Bay Area Street Dance from Boogaloo to Turfing
Thursday, February 2, at 7pm, in Person: $15
Meet the OG pioneers of Bay Area street dance, who defined urban youth culture before hip-hop had a name, as well as the next generation of dancers adding their own stylistic innovations. Hosted by Rightnowish’s Pendarvis Harshaw, the night includes dance performances, music, a roundtable discussion and a dance cypher. Join us for a night of undersung Bay Area hip-hop history as told through dance!
Dating with Dhaya: KQED Dating Game & Singles Night Tuesday, February 14, at 7pm, in Person: $20 Finding love in the Bay Area can be an uphill battle! Comedian Dhaya Lakshminarayanan is back to play matchmaker for one local KQED fan while subjecting contestants to hilarious rounds of revealing questions and some gentle roasting as they vie for a date. After the show, stick around for a singles mingle, and make a match of your own!
Fire and Wine: How Wildfire Affects Your Cabernet Thursday, February 16, at 7pm, in Person: $15 How is fire changing wine and wine production in Northern California? Join KQED climate reporter Danielle Venton and Check, Please! Bay Area host and wine expert Leslie Sbrocco for a science and tasting event to compare wines from smoke-tainted and unaffected grapes. Then, North Bay Jobs with Justice will share how the industry’s agricultural laborers are protecting themselves, and Planet Labs will zoom out for a look at satellite imagery of smoke and fire affecting the wine-producing region. Stick around for (untainted) wine and cheese afterwards, to bring down the heat!
Endless Winter: Inside the Donner Party Disaster
Thursday, February 23, at 7pm, in Person: $15 Join us for an atmospheric night of immersive storytelling that takes audiences deep inside the Donner Party saga step by step and casts this disaster in a new light. This event will unearth overlooked realities about this notorious part of California’s history, addressing the legends, uncovering the compelling personal histories and exploring the true nature — rooted in power, conquest and bloodshed — of our state’s foundational “pioneer” mythology.
YR Media Eco-Party Hour
Saturday, February 25, at 7pm, in Person: $18 for General Admission / $10 for Students
KQED Live and the YR Media pod squad present an environmentally friendly, all-natural, compostable, net-zero sustainable party hour hosted by Nyge Turner and Dominique French of the Adult ISH podcast. Experience organic conversation with hip-hop artist and climate activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, BPA-free musical stylings by Bryan C. Simmons and science-backed solutions shared by locally sourced storytellers and organizations. Put your upcycled, permaculture shoes on and get ready to dance for a brighter climate future.
