O
gród Wincentego Kućmy, niewielki skrawek ziemi przyległej do domu i pracowni, to miejsce samo w sobie niezwykle ekscytujące, miejsce w którym można zobaczyć rzecz osobliwą. Otóż Artysta, który w swojej codziennej pracy twórczej eksploruje naturę z niespotykaną determinacją, wydzierając od niej inspiracje, podpatrując kształty, obserwując jej bogactwo i natychmiast tłumacząc na swój własny język wyrazu poprzez fotografię, rysunek czy rzeźbę – tu, w tym ogrodzie, zwraca naturze wykradzione formy. Organiczne „Dojrzewanie” daje zatem swój obfity plon, a „Ptak” wiecznie trwa w swym locie. Dialog pozostaje podtrzymany: pająk korzysta z pomocy „Zespolonych” i do odlanej z brązu formy dopisuje nowe wątki tkane pajęczą nicią. Licząca blisko pół wieku „Nastolatka” rozkwitła na nowo wspaniałą patyną strojąc się w nowe kreacje jakie ofiaruje jej rosnący opodal cis, drgające źdźbła trawy pozwalają „Fontannie” płynąć, a wszystkiemu temu przypatrują się z ukrycia wścibskie „Sąsiadki”… Wincenty Kućma nie tworzy form oderwanych od otoczenia. Wielkie, monumentalne realizacje pomnikowe, ale także te małe rzeźby, nie biorą się znikąd i najlepiej czują się gdy wracają do miejsc, z których kiedyś wyszły. Twórczość tego Artysty wymaga kontekstu otoczenia by mogła przemówić pełnym głosem. Dlatego takie dzieła jak „Pasierbiecka Droga Krzyżowa” wymagały olbrzymiej aranżacji przestrzennej jako dopełnienia swego wyrazu. Autor pozostaje człowiekiem zaborczym, któremu nie wystarczy cokół do ustawienia rzeźby w klinicznie białych przestrzeniach galerii. On potrzebuje ziemi, krzewów, drzew i nieba wraz z ptakami, by razem ze swymi rzeźbami tworzyły jedność. Wiem co mówię, znam Wincentego Kućmę od małego - to mój Ojciec. ///

he garden of Wincenty Kućma, a small patch of land adjacent to his house and atelier, is a place vibrant with almost tangible excitement, populated with all sorts of curious objects. The Artist, quite determined in his daily quest for inspiration to explore nature to the limits and even beyond, keeps on spying on the rich diversity of its forms and shapes, only to have them captured and immediately translated into his very own language of artistic expression, be that through photography, drawings or sculpture, and then quite spontaneously give it all back, as if quietly communing with its spirit.
The organic „Ripening” yields then a plentiful crop, while “The Bird” remains arrested in mid-flight forever. It looks as though there has been an on-going dialogue between different objects throughout this garden: a spider plots his web anchoring it at the “United We Stand”, and then keeps on adding on a brand new yarn to the original story already cast in bronze. An almost 50-year “Teenage Girl” comes anew into a radiant bloom, its patina making it look as if she was donning on new clothes, the nearby yew tree setting them off in colourful splendour; the windswept motion of the grass allows “The Fountain” to keep its flow, whilst everything remains under watchful scrutiny of the prying “Next Door Neighbours” ... Wincenty Kućma does not really indulge in any forms that might in any way be divorced from reality, or even cast away from their immediate environment. The large-scale monuments, but also the small-sized sculptures do not come about from nowhere, and they do indeed look their best when they are returned to their home turf. His sculptures always need to be put into the deep context of their surroundings to fully express themselves and emotionally reach out to the
viewers. And it is precisely for this very reason that “The Pasierbiec Way of the Cross” needed a large-scale, complex landscaping project to be completed around it first before it could properly be set off in its true spatial appeal. The Artist himself seems to be extremely possessive by nature, and so he would not easily be satisfied by having his sculptures put up on a plinth in the clinically sterile spaces of an art gallery. He needs a truly earthy setting for them instead, plenty of rugged greenery around, and the open skies above with lots of chirping birds, so that it all blends into one another, thus bringing about a perfect unity. A sculptor, born on May 25, 1935, in Zbilutka (presently: Zbelutka), a village near Kielce, Poland. In the period spanning 1957 – 1962 he pursued and completed his graduate studies at the Faculty of Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts, Kraków, Poland, in the Atelier of Prof. Wanda Ślędzińska, his artistic mentor.
artysta rzeźbiarz, urodzony 25 maja 1935 roku w Zbilutce (obecnie Zbelutka) na Kielecczyznie. W latach 1957-1962 studiował na Wydziale Rzeźby ASP w Krakowie, w pracowni prof. Wandy Ślędzińskiej.
As a fully fledged artist he has been involved with drawing, medal minting, free-standing small sculpture, as well as in designing the large-scale memorial projects, interiors of ecclesiastical edifices and urban spaces. In 1967 he commenced his academic teaching career at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where, until his retirement in 2000, he headed the Atelier of Spatial Design and Development, Dept. of Visual Arts, Faculty of Industrial Design. In 1995 he was granted full professorship. He has exhibited his works at over 37 individual and 80 collective exhibitions throughout Poland, and at approximately 60 exhibitions abroad. His participation in numerous contests in the domain of sculpture and architectural design yielded him over 50 prestigious awards and a diversity of accolades. He has been awarded, inter alia, the Order of Polonia Restituta (Order of Rebirth of Poland), Second Class (Commander’s Cross with a Star), Gold Medal of Gloria Artis, awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for outstanding merit in the promotion of national culture, Gold Medal of the Holy Father John Paul II, and also the St. Brother Albert Award for artistic achievements in the field of patriotic and ecclesiastical sculpture.
In 1999, he was granted the Award, First Class, of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for his outstanding lifetime achievements as an artist cum academic teacher, in association with his own peers from the Dept. of Visual Arts, Academy of Fine Arts, Kraków. In 2000, Pope John Paul II bestowed upon him the Equitem Commendatorem Ordinis Sancti Gregorii Magni Order (Pontifical Equestrian Order of St. Gregory, The Great) for his lifetime achievements in the domain of ecclesiastical arts. The award of this prestigious accolade to a large extent must have been prompted by his substantial contribution to the actual design of the Catholic Cathedral in the Siberian city of Irkutsk, Russia. There are dozens of examples of ecclesiastical design that boast his personal mark and may be appreciated throughout Poland in over 60 churches, e.g. in Kraków, Dębica, Brzesko, Krościenko, Wola Radziszowska, Olkusz, and abroad, e.g. in Irkutsk and in the Sakhalin peninsula, Russia. He also supervised the actual construction of many memorial monuments, e.g. “The Defenders of Polish Post Office” in Gdańsk, „Fallen in the Defence of the Motherland 1939-1945” in Częstochowa, „The Warsaw Uprising of 1944” in Warsaw, and „The Home Army” in Kielce.
In 2010, following a twelve-year toil, he eventually completed one of his major life projects, i.e. “The Pasierbiec Way of the Cross”, commissioned for the Sanctuary of the Mother of God of Comfort. His works can be appreciated in the prized collections of the National Museums in Kraków, Warsaw and Poznań, medal-minting museums in Wrocław and Barcelona, Spain, Museum of Fine Arts, Sofia, Bulgaria, Dante Museum, Ravenna, Italy, The Nicolas Copernicus Museum, Frombork, and in the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków. Prowadzi działalność artystyczną w zakresie rysunku, medalierstwa, małych form rzeźbiarskich, a także projektowania i realizacji rozwiązań pomnikowych, wnętrz sakralnych oraz przestrzeni urbanistycznych. W 1967 roku rozpoczął pracę dydaktyczno-naukową w krakowskiej ASP, gdzie do momentu przejścia na emeryturę w 2000 roku kierował Pracownią Przestrzeni w Katedrze Sztuk Wizualnych na Wydziale Form Przemysłowych. W 1995 roku otrzymał tytuł profesora zwyczajnego.
W roku 1999 otrzymał nagrodę I stopnia Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego za wybitne osiągnięcia w pracy twórczej i dydaktycznej z zespołem Katedry Sztuk Wizualnych na Wydziale Form Przemysłowych ASP w Krakowie. W 2000 roku został uhonorowany „Eqvitem Commendatorem Ordinis Sancti Gregorii Magni” - orderem Grzegorza Wielkiego, nadanym mu przez Papieża za działalność w dziedzinie sztuki sakralnej, do czego w dużej mierze przyczyniła się realizacja Katedry w Irkucku na Syberii.
Swoje prace eksponował na ponad 37 wystawach indywidualnych, 80 wystawach zbiorowych w kraju i ok. 60 wystawach za granicą. Brał udział w wielu konkursach rzeźbiarsko - architektonicznych uzyskując ponad 50 nagród i wyróżnień.
Realizacje sakralne autorstwa Wincentego Kućmy znajdują się w ponad 60 kościołach w Polsce i na świecie, m.in. w Krakowie, Dębicy, Brzesku, Krościenku, Woli Radziszowskiej, Olkuszu, Irkucku i na Sachalinie.
W 2010 roku, po dwunastu latach ukończył pracę nad Pasierbiecką Drogą Krzyżową dla Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Pocieszenia. Prace artysty znajdują się w zbiorach Muzeów Narodowych w Krakowie, Warszawie, Poznaniu, w muzeach sztuki medalierskiej we Wrocławiu i Barcelonie, w Muzeum Sztuki w Sofii, Muzeum Dantego w Rawennie, Muzeum Mikołaja Kopernika we Fromborku oraz Muzeum Historycznym m. Został odznaczony m.in. Orderem Polonia Restituta II kl. Komandorskim z Gwiazdą, Złotym Medalem „Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis”, Złotym Medalem Ojca Świętego Jana Pawła II oraz nagrodą im. św. Brata Alberta za twórczość w dziedzinie rzeźby patriotycznej i sakralnej.
Zrealizował również pomniki, m.in. „Obrońców Poczty Polskiej” w Gdańsku, „Poległym w Obronie Ojczyzny 1939-1945” w Częstochowie, „Powstania Warszawskiego 1944” w Warszawie, „Armii Krajowej” w Kielcach.
