Guidelines The book before you, whose title is I Am Starting Kindergarten, is intended for children from three to four years of age. Its content refers to their natural and social surroundings, things that children perceive as familiar and close to them. The topics covered are the basic areas of the child’s development, such as getting to know one’s own personality, the development of the knowledge of others and building a relationship with them, as well as acquiring knowledge about the surroundings. When using the work sheets, pedagogues and parents should keep in mind the limited graphomotor representation capabilities in children of this age, but also a wide range of possibilities when it comes to other ways of symbolic, iconic and practical representations. Problem solving should be preceded or accompanied by gaining experience and knowledge in different ways, such as through practical experience and exploration, as well as through handling of different objects and materials. It is a prerequisite for abstract understanding and symbolic representation.
