pattern design collection
original block print using swiss pattern
Swiss is a collection of surface designs generated from typography and shapes, and draws inspiration from the International Typographic style, and the Memphis Group.
SWISS PINTEREST INSPIRATION I created a Swiss and Memphis inspired book because I was inspired by the bold colors, contrast in colors, and simple shapes from poster and packaging designs. These images to the right are images from my pinterest board in which I was inspired from! My pinterest board can be found here, www.pinterest.com/ kangaroo1996/swiss-style.

COLOR CHALLENGES & EXPERIMENTATION One of the challenges was simplifying my use of color. I limited myself to uses 2 to 4 colors each for each pattern. I experimented with imagery such as glyphs from Helvetica Neue and simple shapes such as squares and circles. Another form of experimentation was deleting parts of the pattern to create illusions. I also explored with grids, shadows, and lines the Memphis inspired patterns.
CONTEXTUAL ILLUSTRATION For the patterns that were created, I envisioned them as interior designs in bedrooms, living rooms, and bathrooms! The patterns could be on posters, comforters, blankets, wall art, shower curtains, rags, wallpapers, floors and more.
