Au-delà de cette constatation enfantine, il y a surtout l’annonce de l’ouverture de notre treizième boutique en 2013.

Beyond this self-evident statement, there is, more importantly, the announcement of the opening of our 13th boutique in 2013.

En effet, le groupe Kronometry 1999 s’agrandit et accueillera début 2013 un tout nouveau magasin qui sera consacré exclusivement à Ulysse Nardin.

Cette boutique dédiée à la manufacture du Locle se situera à Paris, « collée » au magasin Kronometry 1999. Comme à Cannes, Courchevel et Saint Tropez avec Hublot, nous reprendrons donc à Paris une configuration qui nous est chère à savoir un magasin mono marque associé à une boutique multi marques.

The Kronometry 1999 group is in fact expanding and will welcome a brand new boutique dedicated exclusively to Ulysse Nardin early in the year. This boutique devoted to the Manufacture in Le Locle will be located in Paris, «tacked on» to the Kronometry 1999 store. As with Hublot in Cannes, Courchevel and Saint-Tropez, we are thus reproducing in Paris a configuration which has become dear to us : a monobrand boutique combined with a multi-brand store. We will, of course, keep you informed of the project’s progress and the date of the launch.

Elsewehere, when this issue N° 63 appears, the season in Courchevel will already be underway. We will have reopened the Kronometry 1999 boutique in the hotel Le Lana and the Hublot boutique on Rue du Rocher.

Evidemment, nous vous t iendrons informés de l‘évolution du projet et de la date d’ouverture.

Sinon, à l’heure où sort ce numéro 63, la saison à Courchevel a démarré. Nous avons réouvert la boutique Kronometry 1999 à l’Hôtel Le Lana et la boutique Hublot, rue du Rocher.

Boutique Ulysse Nardin à Paris, la 13ème du groupe !

Depuis plusieurs années, les liens entre Ulysse Nardin et Kronometry 1999 se resserrent un peu plus au fil du temps. Après le corner dans notre boutique de Monaco, celui de Paris et notre partenariat durant le Monaco Yacht Show, une nouvelle étape va être franchie : l’ouverture du boutique Ulysse Nardin.

Le savoir-faire de Kronometry 1999 dans l’ouverture et la gestion de boutiques mono marque n’est plus à démontrer et c’est donc tout naturellement que ce projet a vu le jour.

L’endroit est prestigieux et la surface idéale. En effet, la boutique Ulysse Nardin ouvrira ses portes juste à côté de notre boutique Kronometry 1999. De ce fait, la synergie entre les deux magasins sera totale, comme à Cannes entre notre boutique Kronometry 1999 et notre boutique Hublot.

Les collections trouveront place dans une ambiance vouée à la mer, l’emblème de la manufacture du Locle. Pièces uniques, séries limitées et le reste de la collection seront au rendez-vous.

Ulysse Nardin boutique in Paris, the 13th in the group !

Over the past few years, the ties between Ulysse Nardin and Kronometry 1999 have grown closer with each passing year. After the «corner» in our boutique in Monaco, the one in Paris and our partnership at the Monaco Yacht Show, a new step is about to be taken : the opening of the Ulysse Nardin boutique.

The expertise of Kronometry 1999 for mono-brand boutiques needs no introduction, and this particular project has come to fruition perfectly naturally.

The location is prestigious, the surface area ideal. The Ulysse Nardin boutique will, in fact, open its doors just next to our Kronometry 1999 boutique. There will thus be total synergy between the two stores, just like that between our Kronometry 1999 boutique and the Hublot boutique in Cannes.

The watch collections will take their place in an ambiance inspired by the sea, the emblem of the Manufacture based in Le Locle. Unique pieces, limited editions and the entire collection will all be on display.

The opening is scheduled for March, but we will, of course, keep you informed of the exact date !

Carnival of Venice Minute Repeater

C’est dans l’une des villes les plus romantiques au monde qu’Ulysse Nardin a puisé son inspiration pour sa nouvelle Minute Repeater Venice limitée à 18 exemplaires.

Cette complication permet non seulement de lire mais aussi d’entendre l’heure sous la forme d’un carillon au timbre d’une incroyable clarté, transformant ainsi la montre en instrument de musique.

Le cadran, au cœur de la montre, représente deux personnages devant le pont du Rialto sur le Grand Canal. Le décor des festivités est planté.

Les deux Jaquemarts portent des masques, en référence au Carnaval de Venise, qu’ils soulèvent chaque fois que la répétition sonne les heures, les quarts et les minutes.

Le Jaquemart, inventé à la fin du 17ème siècle, consiste en l’insertion sur le cadran de charmantes figures animées dont les mouvements synchronisés sont subordonnés à la répétition minutes.

Les détails du cadran sont mis en valeur grâce à la technique de l’émail cloisonné, technique sublimée par des ciselures manuelles et des gravures.

Kronometry 1999 vous a réservé le numéro 1/18.

Ulysse Nardin has taken inspiration from one of the world’s most romantic cities for its new Venice Minute Repeater, available in a limited ediiton of only 18 pieces.

This complication enables the wearer not only to read, but also to hear the time in the form of a chime of incredible clarity which transforms the watch into a musical instrument.

The central feature of the watch is, of course, the dial showing two figures standing in front of the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. The decor for festivities is already in place. The two Jaquemart figures wear masks in reference to the Carnival of Venice, which they remove each time the repeater strikes the the hours, quarters and minutes.

Invented at the end of the 17th century, the Jaquemart technique consists of portraying these charming little figures on the dial, whose movements are synchronized with the minute repeater mechanism.

All the details on the dial are further enhanced thanks to the art of «émail cloisonné», a technique combining handworked chiselling and engraving.

Kronometry 1999 has reserved N° 1/18 for you.

Le chronographe est indissociablement lié à l’histoire de la montre de sport. Il occupe donc naturellement une place à part dans la saga de la collection Royal Oak. Avec son nouveau diamètre de 41 mm, le boîtier en acier inoxydable du Chronographe Royal Oak affiche une taille très contemporaine et gagne en lisibilité tout en gardant tous les attributs qui ont fait de ce gardetemps une montre de légende. Typique de la collection, le cadran argenté présente un décor « Grande Tapisserie » façonné chez Audemars Piguet sur des machines anciennes selon la technique du ramolayage. Ce procédé rare et unique permet de réaliser simultanément la découpe des carrés ainsi que le maillage des fins sillons qui s’y glissent. Cette superposition de deux décorations, unique aux cadrans Royal Oak, leur donne un éclat incomparable. Egalement disponible avec un boîtier en or rose 18k associé à un cadran noir ou argenté.

The chronograph is inseparably linked to the history of the sportsman’s watch. It thus quite naturally occupies a place apart in the saga of the Royal Oak collection.

With its new diameter of 41 mm, the stainless steel case of the Royal Oak Chronograph proposes an up-to-the-minute size which gains in legibility while retaining all the attributes that have made this model a legendary watch. Typical of the collection, the silver-toned dial features a «Grande Tapisserie» pattern crafted by Audemars Piguet on old machines using the technique of «ramolayage». This rare and unique procedure allows the watchmaker to cut the squares while simultaneously creating the grid of fine grooves which encase them. This superimposition of two decorative features, unique to Royal Oak dials, gives them incomparable elegance. Also available in an 18-carat rose gold case teamed with a black or silvered dial.

Oceanographic 4000 King Gold White Hublot présente, en association avec le Musée Océanographique de Monaco, une montre de plongée capable de résister à la pression de 4000 mètres de profondeur.

Pour obtenir sa qualification de “montre de plongée“, la montre a dû répondre à des caractéristiques précises définies par les normes internationales de l’horlogerie suisse. A commencer par son étanchéité, testée chez Hublot, immergée et mise sous pression à une équivalence de 5000 mètres de profondeur. Pour garantir sa résistance à cette pression extrême, la glace saphir ne mesure pas moins de 6,5 mm. C’est une épaisseur plus importante qu’à la normale, mais qui reste toutefois relativement raisonnable à ce niveau de résistance. Le fond de boite est vissé, condition sine qua non pour atteindre les abysses. Il est réalisé en titane grade 2, matériau inoxydable extrêmement résistant. Son boîtier de 48 mm de diamètre au volume particulièrement puissant est réalisé en King Gold 18k.

Le principe de lecture a été sécurisé grâce au réhaut tournant à l’intérieur, unidirectionnel à crémaillère, avec indicateur de temps de plongée. La montre est équipée de deux couronnes vissées. La couronne de réhaut permet de calculer son temps de plongée. La seconde couronne qui permet le remontage, la mise à l’heure et la mise à la date est positionnée à 4h pour limiter l’encombrement.

Enfin, l’Océanographique 4000 comporte une valve à hélium, élément capital pour une utilisation en caisson de plongée car elle permet de laisser s’échapper sans risque les gaz qui se sont infiltrés dans la montre lors de la descente. Édition limitée à 100 exemplaires.

Oceanographic 4000 King Gold White In association with the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, Hublot presents a diver’s watch capable of resisting the pressure exerted at a depth of 4,000 metres.

To obtain its qualification as a “diver’s watch“, it has had to comply with precise specifications defined by international standards of Swiss watchmaking. Starting with its watertightness, tested by Hublot, submerged and subjected to pressure equivalent to a depth of 5,000 metres. To guarantee its watertightness under such extreme pressure, the sapphire crystal is no less than 6.5 mm thick. Thicker than normal, yet relatively reasonable at this level of resistance. The caseback is screwed on, a «sine qua non» at such impressive depths. It is made of grade 2 titanium, an extremely strong stainless material. Offering substantial volume, the 48-mm case is made of 18-carat King Gold.

Clear readability has been ensured by means of a rotating internal flange, unidirectional and rack-driven, with a dive-time indicator. The watch is fitted with two screw-down crowns : the flange crown allows the user to set his dive time, while the second crown used for winding, setting the time and date is positioned at 4 o’clock to avoid any obstruction.

Finally, the Oceanographic 4000 has a helium valve, an essential feature for use in diving chambers, as it allows gases that have infiltrated the watch during the descent to escape in all safety.

Octopus L’Octopus, qui tire son nom d’un géant des océans dont Jules Verne a fait un héros marquant de “Vingt mille lieues sous les mers“, est avant tout une montre sportive mais aussi de plongée. Elle est dotée de deux couronnes, la première à 9h pour la mise à l’heure et la seconde à 3h pour activer le dispositif de contrôle du temps de plongée.

Chaque détail de la montre fait écho au chiffre huit, clin d’œil au nombre de tentacules de l’animal. On retrouve ainsi huit vis à tête octogonale sur le boîtier de 46 mm ainsi que sur le fond de la montre étampé d’une pieuvre gravée à la main. Les couronnes à huit rivets sont vissées, garantissant ainsi une étanchéité à 888 pieds (270 mètres) pour chacun de ces modèles limités à 888 pièces. Autre détail, l’intérieur du bracelet en caoutchouc noir reprend le dessin des ventouses des tentacules d’une pieuvre.

Fidèle à la collection Titanic-DNA, la lunette crénelée contient de l’acier oxydé et stabilisé provenant du paquebot Titanic, un autre géant des mers. Le “X“ emblématique de la marque signe le cadran de l’Octopus aux finitions “brutes“, dont les traverses et les griffes ont été soigneusement satinées.

Octopus The Octopus, which gets its name from the giant of the oceans turned into a hero by Jules Verne in his novel «Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea», is above all a sports watch but also a genuine diver’s watch. It is fitted with two crowns, the first at 9 o’clock to set the time, the second at 3 o’clock to trigger the elapsed dive-time control.

Each detail on the watch makes reference to the number eight, recalling the number of tentacles. We thus find eight octagonal-head screws on the 46-mm case, and also on the back of the watch, stamped with a hand-engraved octopus. The screw-down crowns with their eight rivets guarantee watertightness to a depth of 888 feet (270 metres) for each of these models limited to 888 pieces. Another detail, the interior of the black rubber strap borrows the design of the suction cups found on the tentacles of an octopus.

True to the Titanic-DNA collection, the notched bezel contains oxidized and stabilized steel from the Titanic, another giant of the seas. The brand’s iconic «X» adorns the dial of the Octopus with its «raw» finish and carefully satin-brushed traverse struts and claws.

Designed to become a future pillar of the Romain Jerome sports collections, the Octopus is available in three versions : steel, black PVDcoated steel, and black PVD-coated steel with red gold.

Fleurier Amadeo Minute Repeater Tourbillon As you will recall, the Amadeo system invented by Bovet is a very ingenious and very reliable system whereby the wristwatch can be transformed into a pocket watch or miniature desk watch, or can be worn to show the front or reverse side of the case, all this without detracting from the watch’s original design. For the past two years, Bovet has applied this system to all the models in the Fleurier range. Except the minute repeater. A situation which has now been corrected, and very beautifully so.

In fact, Bovet chose one of its flagships of «Haute Horlogerie» with which to launch this new model. The Minute Repeater Tourbillon movement with reversed hands is housed in an Amadeo case in 18-carat white gold. The dial features blue lacquer applied to a very effectively chiselled gold plate.

On the reverse side of the watch, the fully skeletonized movement reveals a second set of hands ensuring easier reading of the time, should you want to wear the reverse side of the watch. Handwound mechanical movement.

Le boîtier Amadeo, en or rouge ou or blanc 18k, qui habille ce Tourbillon Grande Date, à l’instar de l’intégralité de la collection Fleurier, permet de transformer ce garde-temps en montre bracelet réversible, en montre de table ou en montre gousset par de simples manipulations sans nécessiter l’emploi d’un quelconque outil.

Le pivot supérieur du tourbillon porte une triple aiguille de secondes, garante de l’équilibre dynamique de ce dernier. Cette aiguille complète l’indication des heures et des minutes excentrées à 12h.

The Amadeo case in 18-carat red or white gold which adorns this Tourbillon Large Date, and indeed the entire Fleurier collection, allows this timepiece to be transformed into a reversible wristwatch, miniature table clock or pocket watch with a few simple manipulations requiring no tools whatsoever.

The tourbillon’s upper pivot has a triple seconds hand, guaranteeing its dynamic equilibrium. This hand completes the indication of the hours and minutes slightly off-centered at 12 o’clock.

The information is harmoniously distributed on a dial revealing the fascinating large date mechanism displayed in a generous circular aperture at 6 o’clock. L’émailleuse réalise sa pièce individuellement, du début à la fin, en utilisant son expérience et son style personnel. La noble tête d’un cheval favori, les couleurs exotiques d’un oiseau tropical, les ailes diaphanes d’un papillon, la beauté sauvage d’un animal de la jungle, toutes peuvent être répliquées sur un cadran DeLaneau. Véritables chefs-d’œuvre, ces miniatures sont créées en utilisant la technique notoirement difficile de l’émail Grand Feu. Les pièces sont cuites à une température avoisinant les 800 degrés Celsius afin de permettre aux couleurs vives de fusionner à la surface.

«Enamel» The «magic of fire» casts its spell : matter is transformed. From simple specks of enamel comes this smooth, shiny material. When removed from the kiln, the dial is «cherry red», the enamel undergoes a metamorphosis before our eyes, the colours change, appear more clearly, the pattern is revealed…

One of the trademarks of DeLaneau is its mastery of enamel, to which it gives particular importance. The creative passion of three artists, all women, burns as brightly as the kiln into which they slide the dials they produce. The enameller makes her model individually from start to finish, using her experience and her own personal style. She thus expresses the artistic dreams of clients throughout the entire process which takes, on average, over three months. Each accomplishment is acknowledged and signed by the artist.

The noble head of a favourite horse, the exotic colours of a tropical bird, the diaphanous wings of a butterfly, the wild beauty of a beast in the jungle…, can all be replicated on a DeLaneau dial. Genuine masterpieces, these miniatures are created using the notoriously difficult technique of «Grand Feu» enamelling. They are baked at a temperature close on 800° Celsius to allow the colours to enter into fusion on the surface.

Despite their dedication and mastery of this special know-how, the enamellers never tire of the shiver of excitement that is felt with each new creation, this precarious art whose existence depends on fire which can so easily become destructive.

As well as enriching its dials with the most refined enamelling, DeLaneau is also proud of the skills of its hand-engravers who work in tandem with the enamellers to create the enchanting designs which have become the icons of the brand. As for the final touch, it often takes the form of superb precious stones to give an ultimate spark of brilliance.

Traditional methods and tools are still employed to produce these made-to-measure creations. It is this devotion to handmade craftsmanship, individual design and an exceptional level of finish that guarantees that each DeLaneau creation is truly unique. Le Giga Tourbillon de la manufacture de Genthod a fait sensation dans le monde très fermé de la Haute Horlogerie. Mais comme à son habitude, Franck Muller ne s’arrête pas là et propose aujourd’hui une version entièrement sertie de diamants. Il ne s’agissait pas uniquement de sertir le boîtier en or rose 18k mais également la platine supérieure du mouvement et… Ce qui est très rare, la platine arrière. Prouesse technique car ces platines doivent garder, après le sertissage, des caractéristiques de résistance très strictes.

Complication fascinante, l’équation du temps a pour fonction de mesurer l’écart, exprimé en minutes, entre l’heure solaire et l’heure légale et universelle. En effet, l’heure telle que nous la donne le soleil, l’heure “vraie“ diffère en fonction du jour de l’année, ceci du fait que l’orbite parcourue par la Terre est elliptique et non circulaire.

Ce garde-temps dispose par ailleurs d’une autre complication de type astronomique : l’heure de lever et de coucher du soleil. It also disposes of an amazing power reserve of 336 hours, ie. 14 days, which is displayed near the bridge, clearly visible through the sapphire crystal back of the 18-carat rose gold case.

A truly fascinating complication, the purpose of the equation of time is to measure the difference, in minutes, between solar time and official universal time. In fact, the time as indicated by the sun, or «real» time, differs depending on the day of the year, and this because the orbit followed by the Earth is elliptical rather than circular.

This timepiece also disposes of another complication of an astronomical kind : the time of sunset and sunrise.

It enables the user to read these indications precisely in a given locality on Earth. The tourbillon, traditionally contained in a cage in the shape of the brand’s emblem, the Maltese Cross, rotates once a minute. Serving as a small second indicator, it is to be found at 6 o’clock. The perpetual calendar is a beautifully symmetrical presentation of the week, month and date. Finally, the leap-year indicator is discreetly positioned at 1 o’clock.

DeWitt est fier d’annoncer l’arrivée de l’Academia Tourbillon Imperial qui met l’accent sur la plus pure des complications : le chronographe à rattrapante, mécanisme extrêmement complexe d’un point de vue technique. Une interprétation unique du temps qui place côte à côte la lecture de l’heure et la mesure du temps. Ce garde-temps intègre un tourbillon, un chronographe à rattrapante, une phase de lune et la date.

Le mécanisme de chronographe à rattrapante consiste en deux aiguilles de chronographe superposées qui peuvent exécuter simultanément un nombre illimité d’opérations de chronométrage et de mesure de temps intermédiaire.

Dans la partie supérieure du cadran de l’Academia, une fenêtre à 11h s’ouvre sur le mécanisme du tourbillon et ses rotations délicates. En arrière, un décor guilloché dans des tons noirs apporte de la profondeur. Le centre du cadran est occupé, de 3h à 9h, par une applique en couleur Rhodium blanc ornée de deux arcs de triomphe. Le compteur de chronographe 30 minutes de couleur argenté, placé à 3h, fait face au compteur 60 secondes à 9h. Les chiffres sont quant à eux imprimés à la main. Pour finir l’affichage du quantième, la phase de lune est positionnée à 6h. Le quantième est également décalqué à la main, sur un disque, tandis que la lune et les étoiles sont finement peintes en jaune sur un ciel bleu nuit. DeWitt is proud to announce the arrival of the Academia Tourbillon Imperial which places the emphasis on the purest of all complications : the chronograph «à rattrapante», an extremely complex mechanism from a technical point of view. A unique interpretation of time which combines reading of the time with its measurement. This timepiece incorporates a tourbillon, chronograph «à rattrapante», phases of the moon and the date.

The mechanism of the chronograph «à rattrapante» consists of two superimposed chronograph hands which can simultaneously perform an unlimited number of time-keeping operations and intermediate measurements of time. In the upper part of the Academia’s dial, a window at 11 o’clock shows the tourbillon mechanism and its delicate rotations. In the background, a guilloché decor in shades of black gives added depth. From 3 to 9 o’clock, the centre of the dial is covered by an appliqué in a white Rhodium colour, adorned by two «Arcs de Triomphe». The silver-toned 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock faces the the 60-second counter at 9 o’clock. The numerals are all hand-printed. To complete the calendar display, the phases of the moon are placed at 6 o’clock.

The calendar is also traced by hand on a disc, while the moon and stars are meticulously painted in yellow on a dark blue sky. In this part of the dial, time advances more slowly… Without losing any of its magnificence !

All Nicolas Rieussec calibres have one thing in common : they measure intervals of time as per their creator’s principle which is based on the use of rotating discs and fixed hands. This particular construction gives Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec chronographs their characteristic appearance, further emphasized by the offcenter dial and iconic bridge which serves as a support for the rotating discs. Yet these calibres can also claim a close technical relationship with their illustrious ancestor. They in fact have a column wheel, vertical disc clutch, double cylinder, 72-hour power reserve, date display and a single push-piece. These movements are now available in three versions including the automatic MB R200 and MB R210 calibres which propose a second time zone fonction and day/night indication.

Chronograph Open Home Time The last-born in the Nicolas Rieussec Collection complements the now familiar appearence of the two rotating discs and a single push-piece by adding a new item : a third disc to show the time in the user’s usual place of residence (Home Time).

The complex interaction between the three discs ensures unique esthetics for this watch with 3-dimensional depth. The day/night display in a small window at 9 o’clock is synchronized with the Home Time, while the window for the date at 3 o’clock correlates to local time. On a trip through various time zones, the traveller can easily adjust local time by leaps of one hour, which can also take a change in the date into consideration. Throughout the operation, the hour hand is disconnected from the movement so that its progression is not influenced by any setting of the time. Thus, when the time is altered, the second hand pursues its course imperturbably.

Blending simplicity with sporty elegance, the Luminor Titanio is endowed with a satin-brushed titanium case 47 mm in diameter. It also features the classic lever device which hermetically seals the winding crown, ensuring watertightness up to 100 metres. Composed of two superimposed plates containing a layer of Super Luminova, the model’s black dial enhances the readability of the round and baton hour markers under poor light conditions. The minute counter is placed at 3 o’clock, the second counter at 9 o’clock. As for the split-seconds function, it consists of two superimposed hands : the first sets the chronograph, the second allows the user to measure partial time or another event at the same time as the first.

The self-winding mechanical movement comes with an 8-day power reserve whose linear display at 6 o’clock on the dial enables the wearer to check the remaining power.

At the heart of this timepiece beats a self-regulating gyroscopic mechanism which is in fact one of the major advances in 21st-century watchmaking. Based on the principle that keeping the regulating device in a horizontal position ensures the best possible amplitude for the balance wheel and thus the utmost precision for timekeeping, Zenith has designed a revolutionary system whereby the regulating device and escapement are permanently held in this position giving «Gravity Control».

Le cadran saphir, sur lequel les index des heures de type chiffres romains sont gravés au laser, laisse apparaître le mécanisme de ce garde-temps dévoilant ainsi le fonctionnement de l’affichage surdimensionné de la date, via deux disques squelettés, dans une ouverture horizontale audessous de 12h. La date peut être aisément corrigée grâce au bouton poussoir situé à 10h.

La RM037 dispose également d’un sélecteur de fonction. Il suffit d’actionner le poussoir situé à 4h pour sélectionner d’une simple pression le remontage, la mise à l’heure ou la position neutre. Le mode sélectionné apparaît dans une ouverture à 4h : W (winding, remontage) – N (neutral, neutre) – H (hand setting, mise à l’heure). Ce nouveau rotor à géométrie variable permet d’adapter le remontage automatique à l’activité pratiquée.

Son boîtier tripartite assemblé au moyen de 20 vis « Spline » en titane, est disponible en titane, or rouge et or gris.

The sapphire dial, on which the hour markers in Roman numeral form have been engraved by laser, allows us to view the mechanism of this timepiece by revealing the functioning of the oversized date display by means of two skeletonized discs, in a horizontal aperture just below 12 o’clock. The date can easily be changed thanks to the push-button at 10 o’clock.

The RM037 also comes with a function selector. The wearer simply has to press the push-button at 4 o’clock to select winding, time-setting or the neutral position. The chosen function appears in an aperture at 4 o’clock : W (winding) – N (neutral) – H (hand setting). Thanks to the new rotor with a variable geometry system, automatic winding can be adapted to suit the activity being pursued.

Assembled with 20 titanium «Spline» screws, the tripartite case is available in titanium, red or grey gold.
