N I G H T S Arts and literacy come together for a fun and engaging series of evenings. Each night features a themed presentation by one of San Diego’s premiere cultural institutions and an interactive art project from Young Audiences. Each family takes home a free book related to the evening’s theme! Takes place in the Education Center Multipurpose Room unless otherwise noted.

LITERACY AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE FOR KIDS Learn vocabulary words, finger spelling, common everyday words, and conversational skills. Discover the importance of facial/body language and be exposed to aspects of deaf culture.
AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE
PRACTICAL THEATER CLASS A senior theater class taught by a professional through San Diego Community College Continuing Education. Students are given scripts, pair up, and do rehearsal homework. For beginning and intermediate level actors.
BRAIN FITNESS
Parent and Me, Ages 3 and under Babies and Toddlers can learn to communicate with their parents before they can speak! Sign language is an effective approach to introduce the concept of language to children at an early stage in development.
The Brain Fitness Program Is a workout for the brain featuring six computer- based exercises. The exercises target roots of cognitive function that improve processing speed, working and narrative memory and sound discrimination, precision and sequencing. COMPUTER BASICS
Grades K - 3 A six-week program for beginning and struggling readers that teaches the critical sight words necessary for reading success. Dr. Marlys Isaacson’s unique “Picture Me Reading!” method rapidly increases word recognition, fluency and self-confidence. Permission to enroll based on reading assessment. PERSONAL & SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT FREE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS The Family Resource Center collaborates with local organizations to provide FREE educational classes. These classes are scheduled on – going throughout the year. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) The Family Resource Center offers ESL classes in collaboration with Laubach Literacy. Free child care is provided for participants and incentives are provided for course completion. This course is offered twice a week, every week.

CALLING ALL TEENS! SATURDAY GAMING All Ages Check out the latest video games for the PS3 and Wii or hang out with friends while playing a variety of board games.
TEEN NIGHT Ages 13-18 Enjoy Teen Night every 2nd and 4th Friday with Kroc Church. Each month will feature a different theme such as games, cooking, media, etc.
ROCK THE TALK! Ages 13-18 This course will inspire teenagers and build confidence in speaking. After this class you will feel more comfortable speaking in front of small groups, large audiences, and one-onone interviews. BALLET/JAZZ COMBO Beginning ballet and jazz taught through the use of imagery and repetition. The dancer will learn dance positions and terminology; while increasing their coordination, strength and flexibility. Dancer will also increase spatial awareness.
BALLET/TUMBLING COMBO: Ages 3-5 Children will learn basic ballet steps. They will learn to improve coordination, increase body awareness, learn left and right, and have fun at the same time
OTHER DANCE STYLES BROADWAY BABIES Ages 4 - 8 Have fun learning techniques to improve natural acting ability. This is a great introduction into the world of singing, dancing and acting for stage; and a wonderful place to learn selfexpression!
HIP HOP FOR TOTS Ages 3-5 Tap those toes and stomp those heels! Tots interested in tap and hip-hop instruction come check out this class. The first half hour is focused on tap and the second on very basic hip-hop moves. See what magic your little one’s can create!
HIP HOP (Beginning & Intermediate) Ages 8 - 13 Students will be taken on a wonderful journey with all the latest Hip Hop moves.
This class is a Pilates Yoga mix that will focus on stretching, physical rehabilitation from injuries, genetics, and even daily stress. This class is great core work and strength building.
JAZZ I Ages 6 - 10 Dancers will learn jazz terminology as well as rhythmic accents, turns, jumps, and choreography. Practice the pattern of center warm up, core strengthening, center stretching, across the floor turns, and jumps.

SING, SIGN, BOOGIE! Ages 2 - 4 Start up that little engine and get those motor skills going! Toddlers will enjoy signing with their hands and dancing with their feet. A fun way to develop coordination and language through music and play.
LINE DANCING Ages 18+ Come kick up your skirts and stomp your feet with some good ole fashion Line Dancing. We will focus on newly created line dances with traditional movements and stylized line dances that you’ll see in the Country Clubs. Boots and Cowboy Hats Welcome!! Yee-Haw!! THEATER ACTING I Ages 8-13 Students will work on monologues, scenes, and performance organization. Lessons on improve, enunciation, projection, abolishing stage fright, and audition prep are also included. Students will be engaged in fun activities concentrating on working as a group which will later come into use onstage. July- August session only.
BROADWAY DANCE Ages 7-12 A combination of dance styles commonly used in musical theatre. Learn musical theatre choreography and combinations while dancing to popular Broadway show tunes. Learn the movements necessary for musical theatre auditions from a professional choreographer. MONOLOGUE/AUDITION TUTELAGE Ages 8-16 Focus on individual development as an actor/ actress to enhance performance capabilities.
DANCE CREATE – A – CLASS See a dance class listed that you’re interested in, but the time doesn’t fit your schedule? Then grab at least three friends and create-a-class! ACROBATICS I- BEGINNING Ages 8 - 15 Learn basic tumbling skills while improving strength and flexibility. Skills include handstands, backbends and cartwheels. Skills include handstands, backbends and cartwheels and progress to more difficult skills such as back walkovers and aerials.
TOTS TUMBLING Ages 1-3 Introduces basic tumbling skills: coordination, flexibility, balance, strength and development of motor skills. Provides interaction with other toddlers. Parent participation is required. Clothing should not be restrictive. Session Fee: $50 Members/ $60 Guests

MY SHAPES MAKE ART
PAINTING FOR PLEASURE Ages 9-13 and 13-18 Explore colors, painting techniques and alternatives. Using watercolors and acrylic paints, the artists will become more comfortable expressing themselves.
Ages 5 - 8 Learn the basic essentials of art by using well-known shapes to create each piece with painting, drawing, and mixed media techniques. Each session has a different theme. Session Fee: $60 Members / $80 Guests

TEEN/ADULT PHOTOSHOP Ages 13 - 18 Students learn the basics of Photoshop, a professional tool for photo editing and graphic design, and digital photography.
FAMILY CERAMICS
Ages 6-12 A fun class encouraging students to be creative as they work with recycled materials to create wonderful works of art, beautifying the environment while helping it. Session Fee: $30 Members/ $40 Guests
Ages 8+ An introduction to ceramic materials and processes. Students will learn how to make figurative sculptures, molds, work with the potter’s wheel, glazing techniques, and fire clay items. Fee:$90/members $110/guests
YOGA AND ART Ages 9 - 12 This class will be a combination of yoga moves and making art. The first half of each class we will do yoga, the second half will focus on an art project, using different materials and a new concept each time.
