Week ending: Friday 9 November 2018

“Our vision is to be the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be.

Message from the Head of School The school wanted to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War. All the students and staff joined together on the playground at 11am for a 2 minute silence. It was an incredibly reflective and respectful occasion with 1400 people standing together in silence. Please do read some of the poetry written by our Year 7 students to commemorate this historic event included in this bulletin. They have shown empathy and respect beyond their years, whilst remembering those that sacrificed their lives for the freedoms that we hold true today.

On Thursday evening, we celebrated the outstanding achievements of many of our Year 10 students; who were presented with awards for their success in their learning journey during Key Stage 3 (years 7 to 9). I was delighted to be joined on the stage by their Year Progress Leader, Miss Reed, our Chair of the Local Governing Body, Mr Barritt and the Town Mayor of Loughton, Mr Murray. We rewarded outstanding attainment at the very highest grades, exceptional progress from individual starting points and positive effort shown. I am very proud of all our students and look forward to be able to supporting them right through to their A levels. The details of all of the winners and their awards are included in this bulletin. I would like to invite all Year 11 and Year 10 to our Sixth Form Open Evening on Wednesday 14th November from 5pm to 7pm. Please do come along, meet the new Director of Sixth Form Miss Wheaton, visit our first class teaching facilities and find out about our new exciting curriculum offer from our current sixth form students. We are an academic Sixth Form, our 2018 results showed significant improvements in our A level results and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). We offer outstanding pastoral support, careers guidance and leadership opportunities which enhance future CVs and UCAS applications. Our students currently enjoy participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme; have the opportunity to become a Youth Leader of Sport, taking part in community activities, mentoring our younger students and being House Captains. I look forward to meeting you there in the new Brook Building from 5pm; the talk which is at 6pm will be in the Main Hall.
