OPEN CALL – NORDIC SOUND BITE JA JA JA FESTIVAL – ROUNDHOUSE LONDON 8-9 NOVEMBER Deadline for Applications: 18 October 2013
New Nordic Food II (NNF II) is a communication programme under the Nordic Council of Ministers that promotes Nordic food in the region and internationally. NNF II sees gastronomy as a valuable creative industry and promotes cooperation with other Nordic creative industries.
As part of the forthcoming Ja Ja Ja Festival, NNF II is inviting emerging food artists (chef/designers) from the Nordic countries to be part of an exciting cross-creative collaboration between music and food. The project will involve Nordic musicians partnering with Nordic food artists - who will then design and develop a special “Nordic Sound Bite”, based of ’DNA’ of the individual musician’s sound and characteristics. The Nordic Sound Bite is to be experienced live and could be of any shape, design or character. The process will be curated by designer Nikolaj Danielsen from Madeleines Madlab. and the concept will be presented publicly at the Ja Ja Ja Festival, a major two-day event taking place at London’s iconic Roundhouse.. achieve this we are looking for 3-5 persons from the Nordic countries that can: translate sound (a piece of music) into taste, consistency, shape and or social/cultural context Communicate their message into a relevant form, choice of material and in process Navigate Skype, Facebook and other social media
NNF II offers curatorial support, experience with event development and the creative processes, as well as an international network. Moreover, the project supplies a framework and an international creative platform for exposure, self-development and collaboration with some of the coolest Nordic musicians right now. You will be offered a travel budget including return flights to the Ja Ja Ja Festival in London, and return travel to a 24h workshop in Copenhagen (including accommodation and expenses). In return, we ask you to commit some working hours and be available for the Copenhagen workshop (on October 24th) and the Ja Ja Ja Festival (7-9th November). About the Ja Ja Ja Festival Between November 8-9th 2013, the spirit of Nordic creativity will be brought to life at London’s iconic Roundhouse with launch of the first ever Ja Ja Ja Festival. This new event will take the best and most innovative of Nordic music, film and food to the heart of the UK. As well as showcasing some of the biggest and hottest bands in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden - including Mew, The Raveonettes, mum, NONONO, Husky Rescue, LCMDF, Truls and Annie - the festival will feature a second Ja Ja Ja stage of emerging acts, rarely-screened music

More details here: www.jajajamusic.com Nordic Sound Bite New Nordic Food is supporting partner to the festival and has developed the concept “Nordic Sound Bite” together with curator and designer Nikolaj Danielsen (DK). The Nordic Sound Bite is the ultimate Nordic cross-creative collaboration between music and food. The concept aims to strengthen the Nordic culture brand in general, and specifically at the Ja Ja Ja Festival in London. In this case, music will add credibility, access and exposure to the food, and vice versa. The aim is for collaboration to heighten the experience of art forms. This will also manifest the added value of cross-collaborations within the Nordic creative industries, not at least in all international platforms.
How to apply: Please let the application include: 1. A snapshot from your everyday life of what the essence of ‘Nordic’ means for you 2. Idea sketches or case presentations of 1-2 past projects that would be relevant and representative of the process / method you want to use working with the Nordic Sound Bite 3. Explain / communicate how the Nordics have been influential on your way of solving the attached projects
