AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE FOR KIDS AND ADULTS Learn vocabulary words, finger spelling, common everyday words, and conversational skills. Discover the importance of facial/body language and be exposed to aspects of deaf culture. AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE - PARENT AND ME Ages 3 and under Babies and Toddlers can learn to communicate with their parents before they can speak! Sign language is an effective approach to introduce the concept of language to children at an early stage in development. PICTURE ME READING! Grades K - 3 A six-week program for beginning and struggling readers that teaches the critical sight words necessary for reading success. PERSONAL & SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT FREE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS The Family Resource Center collaborates with local organizations to provide FREE educational classes. These classes are scheduled on – going throughout the year. Call the Family Resource Center at 619.269.1430 or e-mail sdkroc.frc@usw.salvationarmy.org for current information on dates, times, and locations. MASTER YOUR MONEY The Family Resource Center collaborates with local organizations to provide FREE financial education classes. Classes are designed to achieve the following outcomes: improved credit scores, reduction in debt, knowledge increase, tax information, increased savings, and opening or maintenance of bank accounts. Must be 18 years or older. Free child care is provided for participants and incentives are provided for course completion. UNEMPLOYMENT SUPPORT Come meet weekly with others that not only share your situation but care about turning things around. Meet with individuals and share resources, experiences, and overall knowledge about job searching, interviewing, and staying positive! This is an ongoing, weekly group. WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT The Family Resource Center is offering a weekly empowerment group for women who reside within the Kroc Center’s surrounding community. Involves group participation, networking, emotional support, and group participation in activities on campus. This is an ongoing, weekly group. NUTRITION EDUCATION This class is designed to promote healthy eating and food preparation for parents and guardians with children 5 and under. Free child care is provided for participants and incentives are provided for course completion. This course is offered as five, weekly one-hour sessions. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) The Family Resource Center offers ESL classes in collaboration with Laubach Literacy. Free child care is provided for participants and incentives are provided for course completion. This course is offered twice a week, every week.

LIFE LIFEOPTIONS OPTIONS Life Options provides an opportunity for individuals age 55 and over to remain positively engaged in their communities while exploring educational, social and volunteer experiences. For current information call 619.269.1535


HOMEWORK CLUB

ARTS & CRAFTS CLASS Enjoy sewing, crafting, jewelry making, knitting, crocheting, scrap booking and more. Bring your own projects to work on or purchase materials to make the projects demonstrated in class. Learn how and why crafting can help to keep your brain fit and your mind sharp. ONGOING KINSHIP SUPPORT GROUP For those raising grandchildren, nieces, nephews or other relatives, this group offers specialized training classes, resources and referrals. Classes are in English every Thursday. Call Rose House at 619.447.5004 for service and meeting information. REDISCOVER SAN DIEGO Weekly field trips to explore cultural, historical, and recreational opportunities in San Diego County. SCENE STUDY CLASS A senior theater class taught by a professional through San Diego Community College Continuing Education. Students are given scripts, pair up, and do rehearsal homework. For beginning and intermediate level actors. BRAIN FITNESS The Brain Fitness Program Is a workout for the brain featuring six computer- based exercises. The exercises target roots of cognitive function that improve processing speed, working and narrative memory and sound discrimination, precision and sequencing. Need help with your homework? Join the Homework Club and get help and encouragement from trained staff and volunteers twice a week. Students in need of more intensive assistance will be referred to appropriate resources as we do not provide one – on – one tutoring. Pre – registration is recommended; drop – in assistance is available upon approval.

PERFORMING ARTS JAZZ I Ages 6 - 10 Dancers will learn jazz terminology as well as rhythmic accents, turns, jumps, and choreography. Practice the pattern of center warm up, core strengthening, center stretching, across the floor turns, and jumps.

DANCE & MAKE MUSIC All classes are eight weeks in length, unless otherwise noted. No classes will be held on holidays; fees will be prorated accordingly. Classes are subject to cancellation or change due to low enrollment. Art supplies are Included in the cost of each class. Classes are limited to 20 students, unless otherwise noted.

DANCE LIFE OPTIONS Students will be invited to participate in our winter dance recital to be held in our beautiful Joan B. Kroc Worship Theatre. BALLET Ballet shoes and leotards are required for Ballet II and above. For recital purposes, please purchase pink ballet shoes for girls and black ballet shoes for boys. BALLET I Students explore basic ballet steps while also learning rhythm and coordination. BALLET II Continue learning basic ballet steps and terminology while improving poise, rhythm, stretching and coordination through more advanced ballet combinations. *Previous experience or instructor approval required. BALLET III A more advanced version of Ballet II, students continue learning ballet combinations, rhythm, stretching and coordination. *Previous experience or instructor approval required. BALLET IV Dancers at an intermediate level will meet twice a week to increase their strength, rhythm, balance, and coordination. The class will be at a faster pace and will cover turns and jumps. By the time the dancer completes the session they should feel comfortable with basic intermediate steps. *Previous experience or instructor approval required. This class meets two days a week. TEEN BALLET Teens will use beginning steps to understand ballet technique. The class will be centered around anatomical safety, as well as using traditional combinations to increase their knowledge of ballet. The dancer will have a greater sense of balance, have better coordination, and have learned several small dance combinations by the end of each session. ADULT BALLET For students of all experience levels, adult ballet will build on basic ballet fundamentals and work to develop skills within individual capability. BALLET/JAZZ COMBO Beginning ballet and jazz taught through the use of imagery and repetition. The dancer will learn dance positions and terminology; while increasing their coordination, strength and flexibility. Dancer will also increase spatial awareness.

OTHER DANCE STYLES LIFE OPTIONS BBREAK DANCE FREE Ages 12 - 16 Students learn basic break dancing technique including foot work, uprock and power moves. BROADWAY BABIES Ages 4 - 8 Have fun learning techniques to improve natural acting ability. This is a great introduction into the world of singing, dancing and acting for stage; and a wonderful place to learn self-expression! ADULT CONTEMPORARY/MODERN DANCE Ages 18+ Adults will use beginning steps to form an artistic style of movement. The class will be centered around anatomical safety, as well as using ones own enthusiasm for movement to increase range of personal expression. HIP HOP Ages 8 - 13 Students will be taken on a wonderful journey with all the latest Hip Hop moves. TEEN HIP HOP Ages 13-18 Learn the basics of freestyle and other choreography while incorporating stretching and conditioning into a constantly upbeat and energetic hip hop style.

LINE DANCING Ages 18 and over Come kick up your skirts and stomp your feet with some good ole fashion Line Dancing. We will focus on newly created line dances with traditional movements and stylized line dances that you’ll see in the Country Clubs. Boots and Cowboy Hats Welcome!! Yee-Haw!! Session Fee: $40/Members $50/Guests PILATES FOR DANCERS Ages 16 and over Using Body Arts and Science International matwork, the class will focus on concepts related to dance. Through beginning and intermediate movement we will be correcting alignment, increasing balance, strength, and flexibility. SING, SIGN, BOOGIE! Ages 2 - 4 Start up that little engine and get those motor skills going! Toddlers will enjoy signing with their hands and dancing with their feet. A fun way to develop coordination and language through music and play. HIP HOP / TAP FOR TOTS Ages 3-5 Tap those toes and stomp those heels! Tots interested in tap and hip-hop like instruction come check out this class. The first half hour is focused on tap and the second on very basic hip-hop moves. See what magic your little one’s can create! DANCER AND GYMNAST FUNDAMENTALS Ages 8-15 Dance movement instruction, toning and conditioning to strengthen dancers and gymnasts. Class will focus on connecting movement phrases to give students the opportunity to perform on stage and show off their various strengths.


DANCE WORKSHOP Ages 16+ For teens/adults who aren’t faint of heart. Previous dancers who would like an outlet to release their passion for the artistry of dance, come join us. Students will be creating a complete body of work with all forms of dance involved. Fall performance piece will focus on “A Day in Notre Dame”.

THEATER LIFE OPTIONS ACTING I Ages 8-13 Students will work on monologues, scenes, and performance organization. Lessons on improve, enunciation, projection, abolishing stage fright, and audition prep are also included. Students will be engaged in fun activities concentrating on working as a group which will later come into use onstage. BROADWAY DANCE Ages 6-10/10+ A combination of dance styles commonly used in musical theatre. Learn musical theatre choreography and combinations while dancing to popular Broadway show tunes. Learn the movements necessary for musical theatre auditions from a professional choreographer. MONOLOGUE/AUDITION TUTELAGE Ages 8-16 Focus on individual development as an actor/actress to enhance performance capabilities. PLAYWORKS Ages 13+ Create and perform a One Act Play and get a chance to try your hand at directing.

DISNEY THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. In a magical kingdom fathoms below, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince Prince Eric that she’s the girl with the enchanting voice.

FINE ARTS CREATE All classes are eight weeks in length, unless otherwise noted. No classes will be held on holidays; fees will be prorated accordingly. Classes are subject to cancellation or change due to low enrollment. Art supplies are Included in the cost of each class. Classes are limited to 20 students, unless otherwise noted.

FINE ARTS TEEN PHOTOSHOP Ages 13 - 18 Students learn the basics of Photoshop, a professional tool for photo editing and graphic design, and digital photography. ADULT PHOTOSHOP Ages 19+ Students learn the basics of Photoshop incorporating digital photography, photo editing, and scrapbooking tools. YOGA & ART Ages 9 - 12 This class will be a combination of yoga moves and making art. The first half of each session we will do yoga and the last half of the class we will do an art project, using different materials and a new concept each time. MY SHAPES MAKE ART Ages 5 - 8 Learn the basic essentials of art by using well-known shapes to create each piece with painting, drawing, and mixed media techniques. Each session has a different theme.

TODDLER ART TALES Ages 3 - 5 Bring little ones to our cozy library and enjoy stories, rhymes, and puppetry followed by a fun art project related to the day’s theme! Session Fee: $30 Members/ $40 Guests

COLOR ME RJ! HEY KIDS, use your imagination & creativity to bring me to life with color

ECO FREINDLY Ages 6 - 12 A fun class encouraging students to be creative as they work with recycled materials to create wonderful works of art, beautifying the environment while helping it. Session Fee: $30 Members/ $40 Guests PAINTING FOR PLEASURE Ages 12-18 Explore colors, painting techniques and alternatives. Using watercolors and acrylic paints, the artists will become more comfortable expressing themselves. FAMILY CERAMICS Ages 8+ An introduction to ceramic materials and processes. Students will learn how to make figurative sculptures, molds, work with the potter’s wheel, glazing techniques, and fire clay items. Fee: $90/members $110/guests

PLEASANT PRESENT WORKSHOPS Ages 13+ A class designed to revolutionize your wrapping experience. Giving gifts so beautiful the recipient won’t want to unwrap them. This class goes over detailed techniques and will be basic at its skill level .
