Late-night is a time that evokes inspiration in lots of people. For others, late at night is a sacred, solemn time of reflection. And yet, for others, it’s about making it through to the dawn. Regardless of what it means to any of us, a late-night shower will fall on us all when we’re awake long enough to experience it. Just changing things up, style-wise, here at KZine. I’m trying new things and adding new fun things for you, the readers. Without you, by the way, none of this would still be happening! So, I want to send a huge thanks out to everyone who’s been around since the very first issue and to all of those who’ve hopped on board since! I hope you enjoy! As always, feel free to message me at kzine4@gmail.com with questions, concerns, praise, suggestions, or even just to say “Hey, I’m out here!” I love hearing from you all! Happy Pride Month, by the way! Kris

Late-Night “I have late night conversations with the moon, he tells me about the sun and I tell him about you.” -S. L. Gray “The night walked down the sky with the moon in her hand.” -Frederick L. Knowles “Night is a world lit by itself.” -Antonio Porchia, Voces, 1943, translated from Spanish by W.S. Merwin “Most glorious night! Thou wert not sent for slumber!” ~Lord Byron, Childe Harold “I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day.” -Vincent Van Gogh “Night time is really the best time to work. All the ideas are there to be yours because everyone else is asleep.” -Catherine O’Hara “Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again. When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree.“ -Antoine de Saint-Exupéry “What I take from my nights, I add to my days.” ~Leon de Rotrou, “Vencelas,” translated “So dear night the half of life is, And the fairest half indeed.” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Shower Noun: 1) a brief fall of rain or, sometimes, of hail or snow. 2) a large supply or quantity; a shower of wealth 3) a fall of many objects, as tears, sparks, or missiles. Verb: 1) To bestow liberally or lavishly. 2) to deluge (a person) with gifts, favors, etc.: 3) to bathe (oneself) Showerthought is a loose term that applies to any thought you might have while carrying out a routine task like showering, driving, or daydreaming. Everyone who’s ever taken a shower has an idea. It’s the person who gets out of the shower, dries off and does something about it who makes a difference. ~Nolan Bushnell “I commonly went ashore every day, either upon business, or to recreate myself in the fields, which were very pleasant, and the more for a shower of rain now and then, that ushers in the wet season.” ~William Dampier “When the sunburn I blind, When the sky showers I cover, When the wind blows I blanket, When the death calls I undergo, When would I experience the nature?” ~Santosh Avvannavar

It’s obvious that destiny wants to turn me In a direction most unaccepted, But how do you abandon What you’ve always been trained to trust? I know the freedom will be ecstasy, And finding that I don’t need someone else For my completion Will teach me liberation. It’s just that I am petrified of the dark road That leads me there...

Now I’m holding your hand, Making a path for two While the moon in your eyes provides the light.

4

Your eyes have redefined me. You love me with such grandeur— Such all. My only solace from the blackness Is the green of your skylight.

Sure, I’ll walk uninhibited-Just so long as you leave the light off. I can communicate like no one’s paying attention, If the street is dark and not moonlit-No, not even the half moon.

We are free; We have found infinity… All I want now Is to seize the night air And inject myself with your tides…

A heart that won’t accept love, A face that can stare into a spirit like yours And not find its required warmth Is further gone than your tears should follow.

There’s a passion in me That flees at the first sight of winter And redefines its intensity At the sound of this song’s intimate expression. Am I blind to what this barrenness could offer? It’s just that I need something different-I am bound by that which has me obsessed. The thought of going without Relieves my thoughts, While still splitting the foundation of me. Can you tell me--teach me--to break free? Every night, I need to write of this chaos, Because it’ll take each night I’ve got left To fit in every piece of what encompasses my mind. I want to be happy, contented, with right now; I can’t stand relying on what waits ahead. I need to survive on what encircles me in this moment. These stars will shine differently tomorrow, The clouds won’t ever look exactly the same, And this day will never be able to duplicate itself, Besides, the way you make me feel Just stops me where I am anyway...

What is your late-night shower?

Parting Words/PSA/Current Events June 26 marks one-year anniversary of marriage equality being passed! (Coincidentally, that is today, the day that this zine is finally being finished!) The LGBTQIA community mourned the loss of 49 of its own in Orlando as a result of a hate attack at Pulse Nightclub on June 12. Fifty-three others were also injured, some critically. The presidential election insanity rages on. Trump is still saying ignorant shit to appeal to his supporters. Finding Dory! It was SO GOOD. If you haven’t seen it, DO IT! It’s freaking hot out. A white rapist from Stanford University pretty much got away with raping an unconscious woman. More, now than ever, it’s so important to value one another, regardless of our differences. The Chewbacca lady. (I, personally, thought it was funny the first time, but it escalated REALLY QUICKLY.) The tragic loss of a 2-year-old due to an alligator attack at Disney World in Florida. Trump becomes a Christian? That remains to be seen. Also, why is this important in his run for the presidency? It’s not. Can we just stop hating one another out of fear already? Are you afraid of Muslims/LGBT people/people of different backgrounds and cultures? Get to know one personally. Dispel the fear.
