t believe that Humans can live Seeing ರೇನೊಬ್ ೕಸಾಥೀ in such conditions. We came to know that 2 child marriages took place recently. We the friends of Telugu: Aman Yuva conducted a review after the visit.

Origin of Aman Yuva: Before going to Udaan workshop of the south (meant for the young Adults), Ambika madam started discussion on how youth should engage with social transformation and work for larger goals. Then I had a discussion with many friends in Rainbow Homes and Sneh Ghar and we thought all the solidarity group of youth to give back to society should be formed, Subsequently, Anuradha, Ambika madam and rest of the team gave new perspective to engage the whole young energy in RainbowHomes and SnehGhars and will expand to youth of all slums of Urban and Rural India.

e all have true friends. We always try to be with our friend in sad or happy moods. Like everyone I also have a true friend Me and my true friend spent nice time together but somehow I feel she is not happy and somebody is hurting her all the time. She can’t express her feelings but I understood this.

I am talking about plants which is the true friend of the entire earth.

We all are fully depended on the trees. In primitive age, mother earth nurtured us and human being took birth under the resort of the tree.

Ancient people of the earth understood the true value of the plants.

Those people who were the astringent and bringer of our civilisation experienced the endless beauty of the tree. Tree is serving us by providing leaf, stem, fruits and flower without expecting anything in return. We used plants to make medicine, to prepare our shelter and to feed when we are hungry. But it seems we made this true friend unhappy because it didn’t get any help from us. I have some questions on behalf of my friend. Without any hesitation my friend has been giving all the necessary things to us, then why can’t we help?

Why people are greedy on the wealth of the nature? We read from our childhood that Human beings are the most intelligent creature in the world, then why can’t they understand that without tree we can’t live on the earth. One of my teacher once said that ‘Trees are the part of our life in such a way that they take harmful substance from the environment and in return provides the means of our life’. But we are harming the tree day by day, can’t we stop that? Why can’t we love the trees not torture? This is our responsibility to conserve them or else with them we also will extinct.

n our rainbow home, we feel that earth is our dearest planet and we show selfless love towards our mother earth. As an initiative to save the earth, we started gardening club in our home. This club is small a small step to show our love towards our mother earth. This club was started in 2014. In this club, presently, we are totally 12 members and our In charge is Laxmi akka.

‘We grow many types of saplings like curry leaves, Rose plant, marigold, money plant etc. We water plants put manure and look after them carefully.

There is a beautiful nature we need to go through good and bad, we should stand by practice what is right, even if we don’t plant more trees it is important not to curt down the existing trees.

plants growing. I feel very happy while our children enjoy the flowers of our plants. My favorite plants are Davanam, curry leaf etc.I feel this garden as my favorite thing.

Shivaiah Uncle:- I like the garden. I daily water the plants and I feel the fresh air from the plants.

Sometimes, I keep my water bottles in between the plants so that water becomes very cool.

Laxmi Akka:- According to me they are not just plants but my life . I love our gardening club preparing manure and feel very happy when our children Keep the flowers in their hair and eat tis fruits.

My Experience : I love our garden. I feel very happy when our trees grow up and I enjoy its flowers. When I joined gardening club, I didn’t know how to even plant a sapling which I learnt subsequently. I planted my first croton and when it sprouted I felt ocean full of happiness.
