Which crowns will be worn?

Charles III will be crowned with the St Edward’s Crown and will then wear the Imperial State Crown after the ceremony.

The queen consort will be crowned with Queen Mary’s Crown. This is the first time an existing crown has been reused for a queen consort.

This crown was chosen instead of the Queen Mother’s Crown which contains the Koh-i-Noor diamond. India, Pakistan,Afghanistan and Iran have all claimed ownership of the Koh-i-Noor diamond in recent years.

The oil has been consecrated (made sacred) This signifies covenant and agreement between the King and Queen and God and of duty and service to people
