Say hello to Cassidy Williams, a young, goal-driven woman whose aim is to exude a touch of kindness on and off of the game she loves golf. This is but the beginning of a jet-setting journey, demanding the attention of those who are intentional about being inspired by a genuine kind of genuine. The kind that stems from awe-inspiring authenticity. Purpose with a passion. Passion with a purpose. It starts here. Witness the impact.

S

tellenbosch sweetheart, Cassidy Williams is more than just a golfer reaching for the unlimited blue sky. At age 21, this young lady is determined to go further and cultivate great growth in the lives of those around her. Between Jamestown (SA) and the United States, Cassidy grew up in diverse environments, enriching her life with vast experiences from a young age.

could become more than just a hobby. And so it played out. School’s Out After matriculating at Rhenish Girls’ High School in 2015, Cassidy had taken a gap year which turned into primitive golf years. It became more obvious that this is the direction her life would swing towards. Her dad always encouraged her to pursue a fulltime golf career, whereas her mom was set on seeing her daughter stepping up towards further education.

Currently in her final year at Swingfit Performance Academy, Williams is set on making an exciting transition from amateur to pro. In the process, she had swung between the educational and practical side of golf in pursuit of obtaining her qualification and apprenticeship as she completes her studies.

Providentially, both worlds met when Williams enrolled at the Swingfit Performance Academy in 2016. The 3-year course consists of a Diploma in Club Management, Sport Science, Business Finance and other various factors pertaining the golfing world. A thousand practical hours, coach shadowing and a job in the golf industry are the main boxes to be ticked towards achieving her full qualification. Another period of 1000 hours is required, after which Cassidy will take hold of her apprenticeship. This is the time leading up to the season in which she will sign off her amateur status to turn pro.

Growing Up Birthed into the ministry of their theological parents, dad Clive and mom Velda, Cassidy and her two sisters, Chelsea and Cameron were raised in the pastoral environment. Having moved to the United States of America at the tender age of 4, Cassidy had already started gaining the fulfilment of missionary work and naturally lead by example when her sisters came along.

In September this year, Cassidy departed to the UAE for a 7-month stay - during which she will be working in the golf industry as part of her studies. She will return home for a brief period in November to complete another practical and to write her final year exams. Once that is finalised, she will head back to Dubai to continue her work there until March 2019.

Upon their return to South Africa, dad Clive being a golf fanatic - started paying more attention to his favourite sport. Naturally, Cassidy became super inspired by her dad as she watched him play in their backyard. The more they practiced swinging the clubs, daddy and daughter both realised that this

more striking moments as she took her seat at the main table and won a prize for the longest drive that evening. She wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone, especially Mr. James Wade, who played a part in making this unexpected day unforgettably special.

Presidential Swing Earlier this year, the witty Cassidy unexpectedly became golf-buddies with our South African President, the congenial Cyril Ramaphosa. “Did that just happen?” she asked herself after a great afternoon of companionship, having had an absolute ball on the golf course. Initially, Williams found herself in the background, being laid-back until she was appointed by one of the organisers to welcome Mister President to the Atlantic Beach Estate. Having been tasked to remain at his side for the remainder of the day, Cassidy witnessed the President’s loving presence, humbling nature and insightful intelligence. “He is very interested in people, always looking to lend a helping hand,” Cassidy says with a warm smile. She also mentioned how they only managed to play 9 holes (for the duration of 3 hours) due to Mister Ramaphosa greeting every single person he came across that day - including the workers and residents of the estate.

Foundation Ambassador Miss Williams is excited about her long-term contribution to the communities of Cape Town and beyond. Her charitable character lead to her being appointed as the first Ambassador of the AJ Foundation - an organisation determined to uplift communities and uproot several stigmas all around Cape Town. The AJ Foundation is pleased to partner with Cassidy, as they both share the same passion and vision. Cassidy defines this partnership as something new and fresh. She is bold in taking a step further towards the next level of her abilities. “This is important, it shows that I am not stagnating in my game. It’s all about what I do with what I have, making a difference where needed and using my success to give back. Although I may not be able to do bigger things just yet, it is already a major privilege for me to do play my part at such an early stage of my career.”

Between success and significance, Cassidy places more emphasis on the latter. “It’s not about what I gain from being an Ambassador, but rather what I can do to truly give back and help in every way possible. That is very significant to me and my future.” During a stellar golf day organised by the AJ Foundation in June this year, it was only fitting for Williams to make her first official appearance as Ambassador and do what she does best. She commends the founders of the Foundation for organising such a triumphant event during a significantly short preparation period.

says. She also adds that “you never feel empty after being able to invest into the life of somebody else.” You can follow Cassidy’s journey on her social media pages as well as that of the AJ Foundation. Her genuineness, generosity and colourful smile can only bring joy to whomever she surrounds herself with. The world’s dullness and darkness is in dire need of a personality such as this young lady, who promotes positivity like the champion she is. Cassidy with Macassar Kids at the AJ Foundation Blanket & Food Drive

Giving Back Truly spreading the love, showing willingness to help and not putting up a show are some of the aspects Cassidy value significantly. She says, “people must encounter more than just the things we give them. We ought to pay attention to people by being present during the time spent with them.”

Cassidy Williams is always ready to go for goal. I can confidently proclaim that there is so much more to expect from this assertive young lady - knowing that she won’t just play it safe, but instead actively ascend higher and reach more than just her wildest dreams. ⓚ

In Kréhon Issue 3 you can read a little more about the AJ Foundation’s Blanket Drive which Cassidy also attended as she helped sharing and giving of the various elements to the families and households of Macassar near Somerset-West. Cassidy would like to encourage and inspire everyone to engage with a project like this and to get involved with the intention of truly making a difference. “Your small contribution - whatever it may be - adds great value,” she

yummy chicken tortillas STEPS:

• Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. • In a large pan over medium-high heat, heat the 3 tablespoons of oil and add the onions and garlic. Stir and cook for a minute or 2. Add 1 teaspoon of the chilli powder, 1 teaspoon of the paprika and 1 teaspoon of the cumin. Stir and cook the mixture for a minute or 2 in order to release the flavours. Add the peppers and cook for another 3 minutes.

• In the same skillet, add the chicken along with the remaining chilli powder, paprika, cumin, cajun spice and some salt and pepper and cook until the chicken is deep golden brown and done in the centre - 5 to 10 minutes. Add 1 cup of water and stir to make a sauce. Allow the sauce to boil until reduced by half, about 5 minutes. Stir in the chopped coriander and set aside. IT’S A WRAP:

• To assemble, scatter cheddar cheese in the middle of the tortilla, scoop a tablespoon of the chicken and pepper mixture on top of the cheddar, add another sprinkle of cheese and blanket-fold tortilla.

• Place the tortillas on a sheet pan and put in oven and bake for about 5 minutes, just to soften cheese inside and until tortilla reaches a beautiful shade of brown.

• Remove tortillas out of the oven and allow the them to sit a minute before serving up to ensure it holds together. Serve with a zesty salad, creamy avocado, cream cheese and a fresh lemon wedge. ⓚ KRÉHON

The flavour from the vegetables and spice will infuse the hake and the steam will ensure that the fish is thoroughly cooked. After 20 minutes remove the hake from the pan and keep separate. Remove the plate and turn of the stove. Take the pan from the stove and strain the vegetables keeping a bowl underneath to retain the broth (infused water).

Pack the vegetables around the plate in the pan and add the onion, garlic, herbs and fish spice to the pan and let it cook. STEAMED HAKE: Massage the hake fillets with the mixed herbs. y love for fashion started with none other than Barbie and my mother dressing me in the most sophisticated garments as a little girl. Think of a 6 year old going to a birthday party wearing cream high waist pleated wide leg pants with a floral satin blouse and patent leather shoes. Yes, that was me and naturally a love for fashion took root.

@oh_hey_demi_jade

WHO AM I? I remember being asked by my Grade 7 teacher: “What would you like to be when you grow up?” I answered: “I want to be a fashion designer and a dancer” She laughed and said that when I was old enough I would change my mind. Fast forward 12 years later and I am currently the designer and owner of my own women’s wear clothing line, Theophilia Collection. I am also a professional Flamenco dancer with a Cape Town based company, Tierra Flamenco. So it’s safe to say I’ve always known what I was called to.

KRÉHON

!

I graduated with a diploma in Fashion from Design Academy of Fashion in 2014. I went on to work for Superbalist.com as a Production Assistant being exposed to all the behind the scenes workings of shooting catalogue. At the end of 2017 I took the leap of faith to start the business.

The Brand Theophilia Collection is a combination of ready-towear and bespoke women’s wear birthed out of a deep passion to create beautiful garments that speak to the femininity and strength of its wearer. Our love for clothing women in fine pieces is what drives the brand to offer garments of exceptional quality, practice a slow-fashion approach that is kind to the environment and conducts itself in an honourable manner with each individual throughout the process. It is an opportunity to support local businesses and in return the joy of seeing an individual, group or even a generation empowered and transformed. We design capsule collections centred on a theme or scripture and hope that with every garment sold, the message, encouragement and truth that is shared with the garment is carried through to the beautiful woman wearing it. It is our goal to empower, encourage and affirm the feminine heart in all its wonder and complexities.

Our motto: “God is within her, she will not fall.” - Psalm 46:5 is what drives me and the brand to display bold faith, transparency and authenticity in all we do. I am currently working on bespoke items for clients. I have grown to enjoy this side of the business a bit more because it involves connecting with people and building lasting relationships. This is the heart of Theophilia, to encounter people in an authentic way and leave them with more than just a beautiful

P1

How would you describe The Train in 3 sentences?

The Train serves to instruct one about the power dynamics revolving around time and the influence, effects and contributions that South Africa’s violent history had on our psyche and bodies. The production explores complex and myriad issues of different racial characters as experienced in the so-called postapartheid South Africa. The production is intended to be set in an expressive but ambiguous setting of a train station only existing in the mind.

P2

P3

How did you select the names of your characters?

To be completely honest, I didn’t really decide on the names. The names came organically as I envisioned each scene every time I wrote.

What motivated you to write this play/story?

(Chuckles) Interesting question Well, what motivated me to write this play was a series of personal events that took place in my life. I went through a difficult but rather rewarding stage in my life, with the rewarding part being my writing. I just decided to write about my everyday experiences, whether it was difficult or not. I guess, by just being honest in what I wrote - every time I got the opportunity to write came to be known as The Train. This was a very peculiar but such a fulfilling moment in my writing for the very first time. !4 6

The production explores complex and myriad issues of different racial characters as experienced in the socalled post-apartheid South Africa ISSUE 2 / 2018

FUN FACT The play was never really intended for performance or to be read by anyone else. It was just a way for me to express myself through a tough time in my life. But as always, you can never really control the outcome of anything in life – therefore, I just let it be. Also, I never even thought about performing in it myself, but the director thought it would be interesting if we casted myself as one of the characters. And it was sort of weird to be in a play I wrote myself.

P4

P6

How long did it take you to write this story?

I would say due to it being a series of events that happened in my life, I took it day by day without rushing anything whatsoever. So, I’d say it took me round about 7 months for it to be fully completed.

P5

I think the most significant moral of the story would probably be the relevance of segregation and cultural differences in our country to this very day, and instead of opposing one another, we ought to be united together as one. Because that is who and what we are without the inclination of focussing solely on the colour of our skin. ⓚ

What was the most difficult thing about creating this drama?

THE TRAIN POSTER

It is actually more an Absurd Theatre piece, rather than a direct drama. The very first play I ever read was absurd, so I’ve always been intrigued by and drawn to absurd theatre. Therefore, due to having studied so many absurd plays before, my greatest challenge was trying to stay as authentic as possible. It becomes difficult when you have to think out of the box in order to create something fresh, new and different and there are already so many factors that might possibly relate to other written works.

KRÉHON

What is the most significant moral of The Train?

opportunity to rebuild a strong foundation that will hold up when your world is shaken. Invest in yourself - in your mental and physical health, feed your spirit with positivity, surround yourself with love and never stop growing.

No person is going to come into your life and change how you see yourself, if you don’t believe that you are worthy of being loved.

We often get so caught up in running the rat race of life that we forget that there are things we advise others on and forget to take our own advice. Looking at my life as it is, I thought what is it that I need to remind myself of regularly? 1. It’s okay not to know

3. Love starts with the person you see in the mirror every morning

Sometimes you don’t have to know everything. There is no crime in not knowing what you’re going to do when life has thrown you a curve ball. I constantly have to remind myself to take the time to breathe, think, delay making a decision while reeling emotionally.

There are a lot of people who are going through life in despair because they don’t like themselves. No person is going to come into your life and change how you see yourself, if you don’t believe that you are worthy of being loved. You’ve got to come to the party, for yourself. You’ve got to be the number one fan for yourself. Love yourself so much that you don’t feel weird having an expert conversation with yourself. Before you ask people for advice, refer to yourself and think about what is best for you. People that love themselves do not hurt those around them intentionally. They try to live a life of light and spread happiness wherever they go. Be the light you want to see and when you cannot find the light - find peace in the darkness and understand what brought you to that point so you can find a way through.

2. You don’t always have to be fine Often life happens, things go wrong and we get dealt with lemons. They say you can choose to make lemonade or bring out the vodka. Lovely thought isn’t it? What about the times where you don’t even know which would help you be at ease with the situation? What about the times when you don’t want to get out of bed because then you’re going to have to pretend to be fine? There is no cardinal rule that says you must be fine, you don’t always have to fake it to make it. At some point, even the bravado fades and then what is left? Always take the

4. Don’t let people tell you who are and what to be

6. Take care of yourself

Anyone can have an opinion about what you should be doing with your life. Society is structured in such a way that there is always someone who is in a position of authority and power - who will not be afraid to tell you how you should be living your life. Life is hard enough to live, without trying to live someone else’s “truth”. What is your truth? Do you know who you are? If not, do you know who you want to be? Yes? What are you doing to help yourself grow into that person?

I know I’ve already advised you to love yourself but that does not always translate to taking care of yourself. You know that favourite pair of jeans or sneakers that everyone thinks you should throw away because it’s no longer presentable? Don’t become like that item that you loved so much but abused until the item barely resembled its former glory. Know when to rest. Know when something is not growing you in any way and walk away. You’ve got nothing to prove. Know when something is not worth the fight.

5. Own your journey

7. Be kind to yourself

When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you think of? What is it you spend your time meditating on? Is it important? Are you alright with the road you’re on? I know you can see other people’s journeys on social media and they seem to be flourishing. Don’t be fooled by people posting their happy moments on social media. They are human too and sometimes they struggle the same way you do. You might see happiness galore on your timeline but remember, life has its cycles. When you’re experiencing a low, interrogate how you got there and find a way to come out of it. You might need your friends and family to help you along… don’t be afraid to ask for help. It does not make you weak, it makes you human. When you can, try to be the person extending the helping hand. When you experience a high, enjoy it because you’ve earned it. Don’t ruin it by second guessing who is coming to steal your happiness.

You won’t always like how you handle a situation or the space you’re in. Don’t beat yourself up too much about it. Always have a kind word for yourself and hopefully, you will have kind words for others. You might forget what makes you a good person sometimes and when that happens, I hope you can look around you and those who surround you will remind you why you’re a phenomenal human being. You owe it to yourself to be good to yourself. You go through a lot and you won’t always be in your best form. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t strive for it...just don’t beat yourself up when you make mistakes.

Besides, God doesn’t need a name to remind Him that He prevails, anyway. The hotheaded, stubborn Jacob Zuma is no longer president - that should be a big enough reminder. Isn’t it? Who can forget the moment we were graced with our new 65 year old president, Cyril Ramaphosa? His wonderful humility and kindness towards the people of South Africa is truly something to behold. Then there was the British royal wedding which has nothing to do with us (SA). And the so called “scandalous” match between Liverpool and Real Madrid. Which also has absolutely nothing to do with our price of eggs. Guess I just wanted to say pool again.

Ah yes, we had a president named Jacob Zuma. I’m surprised he doesn’t have a limp problem (brief story: In the Old Testament God wrestled with Jacob and struck him by the hip leaving it out of joint. And then changed his name to Israel which means may God prevail). Well, I guess if that happens to Mr. Zuma he might just start baptising people in His fireproof pool. I almost said waterproof pool, lol. I suppose it’s just as unbelievable hey. I know John was the Baptist but I just wanted the self-satisfaction of pin-pointing the ridiculous pool.

THERE IS GLORY IN

SINGLENESS &+D

Denise Padayachee

I

am in my late thirties and single. I am a lawyer and the CEO of Wells Training and Missions NPC. I refuse to live small because I believe that God has set eternity in our hearts, and I am therefore passionate about people in every season of their life being fully alive and walking in their callings. Last year I released a book called Navigating Singleness: a compilation of authentic and inspiring stories (the ebook can be purchased here www.wellstraining.co/ebooks/ ) from older singles who are navigating this season with grace and wisdom, and from people who got married later in life and have a remarkable testimony to share. I believe that there is glory in singleness but sometimes the walk does not “feel” glorious and in those moments there are some things I choose live by regarding singleness, and I would like to share some of them with you…

THERE IS GLORY IN

S I N GL E N E SS 1. “Better to be happily single than unhappily married,” I heard those words somewhere a few years ago and they stick with me. There is so much truth in them. 2. A single person is way more than their marital status, you may be single but you are so many other things besides! Singleness is not a waste of time, or shameful or inferior to being married – Jesus was single and that is liberating for any single who has been listening to the lies of society and feeling boxed in by their expectations. Jesus comes to lead you into a wonderful free space where you get to live loved and free from man’s expectations. 3. Every season of your life not only brings Him glory but is meant to be glorious for you. Singleness is the time for adventure. Go on some crazy missions, start that hobby you’ve been itching to try your hand at, travel and get the perspective it brings, start that business you’ve been dreaming of or write that book that’s burning in you. 4. To be single is not be on “pause” but to be able to live just as full a life as in every other season of your life. There is a call on your life and contrary to popular belief you don’t have to wait until you’re married to walk in it. God and you make a great team! When God adds your husband and wife to the mix, well then, it can just go from glory to glory. But at least begin to walk in the glory now.

EVEN MARRIAGE MUST ALIGN WITH OUR CENTRE BEING JESUS

5. When we live obsessed with getting married we live off-centre. Our lives were meant to be centred on Christ alone. He is our “true north”. When He is our centre then we live loved, affirmed and fuelled. Our desires, passions and energy align with all He has for us and our great joy is to bring Him Glory. When anything else becomes our centre, our focus or obsession, everything goes out of alignment and this dysfunctional theft of our attention begins to steal from the glory that is ours. Even marriage must align with our centre being Jesus. 6. Sexual purity is an act of war. Purity is not old-fashioned, it is an everlasting Kingdom value. To choose to live pure- as a virgin, or restored virgin, after the death of your spouse, after divorce or by keeping your marriage undefiled from adultery- is to engage in a war of actively advancing the Kingdom of heaven. When promiscuity is normalised and celebrated, perversity applauded, and sexual abuse rife- as heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven, it is time to bring back purity! ⓚ

t is safe to say within our single days, that one is free to come & go as you please, which is perceived as the ultimate freedom. This is however true, yet life is only experienced from a singular view compared to an unknown and/or greater horizon unexplored.

Once you have found that something perhaps in someone, which is the glue between you and them. A spontaneous period of enquiring cross pollination takes place to get to know the person of interest. Within this relational dilemma he/she will show strengths in the most attractive fashion, which causes the stroke of excitement to get to know each other even more.

The exciting atmospheres and places you find yourself, consist of people you instinctively have an interest to meet and know better. Your internal radar scans, seeking something or someone of interest to invest yourself in. There is a pure desire to connect to give and pour yourself completely over into something or someone according to the original design of human nature.

With time and trust, vulnerability comes to the surface, which could be a turning point of evolvement or devolvement in the relationship irrespective the category of its nature(friendship/courtship, etc). here comes a time when you need to look in the mirror and see yourself for who you are. A meanie. At that moment a decision has to be made. Do you seek to humble yourself and heal or do you stand your ground… you are the mommy after all.

The journey of parenting is not an easy one. Daily we battle to set a good example, to set healthy boundaries, to allow them room to grow and to treat them well. I sometimes look at my kids and wonder whether they realise how amazing I think they are. I am absolutely sure that the answer is no. As much as I love and adore them, this unfortunately does not always translate in my actions. I have purposed, however, to try to show them and say it as often as I can.

"Mommy, you are mean!'' She's right. I am. I have a lot going on. My plate is full. My patience is thin. I don't have a high tolerance for shouting, fighting and disobedience today. Today, I am a grown up and I am facing grown up issues.

The power of life and death is in the tongue. And so, as such, I use my words for good. I shake off the `bad mommy’ guilt and I show up for them, every time. And through the slip ups and meltdowns, I know that God has my back and my daughter knows that I have hers.

She's so little, she has giant eyes. Piercing eyes, demanding that I do better. Try harder. She makes me step up. She makes me stoop down. She demands an I'm sorry. She stretches me. My insides. She makes me better.

So in a nutshell, here’s my advice… keep calm, admit it when you mess up, say sorry, be available, and make sure that every day they know that you think they are awesome in ways you cannot even pronounce... Being a mom is a road paved with agonies and elation, but if I am going to be a mom, I don’t want to be good. I want to be a great mom. Enjoy your mom-hood and be kind. Be kind to the little hearts in your care and be kind to yourself. ⓚ

Like a spotlight into my stressed out soul. She gets what she deserves. I humble myself. I set my crap aside. This is my baby. She has a future and with my own two hands and my bad attitude, and thoughtless words, I shape her. Dictate who she will become, how she will treat people, what type of woman she will be. And by the grace of God, I stop, I bend, I whisper an apology. I beg for a kiss, and I receive redemption. In a heartbeat I am forgiven and loved. She makes me better. She makes me bigger. Wash, rinse, repeat.

M = Man: an adult male human being C = Crush: a brief but intense infatuation for someone unattainable M = Monday: the day between Sunday and Tuesday

I wonder what the next most popular hashtag (other than #WCW - Woman Crush Wednesday) would sound like and what it might mean, if the definition is slightly unrealistic. Lol. Let’s wait and see.

ife has taken us all on this journey, it is what we make of it and who we get to do Life with. As Life goes on we have to make the most of it or it will just take from us. I see many people sulking and walking with their heads and hearts so down on the floor, that you wonder what will turn them around, what they need, what change will need to take place within them. I have come to know that Living My Best Life means...I am a SURVIVOR!

lives in you (Romans 8:11). If we think about the same power that raised Christ, that power is already activated in our minds - which means we begin to actively walk in that same power. For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s POWER (1 Corinthians 4:20). Can we say that we are living from this place of power? I have encountered many people that said, if only they can have this Living My Best Life daily, they would feel more free. Today I tell you that this is how you can live and this is how I am living. What does this mean to us, living this life? We need to come to a place where we are living from a place of peace and rest. We need to know who we are and where we are going. Having the right mind and heart. 1 Peter 5:8 “Be alert and of sober mind…”

Today, I want you to know that there is indeed hope. When we really search deep within ourselves, we can find truly what we have been searching for all our lives. We can find the missing piece or should I say missing peace. God has revealed to me that we don’t have to live our lives as if we are defeated, but instead live a life of prosperity, freedom, grace and love. We can have it all. When we have a relationship with God he shares many miraculous insights with you. I would like to share a few.

Here are a few points that God has pointed out on my journey... I believe that this will impact you. 1) You are no longer Bound Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Let us not be convinced in our minds that we are still bound. When we think of being free, how do we feel? This is how we should feel daily, every hour of every day! >

If we believe that we are children of God, we have access to what He has to offer. He is a powerful God and when we become children of God, we also have access to that power. The same POWER that raised Christ from the dead

4) All Dark will come to Light For many years I had felt betrayed, due to the many unjust people around me and the unjust things that has taken place. I can tell you that the Lord has always been with you in these times. You have been hurt, abused, wondering why... why me? But there will come a time and if it hasn't yet, the time will come when the Dark will come to Light! Amen. God comes through for you - He always does, if you allow him to. He will level those mountains, strip those people, and He will elevate you. Darkness cannot reign where there is light, it has to flee. The light is brighter. Nothing can be hidden from God. He is above everything. Luke 8:17 NLT “For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.”

You are going to get instruction and God wants you to listen closely to what He is about to tell you.

2) The only thing stopping You is Yourself Take the limits off from yourself. Those times when you think or feel inadequate (like I sued to) and feeling discouraged. Thinking all bad things about yourself. Being held captive by what is in your mind. Why not train your mind to think good, positive things about yourself? Placing yourself above and not below. Becoming a leader of the positive and not a follower of the negative, knowing that you have the potential to do all that you can think. Not believing the lie of the enemy.

5) Learn to Love Yourself I'm not saying take yourself out on a date... This is the most precious thing and yet the most difficult thing for most people to do. I see it all around - if only people learn to really love themselves, the world would be a better place. Loving yourself (unselfishly), knowing that you have been created perfectly. God doesn't see all the so-called flaws. He sees you being the most beautiful person He created you to be. Why should you worry when someone doesn't love you? You need to Love yourself, look in the mirror and love what you see, what you are now and have become. You are beautiful!

3) Learn to Let Go We need to learn to let go. Our problem is we always want to be in control. Control over ourselves, our families, our kids, our lives, our todays, our tomorrows etc. But we are not in control. The only person in control is God. Think to yourself and imagine how free you can feel and be. For instance, imagine being a bird or imagine yourself on top of a mountain, lifting up your hands. That sounds like freedom. Just to relax and let go.

6) The Past is in the Past 2 Peter 1:9 “...forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.” So many of us suffer with this in our life - we need to let go of this. There’s a reason it is called the past - it’s in the past and has to stay there. Who has heard the saying “the past catches up to you?” Well, I say only if you allow it to. We live in a world where people love to live in your past. They tell you how you use to be, they judge you upon your previous state of life and they even judge you on how you are now. You need to know that the past cannot harm you only if you allow it to.

9) Be Happy Nehemiah 8:10 “...for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Power Scripture - 2 Peter 1:3 “His divine power has given us everything we need…” We are already equipped.” Be Happy! Be Happy! Be Happy! The joy of the Lord is your strength! At one stage of my life, I had to remind myself to Be Happy. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that we need to live in the peace and rest of the Father. And Be Happy! 10) Learn to Live Tell yourself; I want to live and go out into this fallen world and learn to Live amongst all this chaos. We all deserve to live. To truly Live...Good and Fruitful Lives. Learn to Live. Living your best life is just moments away. I dare you to Live Your Best Life today. ⓚ

7) No Open Doors, No Room for Error Make sure that you have covered all your basis. You are going to get instruction and God wants you to listen closely to what He is about to tell you. Search deep within your heart. He is about to take you on a journey like no other. All those doors we are still keeping open, let us close them. So that we have no open doors. Leaving no room for error.

#PowerScripture

8) Put God First Simple and easily said...Put God first. It will be the best thing that you could ever do. He puts you first every day. He smiles down when He sees His son and daughter and says WOW! Some people believe in a higher power, a higher calling. People go to great lengths to find a spiritual place, a higher power but there is only one higher power and His Name is Jesus, The Almighty God. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The one who was and is to come. The beginning and the end. The Great I Am. He is your Breath of Life!

HIS EYE IS AN Dear Friend, “Your eye is my encompassing compass” – this sentence catches my eye, in fact it catches my heart. As I brood on this, it starts to speak to me all the more. I ask God, “What is it that You want to say about this Lord?” I hear, “Pack your bags, get ready to go. I will reroute you. I will re-direct your steps to where I want them to be, not where you thought it would go. Look into My compass”, says the Lord. I ask,“How do I look into Your compass Lord?” “When you look into My eye”, He answers. To look into His eye, you need to move pretty up close, would you not say? Pretty VERY close, intimately close. When my eyes connect with His I see what He sees. It takes only a split of a second to have a breakthrough moment of greater understanding, yet why does it take us so very long before our eyes connect with His? Where are our eyes looking to? Are they diverting left or right, looking to others, ourselves or even backwards to our past mistakes? Are we looking to God for answers or are we blaming others or even the devil for finding ourselves in a state of confusion? Wondering why doors are closing and wondering why we can’t seem to move forward?

This last phrase has been used since WW2. It means a design has failed and a new one is needed. A drawing board is an architect’s or draughtsman’s table, used for the preparation of designs or blueprints. A blueprint is a pattern, showing how something is supposed to look like and work. sheep. You can read about this in 1 Samuel 17:34-37. This kind of sacrifice through which a shepherd would risk his life for his sheep, brings about peace. Friend, Jesus Christ can be seen throughout the Bible. The Old Testament reveals him in the lives of those who were anointed with God’s Holy Spirit as we are today - because of what Jesus did for us on the Cross of Calvary.

We will look at the 23rd chapter of the Psalms of David, which begins with “the Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (be in need). Often a passage like this can be quoted easily because it was taught to you at a young age. David is saying that the Lord is his shepherd, therefore he sees himself as a sheep (metaphorically). Sheep are followers of their shepherd. This statement tells us that David understood God’s nature and he understood (recognised) God’s glory.

I invite you to join me in reading David’s account of how he felt towards his sheep. I ask that God would open your eyes to see Christ shining through David and (onto) us, Christ’s sheep. 1 Samuel 17:34-37 “and David said unto Saul...” “Go and the Lord be with thee”

David shows us, that when he began to understand God’s unimaginable qualities, he was in complete peace. As he writes in Psalm 23:1 “...I shall not want” (be in need).

Whatever may be burdensome in your life today, know that it is the Lord’s glory, majesty, sovereignty, power and His unimaginable qualities that surpass our own understanding. We can therefore trust in Him just as David’s sheep trusted in him. And when you find yourself in total peace, what a perfect time to thank the Lord for being shepherd. ⓚ

Any person that know a lot about sheep can tell you that, when a sheep is at complete peace, it lies down and chews its cud (food). David was a shepherd and could therefore relate well to the trustworthiness his sheep showed towards him. David would risk his own life for the safety and well-being of his

HEARING GOD! & Marius Visagie

Pay attention to the 3 voices that speaks to you daily

1.) The Secular Voice: It is not necessarily anti-God, but will tend to look for loopholes around the Word of God to fulfil their carnal desires. The secular will always contradict the Nature of God, it’s about knowing the difference between God’s acts (what He has done) and God’s ways (how we are expected to live). The secular is more subtle, it says how much I can look like the world and still be of God and thus going into serious compromise. You get the fulfilment of a lukewarm lifestyle, being of two minds / double-minded, which is not accepted by God at all. 2.) The satanic Voice: The satanic is always opposes God’s Word it automatically leads to sin. It specialises in the various areas that lures you into sin, acts of transgressions where you wilfully sin - knowing its wrong and then there are iniquities that are mainly about the past transgressions of your bloodline, exercising rights over your life to harass and frustrate you in your quest if holiness.

KRÉHON

3.) The Spirit of God: The Holy Spirit aligns itself with both God’s WORD and His NATURE and it is that still, soft inner voice speaking in many ways that you know is of God. As a reborn child of God, that voice convicts you of sin and righteousness and the consequences of both ways and uses the Word of God to confirm its teachings. The Spirit of God does not lead by might nor by power, but by direction through a sound mind! So Hearing the Voice of God is a lifestyle! Jesus says “My sheep hear my voice”...it speaks of relationship. Therefore, the question is; am I His sheep? “Do I belong to Him?” is the question only Spiritual rebirth can fully answer. The action is therefore not that of HEARING God, but of DO I RECOGNISE HIS VOICE, and live it. Samuel heard the voice but did not recognise it and therefore could not act on it. The Spirit of God will always lead you to relationship with the Father, for it is about relationship and not religion!

Here are 3 keys to hearing Gods voice:

you do!!! God’s direction is conditional, you need to follow Him to the next place. “The steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord when he delights in His way” - Proverbs 37:23 and Proverbs 3:6 “if you acknowledge Him in all your ways He will direct your paths”. His Word is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path, as He orders the steps of the righteous.

1.) SILENCE and STILLNESS Silence your soul and listen. Psalm 62:1 “for God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation.” SILENCE is the puttingaway of outer distraction but STILLNESS is the quieting of the soul! So can you hear the voice of the Spirit amidst the noise of this world. Psalm 46:10 “ be still and know that I am God”. Sensitivity is about your reaction time to His voice - He is talking to you right now!

Once you hear the Voice of God it: 1 - does away with: LACK-REGRET-CALAMITY-CHAOS-and WASTED TIME

2.) THE WORD OF GOD. The HELPER, the Holy spirit will teach you John 14:26. Being exercised through time helps you recognise His voice which is in tune with His word. Get the Word of God in you, the Word will commit to you. Jesus will remind you of the things He said (the word) and the Spirit will reveal the Word, who and what is Jesus is to you.

2 - It saves you from; USING UNNECESSARY RESOURCES-GOING DOWN WRONG PATHS - and MAKING UNGODLY CONNECTIONS. Stay in tune with the Word and the Spirit of God, serving Him in Spirit and in Truth...and therefore my dear friend; stay and be BLESSED! ⓚ

3.) OBEDIENCE. Many people know God’s Word but ignores it. God will speak no more if you disobey, until

It's so unusual it's frightening
You see right through the mess inside me
And you call me out to pull me in
You tell me I can start again
And I don't need to keep on hiding

How real, how wide
How rich, how high is Your heart
I cannot find the reasons why
 You give me so much

any young professionals have wild dreams about how they will become instantly successful when they enter the work place. In most cases, the ink on the obtained qualification has barely dried on the certificate it is written. However, the pride in achieving something after all the hard work is fresh on your mind and fuels your spirit to take on the corporate world. For some, there is no qualification, just the determination to improve your circumstances. This could be the story of two individuals, entering the workplace for the very first time with one simple goal – to become successful in whatever field you have chosen to apply your trade. It is easy to dream of success but it is another to make it happen. The question that most professionals ask themselves, whether young or old, is how do you do it?

of Business Support Centre. So how does one go from being a runner to becoming an inspirational and accomplished leader? We got the amazing opportunity to catch up with Dumi, and we learnt why he thinks that success is not accidental but a consequence of doing the right thing, for the right reasons and at the right time. As children growing up, we have aspirations of what we will become as adults and dream outside of our reality. Dumi was no different. He had aspirations of becoming a hotshot lawyer but reality forced him to start where he was. The reality for Dumi was that he wanted to further his studies but could not afford to due to financial constraints. What does a man with ambition do when he finds himself in a difficult situation? In this instance, the man got a job. His first job was being a runner for Capitec Bank where he worked from 7:30am to 4:30pm. Dumi realised that he loved working with people and although his title was a runner for Capitec, he did his job to the best of his ability.

Eighteen years ago, Dumisani Ncukana was faced with a dilemma. He had finished his high school career and could not afford to further his education. He got a job as a runner for Capitec Bank after graduating at high school and worked his way up to being Head

Plan to Succeed

The work was gruelling but that didn’t stop Dumi from pursuing his studies part time. After his day ended at 4:30pm, he would rush to school where he would attend lectures from 5pm until 10pm in the evening. The long days didn’t deter Dumi, soon he became a service consultant at Capitec Bank and it was not long before he was promoted to Branch Manager. The hard work didn’t stop for Dumi and his efforts were not in vain, he was soon promoted to Regional Manager and later on promoted to Business Manager of Operations. A few years later, he became Head of Operations at Capitec Head Office in Stellenbosch. After eighteen months in the role, he moved to the Capitec Bank’s Bellville Head Office to steer the ship for the Business Support Services Division. Dumi attributes his diverse portfolio within the Bank to his quest to find a ‘sweet spot’ within the business and to develop his problem solving skills. When asked what contributed to the success he enjoys in his career today, his answer is simple and very straightforward. As a young professional, you need to find yourself a sponsor or a mentor early on in the game in order to avoid becoming just another number on payroll. Dumi believes that finding the right mentor will help one to be able to carve out a fulfilling career path. He stresses the importance of investing in your self-

He also stresses that it is important to selfreflect in order to add value wherever you go development. If you do not invest in yourself, it will be hard for someone else to invest their time and energy in your development. Dumi was fortunate to have found Gerrie Fourie, CEO of Capitec Bank, to mentor him throughout his career. One of the advantages that comes from mentorship, which Dumi identifies as being crucial to his career progression, is the amount of knowledge that he has gained through his interactions with Gerrie. A mentor’s role is to guide, inspire and motivate. It’s important to plan your career moves. Dumi puts 3-5 year plans in place and whenever he’s experiencing a slump, he revisits those plans to remind himself of what the end goal is. Some individuals might not be able to plan in this fashion because the vision is not quite clear yet and that is perfectly alright. The important thing is to start planning, be it for three months or a year. Cultivate the habit of planning your career moves so that the objective is clear. Your mentor will play a huge role in helping you in this regard.

HIS WORK SPEAKS FOR ITSELF, YET HE DOES NOT BOAST

Sometimes, one can plan to the letter but things don’t always go according to plan. Dumi acknowledges that corporate South Africa still has a long way to go. Diversity within the workplace is one of the biggest challenges we face as a nation. He attributes some of the diversity issues to employee and educational background. Often people from conservative backgrounds are not used to probing, as this is not how they were raised. Dumi’s advice to professionals who come from such backgrounds? Probe, seek clarity and always be prepared. Never be afraid to admit that you do not know, just know that the responsibility to find out rests on your shoulders. Individuals from privileged backgrounds (whatever that privilege is) more often have the confidence to probe and seek clarity. Dumi’s advice is to always bring positive energy into the room and to be constructive in your engagement with others. What is the one thing that Dumi recommends, regardless of your background? He says, be introspective at the end of each day. Be prepared to ask yourself whether the role you’re playing is the right one and whether you can do things differently to get a better outcome. He also stresses that it is important to self-reflect in order to add value wherever you go. After eighteen years, as head of a business division, Dumi is still a student at heart who is determined to add value wherever he goes. He continues to invest in his selfdevelopment, build his brand with a helping hand from his mentor and seeks to understand the problem he wants to solve. He’s come a long way since being a runner within Capitec Bank but remains humble about his achievements. His work speaks for itself yet he is not boastful. There is power in taking the hand that life has dealt you and making the best of it. If there’s one thing that we can learn from Dumi, it’s that dreams aren’t futile if you aren’t scared to do the work that turns them into a reality. Be courageous. ⓚ

CULTIVATING GOOD SAVING HABITS & Toni Erasmus

F

or as long as I can remember, I have had a struggle with money: living from hand to mouth and being a slave to my chronic disease also known as “overspending”. Yes, a chronic disease that would later be served to me on a paper plate, sprinkled with disappointment and delayed pain; a useless chasing after wind. Anyway, let’s us cut out all the cheesy stuff! You might be familiar with New Year’s resolution goals, joining a saving clubs or creating a debit order on your savings account. For me, I was like a warrior at failing the above. Two weeks in and I would be back to where I had started. So, not that I am a scholar in financials or any academic of sorts, but what I have learned and observed is based on my personal relationship with money and have resulted in me saving 30% of my earnings. I have indeed learned a pivotal lesson: that the problem does not lie in the system I created but with me. 2018 started off pregnant with possibilities and opportunities to cultivate good saving habits. Having just started my first job, I KRÉHON

knew that somehow, I wouldn’t want to reach December feeling miserably defeated. I was determined to be successful. As overwhelming and challenging as this journey might be, if you really want to take saving to the next level, you will need the following: self-control, strategic planning, a bit of sacrifice and room for error. Let me break this down for you: if you don’t have the above, I am going to be honest and say that this is not for the faint hearted. You will not succeed in saving and you might as well stop reading. BUT, I have hope that you’ll cultivate these skills, so please don’t stop reading.

6 TIPS TO CULTIVATE GOOD SAVING HABITS

SELF-CONTROL There will be times when you feel like you just want to spend but you must practice this value to avoid being defeated.

6 TIPS TO HELP YOU SAVE

KRÉHON

STRATEGY Strategic planning is pivotal; you need a game plan. It is so important to set goals and to train yourself gradually. You cannot start saving 50% of your salary and expect to survive; it is not realistic and you will undoubtedly spend more than that. Therefore, start small and get the ball rolling.

1. SET GOALS: Setting a constructive, motivating goal will help you work and strive diligently towards that. It is important to visualise your goal and to make it as alive as possible. The more you see it as a reality, the more you will believe it. 2. SET GOALS Be accountable: Building a group of friends that will help you to be accountable is good for support in your journey. However, being accountable for every cent you spend is even more important for your savings plan. Let us not be ignorant: we don’t keep track of anything these days, neither do we know where money is going. Part of my strategy is creating a monthly budget and obviously, I do the till slip thing (yes, I archive it inside my wallet; just love that). The truth is, any amount starts with a cent and we can easily be

overspending on something that does not benefit us. 3. SPEND WISELY: This is one thing I had to learn the hard way. No matter what I buy or how I spend my money, I am committed to spending it wisely. When we start respecting money, we respect ourselves, our time and others. I have always compromised by buying things for the sake of pleasing someone or being dragged into a surprise party that was not budgeted for. This is a bad habit and I had to learn to say “no thanks, maybe next time”, even if it meant disappointing people close to me. 4. BE PROACTIVE: You can do this by researching for sales or by collecting coupons. Please try Snap n Save. Through the Snap n Save App, I have managed to get 10% back on certain

goods purchased. This money comes in handy on a rainy day plus it’s easy and effective. I also implemented a meal preparation plan to avoid spending because I am starving. Think about your unique potholes that make you go crazy. For me, it is getting my belly filled; I literally want the entire store when I am starving. Therefore, when preparing meals, I save money because I avoid visiting the store during my lunch time. 5. MULTIPLY: Saving can make you feel extremely depressed if you do not see your money growing. Therefore, I would encourage you to speak to your bank and ask them for options on interest rates. Look into investments,

ROOM FOR ERROR However, above all these essential traits that we need to cultivate and mature, we have to be prepared to fail and leave room for error. It is so important to take our heads out of the mud when we find ourselves slipping up. We need to be ready to get back into the swing and remember the goal.

stokvels or start a small business to increase your savings. When you start seeing your profits and savings grow, you would likely get addicted to the positive feeling. 6. REWARD YOURSELF: Be strategic about your rewards to yourself and try to weave it into your entertainment calendar. I like to treat myself after every R1000 increase. I would literally purchase anything I want to the value of R300 (yes, my treats are R300). However, I also know that I have birthday parties that I am invited to, or I have a group of friends that want to go out in the following month, so I would save my reward and keep it for when I would need it. ⓚ
