KROC WORSHIP

WORSHIP CLASSES

At the Kroc Center, intentional living starts with making a decision to get MORE engaged. Therefore, we have developed a number of elements that help families mature and grow spiritually through weekly character development programs. These programs are broken up into age appropriate groups with impassioned leaders who love God and the people they guide. Our objective is to meet people where they are spiritually and provide opportunities for growth in every aspect of life. In addition to the physical wellness programs offered at the Kroc Center, Wednesday evenings at the Kroc focuses on spiritual wellness.

Troops The Salvation Army has designed fun, safe and educational programs with a Biblical foundation. Sunbeams for girls and Adventure Corps for boys and Moonbeans for the little ones offers youth the chance to experience a wide variety of fun and educational activities where the children learn, play, and interact in a safe and positive environment. The Salvation Army’s character building programs are biblically based with caring, trained volunteer leaders and similar in structure to Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts. Each group delves into a range of topics that focuses on spiritual growth and understanding God’s Word as well as exploring books of the Bible in depth. An open discussion fueled by pertinent questions lead into scriptural application and prayer.

Whether you’re a steak-eating carnivore, a Mr. Fix-it handyman or just a guy looking for other guys who actually get you, “Man Up” could well be what you’ve been waiting for. Our youth chorus will participate and even our new youth brass group. There will be activities for the kids to do during the service to keep their attention and opportunity for them to interact with the pastors during the service. Rewarding

Giving hope to a family in need can impact lives in immeasurable ways. We have heard countless times from people who are now working and back on their feet, or have recovered from an addiction or a major crisis in their lives, of how The Salvation Army provided hope for a better tomorrow at a time when they needed it the most. We can’t however do it alone. In fact we can’t do it at all without the generosity of people like you. You can Give Hope year round, and especially during the holiday season by being generous with your time, talents, and treasures. Giving Hope can be as simple as:

Give Your Time Be a volunteer. Opportunities for volunteerism include packing food bags for families in need, painting and general maintenance of our facilities, teaching classes at the Kroc Center and assisting in the various activities that take place every day. Individual volunteers are always needed. Groups of people can have an even greater impact. When Bible study groups, service clubs, churches, neighborhoods, businesses and even families all come together, we are able to provide even more hope to people in need.

Give Your Talent Are you a great organizer, teacher, leader or have a particular talent that could be used to provide to people in need? We need individuals to organize food drives, teach classes, plan fundraisers and join our team of advisors.

Give Your Treasure Financial gifts of all sizes make a difference. Your financial gift can put food on the table of a hungry senior, a roof over the head of a homeless mom and her children, or gas in the car of a veteran who needs to attend a doctor’s appointment. Your gift of whatever amount enables The Salvation Army to meet immediate needs as they arise.

Giving Hope is really very simple and starts with your willingness to do so. Together we can transform lives forever. Will you Give Hope?

Opportunities for Service • Food Bag Packing • Food Distribution • Canned Food Sorting • Building Maintenance • Teaching a class • Assisting class instructors • Reading to children • Tutoring • Clerical • Special events To register as a volunteer with The Salvation Army and discover all the great volunteer opportunities with our organization visit www. solanoarmyofhope.org or call our volunteer hotline at (707) 439-7895.

KROCSTAR Jasmine Cooper Events Attendant Jasmine has been with the Kroc Center since the 2012 opening. She found great pleasure in having a job that allowed her to serve those in need. She says, “Working at the Kroc Center has taught her so much about herself as a single mother to a 10 year old boy, a woman, an associate, and as a friend. By consistently working with the people of the community, we are given the opportunity to meet new people daily with different personalities and different backgrounds. I have worked many events at the Kroc Center, from weddings to Sweet Sixteen parties to grand celebrations for baby showers and first birthdays. I have been here from the beginning and I have seen all of the positive changes that have been made. I am blessed because I have met friends who are like family and also have a place to bring my son to participate in different activities while I work.”

Dan Dunsford Dan was raised in Montana, where bull riding was the family occupation. After college he picked up bull riding full time but was unfortunately severely injured, including a broken neck. He spent the following 15 months in the hospital recovering. Originally, he was told he was never going to walk again. However, over time, he was able to regain some strength, but had very little mobility. While attending the Kroc Senior Health Fair, he learned about what the Kroc Center could offer him as a place to work out. Due to his limited mobility, he wanted to work his upper body strength to a point where he could lift himself up. After working with our Kroc Personal Trainer Sid, he was finally able to reach his goal.

Bouldering Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed safely without the use of ropes or harnesses. It serves to build stamina, technique, and increase finger strength. While it can be done without any equipment whatsoever, most climbers use climbing shoes to help secure footholds, chalk to keep their hands dry, and bouldering crash pads to prevent injuries from falls. The sport originated as a method of training for roped climbs and mountaineering. Bouldering enables climbers to practice at a safe distance from the ground. At the Kroc, our bouldering height is 11 feet at head level, and boulderers position crash pads near the climbing wall to provide a softer landing, as well as one or more spotters to help redirect the climber towards the pads. Kroc’s Climbing Wall will now be available to all members and day pass holders to practice their bouldering skills any time of the day at no cost! All you need is a 20 minute training session with one of our climbing staff during our regular climbing wall hours!!! Age: 18 & Up

Top Roping Top roping is a climbing style in which a rope, used for the climber’s safety, runs from the climber’s partner. Partners, known as a “belayer,” must be Belay Certified and positioned at the foot of a route through one or more carabiners connected to an anchor system at the top of the route and back down to the climber.

Discover the sport of rock climbing on the Kroc Rock Wall. Whether you are 7 or 70 you’re sure to enjoy this great activity. In addition, our Auto Belay systems allow you to work on your endurance and improve your skills without the need of a partner.

Ages: 4 & Up

Climbing Rules • All Climbers must be at least 4 years old for Top Roping, 18 years old for Bouldering. • No open-toed shoes (slippers, sandals, etc.). • No wet clothing. • No child under 12 years of age can be left unattended. • No horseplay, wrestling, or intentionally dropping climbers. • No food or drink is permitted in the rock wall area (other than water). • Belay certification is required.

KROCSTAR Tamala Sullivan, American Sign Language Instructor Tamala was born deaf but wasn’t diagnosed with her hearing loss until she was three years old. She was able to gain some of her hearing back through hearing aids. She began learning to sign and read lips when she was in high school. After she graduated, she attended college for a short while, but couldn’t find what she wanted to do. Now, she has her State Education Credential to teach American Sign Language and works for Vallejo City as an Education Interpreter. Tamala is also working on her National certification. Last March, she got BAHAs, or Bone Anchored Hear Aids. With an attachment she wears around her neck, she can use FM signals to send noise to the hearing implants. Tamala say she just loves to teach and share sign language. At the Kroc, she feels like it’s just a pressure free place; a low key environment where it’s just about sharing the language. There are no tests, no check points, just people learning together.

KROCSTAR Barbara Guzzo Family Enrichment Manager Its all about the kids! Throughout her adult life, Barbara has searched for ways to make a difference in young lives through mentoring, teaching, and “Momming” youth. Her philosophy is simple: “If you’re in front of me, you’re the favorite.” A 35 + year resident of Solano County, Barbara worked as a public school teacher in both Vacaville and the Fairfield Suisun School Districts, teaching students from Kindergarten age through High School. With a degree in English from CSUS, and two teaching credentials, she now uses her experience and education to impact others by developing programs that meet community educational needs. Married for 35 years to her wonderful husband Jamie, she has four sons and 8 grandchildren! Water polo is a challenging water sport played between two teams that try to throw a ball into the opponents’ goal. This sport requires skill, speed, conditioning and endurance. Stretching and proper warm-up before engaging in this sport are important due to the sudden twisting, turning and throwing motions which occur. Water polo requires an individual to be a proficient swimmer, because he cannot touch the sides or bottom of the pool for extended periods of time. Days: Mon, Wed, & Thur. Time: 8:30 P.M. – 9:45 P.M. KROCSTAR Gigi Zaghloul Lifeguard Gigi started interning for high school class credit with the Kroc Center in February of 2014. Her internship was with the graphics department where she helped design banners and form a color palette for designing. While interning, she learned about the lifeguard certification class. She took the course in March, and began working as a lifeguard in May. She also participated in our Kroc Youth Business Project from June-November 2014. She won a $500 scholarship for either attending college or starting a business of her own.

THE KROC CENTER IS CURRENTLY HIRING

FOR LIFEGUARDS! Certification required.

WILL’S 6 SAFETY TIPS 1. Be aware of the pool rules. Each facility has different sets of rules. Rules are for your safety and the safety of others. 2. Make sure your lifejacket is US coast guard approved. These life jackets are tested and rated for consumer safety. When worn properly an unconscious person floats head up. 3. Have kids take a certified swimming class. If your kids are going to be spending a lot of time at the pool, consider enrolling them in a certified swimming class. These classes can teach them some basic pool safety measures and flotation techniques.

4. Learn basic CPR. Make sure at least one adult on the premises is confident performing CPR in the event of an emergency. This can be a life-saver when kids or even adults need help during a drowning incident. 5. Always watch your children in the pool. No one knows your child as well as you. You can recognize your child’s distressed expression and body positioning before other participants. This will prevent an accident before it happens. 6. Always be alert around the pool.
