has been student driven, sometimes by one director of a group, at other times as a collaboration by “the ensemble”. Many play groups tonight are employing the spoils of my recent purchases from local opportunity shops in order to see how many different configurations we can achieve with a modest amount of second hand furniture pieces in the true sprit of Grotowski’s “Poor Theatre”. Performing Arts at Girton Grammar School proudly present the One Act Play Festival which culminates the Term One cocurricular activity, Actors’ Studio. The students have been given the opportunity to work together in preparing a ten minute, or shorter, play and have taken to the task with enthusiasm, creativity and an outstanding sense of self-driven purpose. What has been significant again this year (as in previous years), has been the number of students who have decided to write their own plays. This indicates the great confidence and interest the students have in telling their own stories. In all cases, the direction of stage blocking and stagecraft
Various awards are presented at the end of the evening which provide incentive and friendly artistic rivalry amongst the performers. Aside from the awards, I hope the event instils an “art for art’s sake” philosophy amongst performers and audience alike. Actors’ Studio is an opportunity for students to take some creative risks, to write and play characters we want to write and play, to learn to manipulate dramatic and comedic elements and to truly be in charge of the performance product. 3:The Dirty Fork Written By Monty Python This classic Monty Python sketch starts simply and escalates rapidly. Think twice before you complain about the state of your cutlery.

This is the last straw for the three rather anthropomorphic pigs. It’s time for revenge. But what we found out is that each one of us is an absurdist...and a communist...and a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean 4: At World’s End...and allergic to doggos ...and blatantly ripping off the beloved 1985 cult classic The Breakfast Club. Does that answer your question? I hope not, as this conversation is a little one-sided. I feel like I’m the only one talking. Who are you, dear audience member? Therein lies the real question. The Friends of Performing Arts (FOPA) is a parent and friends’ group that provides support for the Drama and Music Department in both the Junior and Senior School.
