In everyone’s favorite movie ‘Grease’ youth rebellion is showcased in leather jackets, long pencil skirts, and skin- tight flat front cropped pants. The tops showed as much skin as was socially possible. This differed form the norm that was the conservative1950’s a-lines and were matched with collared skirts and cardigans. The waistline was high allowing for shorter tops and upper ab definition.

People are starting to look back to past generations to feel more connected with their family. This retroflection results in echoes of history showing up in street fashion. The 1950’s youth rebellion is the most glorified youth movement to date. People see these movies and can help but relate with the characters and their plights.

Last generations work force has gotten so focused on ‘living to work’ they are clashing within today’s workplace with the next generation ‘work to live’ mentality. This clash is bringing forth a sense of re- bellion and disconnection. The two generations are at war with each other as it was in the 1950 ‘s the young took sides. They called themselves squares and drapes.
Manifestation
RETRO is in; the building popularity of movies like Grease and Cry Baby and the reintroduction of records into the music industry are sings that 1950’s youth cul- ture is the future of this fall. We want to have our cake and eat it too. We want all the new gismos and gadgets but we want them fashioned after outdated technology. New isn’t what it cracked up to be.
