A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Dear reader, It has been two years since the last Sustain‐

but not less important news, such as the purchase of a new printing machine with more sustainable technology or monitoring the environmental parameters even more. The aim of Kroonpress is to offer a highquality service in the most environmentally friendly way. Life and economy are going through ups and downs and it is already clear that 2020 will certainly be a challenging year due to the coronavirus. It challenges many companies and affects the way people work and live. However, we must keep our minds positive and tests negative. Regardless of the virus or the economic situation, we can still move towards lower CO2 emissions. This Sustainability Report

ACHIEVEMENTS IN SUSTAINABILITY Greenline Print report Greenline Print calculated 125 carbon foot‐ prints in 2019. The majority (71%) of labels was in class A or A+. It means that these are car‐ bon negative products because the paper fiber contains more carbon dioxide than is emitted during the production phase. The class B prints are carbon neutral because the emissions from the production are compar‐ able to the carbon content of the printed paper fiber. All together we printed 8,2 million copies of Greenline Print labelled

prints in 2019. In fact, 89 of all labels we graded were either A or A+. We are happy that we were able to issue so many labels with a negative carbon footprint last year.

Kindergarten donations Kroonpress belongs to Estonian Printing and Packaging Industry Association (EPPA) which organized kindergarten paper donations in 2019. They started this campaign in 2018 and hopefully it will continue the following years. Last year Kroonpress donated 95 reels of quality newsprint to local kindergartens in Tartu. We are doing our best to reach even
more kindergartens in 2020 as we are planning a marketing campaign before the donations day this year. All together the EPPA members donated over 100 kilometers of paper in 2019.

Paper waste and wastewater
PAPER WASTES
Paper wastes have been stable in general. The newspapers and paper filings are showing
decrease but aim of this year is to reduce

average waste 1-5%. The paper rolls wastes have been increased a little bit. We are plan ning a larger campaign this year for local

kindergartens so they can use the paper rolls for handcraft. This way we can help children
with the quality paper and reduce paper waste.

being environmentally friendly. The larger production area has more space (5049 m2) for new investments.
14
TARGETS FOR 2020 The 2020 will be an expeditious and in‐ novative year for Kroonpress. Many of the large investments are showing the results this year.
New sheet-fed press Probably the most important for our produc‐ tion is the new LED-UV sheet-fed press – Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106-8+L which arrived in July. New press is equipped with 8 printing units and WB/UV varnish unit. The activation time will be about 3 months and the real output will be a year. The new printer has sensors that control the need of chemical substances and add according the necessity. Also it uses less water and releases 100% less NMVOC due to innovative washing agent.

next 10 years. Kroonpress always want to offer the stable print quality and achieve even more high efficiency of raw materials. In cooperation with Q.I. Press Controls (QIPC) the 5 mRC-3D cameras for color register, cutoff register and sheeter- register were installed on the Goss M600 and 2 IDS-3D cameras for color Control on the existing KBA Compacta. Furthermore, the new automation system helps to prevent paper wastes because of faster start-ups. Whereas the new systems were installed at the end of 2019, the results
will be described on next Sustainability Report.

Last year the kindergarten donation was organized by Estonian Printing and Pack‐ aging Industry Association and Kroon‐ press donated 95 reels of quality news‐ print. We started to use IBC containers as a reusable packaging for the dangerous

The expansion of production was opened in 2018. There are 5049 m2 more pro‐ duction space now. 2020 will be an innovative year and many of investments are showing the results.
