LEARNING THE LANGUAGE OF THE FUTURE
Before you visit a foreign country, it is advisable to learn some useful phrases in the language of that country so that you can navigate yourself easily, get the know the culture, make friends and be successful. In the same way, the metaverse is a foreign country to most of us. The metaverse is how we interact with technology and some of its virtual worlds that include artificial intelligence and augmented reality which combines the digital and physical worlds. Just as in a foreign country where we find many things that are unfamiliar, so the metaverse is unfamiliar as well, and we discover that we first need to learn its language. Its full of new words, some don’t even make sense until we learn their meaning: Ethereum, minting, gas, blockchains, wormhole, protocols, Solana, flow, mining, avalanche, Tezos, terraforming, speedster, megacosism, ERC-721, …. and many more. NFTs live in the metaverse and if you want to sell your designs then you need to find “your road map”, learn the language and get started.
WHAT ARE NFTS?
They are non-fungible tokens which means they are unique and can’t be replaced with something else. For example, a bitcoin is fungible, which means you can trade one bitcoin for another bitcoin, and you’ll have the same value. Each NFTs has a digital signature which makes it imposssible to be interchnagable. The NFTs signature and history is protected on a blockchain. Your own study of the metaverse will bring you deeper into metaverse-world of possibilities where you can also brand and sell your own designs.
Apart from Digital art pieces that have made millions, as well as headlines which have attracted huge global hype, there is also the branding and selling of fashion which is being explored in the real world and as NFTs. Most fashion Brands create NFTs and blockchain technology to attract, verify and connect with consumers from all over the world. NFTs are not only virtual but ”NFT wearables” as well. Brands also offer tracing solutions which means that customers can trace the origins of raw materials used to create their purchases, search for a specific item within a particular store, and view trading activities in the used market. The metaverse is a place for these designers to experiment, find their identities as creators, and to build a community that may turn into consumers. A shortcut compared with traditional physical brand development. Working in the metaverse, as a digital fashion designer, you need not only to master technical skills, but you need to combine that with your research in the zeitgeist so that you can bring your vision to life in the metaverse. It’s the new branding!
A FINAL QUESTION?
Do you have the curiosity to embrace the future of NFTs and the metaverse? And do you feel “at home” in both the virtual world and the real world? If your answer is “Yes” – then welcome to the future of fashion designing, branding, and selling your work in the metaverse.
WHAT IS 3-D FASHION DESIGN?
The traditional 2-D fashion design is an emotional way of creating, where fabrics and textures can be touched and explored. Most traditional fashion designers fear that they will lose this creativity when they have to design in 3-D technology where all the tactical properties become data in the computer. But this is not necessarily so. The traditional design process, by its nature, is a trial-anderror approach. The pattern makers are required to repeat the cutting, spreading and pressing steps until the final patterns are aligned with the originally intended designs. When working in flat format, the pattern making process involves countless steps relating to modifications, corrections and editing, which takes a lot of time. While working in 3D format, all processes are automated. That is to say, all amendments are made on computer and all data can be saved. Perhaps the most important is the shift in mindset that is needed, as the designer adapts to becoming a concept artist with 3-D sampling knowledge, who can work closely with 3-D pattern makers and sample developers to create 3-D clothing.
