Problem There are particles in the finished coating

There are runs in the finish

Troubleshooting Tips

Cause & Solution There are 3 main reasons for particles 1) Too much dust in the air. Make sure that surrounding area is cleaned thoroughly and vacuum if necessary. Ensure you coat the glass immediately after wiping with alcohol. Avoid having too many people walking around in the area being coated. Turn off any fans and turn down or turn off the A/C. These measures reduce the amount of dust in environment 2) Window edges not cleaned or taped properly. A lot of the dirt is contained in the widow seals and edges and these are the most difficult to clean entirely. Make sure that when taping you lip over onto the glass by by 1/32” of an inch .(1mm) to ensure the dirt in the edge is sealed, and pay special attention when cleaning the edges. 3) Particles from the sponge. Try to do the coating process with the minimum number of strokes as the friction on the sponge may cause it to break up and leave some particles. It is best to do the application right first time. Use a new sponge every 25 sq ft and only use one side of the sponge. There are 2 main reasons for runs in the finish. 1) Too much liquid for the area to be covered. Ensure that you use only 2 grams of liquid per sq ft of glass. 2) Liquid not dragged down the glass. Ensure you use the top to bottom and wiper strokes to drag the liquid down the glass.

Troubleshooting Tips

Cause & Solution

1) When doing the final finishing strokes, be very gentle and smooth. 2) Only do a finishing stroke on one side down to bottom where the finishing stroke ends. 3) Try to do the finishing stroke all in one movement without removing the sponge from the glass.

1) Ensure you use the right amount of liquid per block and do the dabs close together to ensure a even amount of liquid over all areas of the glass block to be coated. 2) Ensure the glass is thoroughly cleaned. If there are any areas of grease, silicone, or large dust particles the KristalBond coating will not bond to that area of the glass. You need to remove the coating are re clean that area.

There is a line of liquid lying at the bottom of the glass.

1) It is normal to have some excess liquid at the bottom of the glass. Ensure excess liquid is removed as part of the finishing stroke at the bottom of the glass.

After I have removed the tapes there are lines showing at the edge of the windows 1) When taping you have taped too far onto the glass. It is important to just lip onto the glass by a fraction (1/32” or 1mm) otherwise the lines in the coating edge will be noticeable. The finish is not clear or has small dimples (Orange peel effect) or lines in it. This is due to the liquid starting to dry before the final strokes have been completed. It is important that you complete the block quickly and do not go over the area when it has started to dry otherwise you will disturb KristalBond’s self leveling process. Especially when the glass surface is hot or there is high humidity you need to do the coating process quickly. Check each block to ensure a good coating before moving onto the next block. Do not go back over a block once it has started to dry to correct problems.
