AFTER THE DARK
CARLA MOLINS PITARCH 2019
Conclusion Omnipresence has become a personal exploration to push forward existing dark matter’s ideas in terms of materiality and interaction beyond my own expectations. All users’ reactions towards the main component of this installation, the mechanical system that controls the expansion and contraction of the galaxy autonomously, were extremely positive causing a lot of curiosity toward the topic. Therefore, one of the main goals is fulfilled by this fact, awakening interest towards the matter in a non-knowledgeable audience. However, multiple constraints in terms of logistics and space prevented the final scale from being as large as envisioned at the very beginning. At the end, this didn’t impact on the final interaction, but it reflected on the spectacularity of the total motion of the piece. Omnipresence required multiple resources to achieve its final form. In future iterations of this research, there are significant constraints that should be considered from the outset: the duration and intensity of the process, plus the financial impact of creating a work such as this. As a result, these difficulties required reshaping and rethinking multiple elements to fit the timeline and budget. In the future, it would be beneficial to find an external funding source if possible to mitigate these aspects and produce final high-end products. All in all, I see this thesis as an opportunity to continue to bring complex concepts into a physical form. The installation Omnipresence in its current form has room for improvement. But what captivates me is the idea of engaging with other “unknowns” and nurturing them to the level of existence that Omnipresence has right now. So, I leave a door open to applying the same methodology followed to create Omnipresence to explore other concepts that I’m very interested such as black holes, string theory, and void.
