SACRED HEART DAY CELEBRATIONS

FROM THE Deputy PRINCIPAL Feast of the Sacred Heart 2013 Our celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart on Thursday has been a wonderful way to conclude Term 2. There was a real sense of belonging to a special community, engendered particularly by the students, as they participated in the celebration. The day began with students from Kindergarten to Year 12, Sisters of the Sacred Heart, staff, parents and Board members gathering for a Eucharist in the MTC celebrated by Father Phillip Watkins. The festive atmosphere was demonstrated by both students and staff dressing in red and white for the occasion. We were privileged to have at our Mass the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Heart and to express our appreciation to them for inspiring us in the spirit of the Sacred Heart. Following the Mass, we held an Assembly for our Years 3-12, during which Sister Philomene Tiernan RSCJ presented the Madeleine Sophie Awards. A feature of the Assembly was the Notre Coeur House Competition which highlighted the students’ creativity and their gifts and talents. The Assembly culminated with the Sacred Heart Cheer where we were able to witness the KRB student community in action! Following the Assembly, the students enjoyed the Mission Fete held over lunch which saw each year group creatively prepare a stall selling a variety of services and goods to raise funds for the work of the Society of the Sacred Heart in India. There was a wonderful atmosphere as Junior and Senior school students participated enthusiastically in support of this social justice venture. Another very special occasion during the week was the Procession of the Lanterns celebrated by our boarding community

PROCESSION OF THE LANTERNS

on the eve of Sacred Heart Day. This is traditionally a very special occasion for our boarders, particularly for those in Year 12 who lead the Procession. We were also privileged during the week to celebrate cultural diversity at KRB through the Cultural Diversity Assembly on Wednesday. The Assembly provided wonderful insight into the different cultures which make up the KRB community. During the the week we were also able to experience firsthand the diversity of cultures through the variety of food on offer at our International Food Stalls.
