A Note from the Majors MAJORS ANDY & CHERYL MILLER, Area Commander & Senior Kroc Officer Welcome to the Fall 2017 edition of The Salvation Army Kroc Center Program Guide! If you are like us, you are already looking forward to the cool days of autumn and the changing of seasons. This is a great time of year to be #krocstrong! As the children go back to school, it’s time to get fall schedules in order and extracurricular activities under way. We hope you will make Kroc Center programming part of your daily routine. Whether it is swimming lessons, golf, piano lessons or our youth character development programs, we have something for you and your family. We invite you to become spiritually “fit” with us as well, not only through our fitness community, but also through the greater community of Christ. Please ask either of us about becoming part of our congregation. God bless you.

Tai Chi is gentle, slow, fluid movement designed for health and, originally, the martial arts. Similar to walking in its exertion level, Tai Chi reduces stress, lubricates the joints, improves cardiovascular health, aids concentration and memory. The Mayo Clinic and Harvard Medical School recommend Tai Chi for general health and a number of chronic conditions. This 6-week class focuses on health, but martial applications will be mentioned. Member Spotlight: with Debbie Bruce,
Kroc Center Member & Bodybuilder
We recently interviewed bodybuilder and Kroc Center Member, Debbie Bruce, regarding the Kroc Center’s role in her regimen and journey as a female bodybuilder. the other members. They are all very friendly and supportive! KROC - What keeps you coming back to the Kroc Center?
D
ebbie Bruce has always been in good shape, working out and playing volleyball. However, in her late 30s, she decided to focus on bodybuilding, which is a completely different mindset, incorporating strict dietary constraints and weight lifting, especially during her training for competitions. She recently competed in the Mid-Illinois Bodybuilding, Bikini, and Physique Championships, bringing home 2nd place in her division! KROC - What was the latest thing you trained for and how did the Kroc Center help you accomplish your goal? DB - I recently competed in a bodybuilding show in Ottawa, Illinois on April 1, 2017. I started prepping for the show the beginning of January by following a strict meal plan and an intense training regimen which consisted of weight lifting and cardio. The Kroc Center offered a variety of equipment so that I could complete my workouts. The staff and members also provided encouragement throughout my prep to keep me motivated and stay on track during my preparation leading up to the show. KROC - What do you like most about the Kroc Center facility?
DB - Initially I was attracted to the wide variety of cardio and strength equipment that the Kroc has to offer. I can get a complete workout no matter what body part I am training. Currently, after being a member for 6 months, I have really enjoyed getting to know the staff, meeting the other members and making new friends.
#krocstrong KROC - What’s your favorite thing to do here? DB - My favorite thing to do at the Kroc Center is to lift weights. I also enjoy the camaraderie I have with the staff and
DB - I enjoy working out at the Kroc Center because I can easily access any piece of equipment without having to wait until someone is done using it. I have also made new friendships with some of the staff and the other members. I have really enjoyed getting to know them and sharing my journey to compete in a bodybuilding show. I really look forward to my workouts and the Kroc Center environment makes me feel like it is my second home. KROC - What do the words “Kroc Strong” mean to you? DB - “Kroc Strong” means that I have the support of the Kroc community to help me reach my goals and gives me the needed daily motivation to continue living a healthy lifestyle. It also means being a positive role model for others because we all need a little encouragement from time to time. KROC - What advice would you give someone who isn’t a Kroc member yet? DB - I would tell those who are not currently Kroc members to strongly consider trying out the community center. It has so many things to offer individuals and families. The Kroc Center is a step in the right direction to get healthy and stay healthy while having the support of other Kroc community members to keep you motivated on your journey. If you are not taking advantage of what the Kroc Center has to offer for you and/ or your family then you are definitely missing out! The staff and members are a great support system! An individual whose membership has been suspended or terminated will NOT be entitled to a membership fee refund. • If the individual has registered for a class at The Kroc Center, they will not be allowed to take part in this class, and must contact the Membership Services Manager to determine if a refund will be provided. An individual who has had their membership terminated will not be allowed to purchase a membership to The Kroc Center for a period of at least two years, and will be required to meet with the Operations Director and Senior Kroc Officer prior to purchase. MEMBERSHIP CHANGES Any requested change that affects the billing of your membership must be submitted by the 10th of the month to be processed for the following month. If changes occur after the 10th of the month, you will receive a pro-rated amount. Membership downgrades and removal of family members are subject to a $30 change fee. CLASS/PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS Full payment is expected at the time of enrollment. No cash refunds are given unless the program is cancelled by The Kroc Center. If the program is cancelled by The Kroc Center, you will be refunded the fee via a Kroc Center gift card or check. If you request to cancel your class enrollment five or more days prior to your first class, you will receive a full credit on your Kroc Center account or you may choose to transfer to another session if available. Requests made less than five days prior to the start date are not eligible for a refund or a credit, except in the case of personal emergencies. No credits or prorated credits will be issued for missed days of camp or class due to illness, partial attendance, behavior issues or any other reason.
