The next time we will see our Year 11 students will be on Tuesday 2nd July for their Leaving Assembly and then their Prom in the evening. Our Year 13 students will be sitting their final exam on Wednesday 19th June and will be returning for their Leaving Assembly and Prom on Wednesday 26th June. I would like to remind our students that the dates of the results day this year is as follows:

A Level Results Day: Thursday 15th August

Congratulations to Igor Dasuzhau Year 13, who has been accepted to study Biological Natural Sciences at Churchill College, Cambridge University. Igor follows in the footsteps of fellow student Olivia Tinker who went on to study at Selwyn College in 2017. Please click on this link for the press release. On Wednesday, residents from Poets place were invited into our school to spend time supporting our students with their literacy skills. It was fantastic to see our students being an absolute credit to our school.

Some lovely reading, enjoyment and focus! Thank you to Mrs Lafferty for arranging this opportunity for our students. This week we held the interviews for the House Leaders positions in Year 7 to 10 for 2019-20. Thank you to all of the students that applied, your applications were quite inspiring! The new House Leaders will be in place in time to support the Sport’s Day; interviews are with the newly appointed House Captains.

460pts

The winners of the House Captains that were announced during Friday’s Sixth Form Assembly are as follows: Churchill: Aliya Silverstone and Chris Contantinou Hawking: Anna Vidojevic and Thomas Rolfe Murray: Lara Safa and Thomas Abbott Pankhurst: Jessica Overett and Aaron Boparai Rendell: Jamie-Leigh Coates and Callum Carr Congratulations to all students selected. The overwhelming majority of our students are a true credit to the school and I was delighted to receive an email from Mrs Bloor congratulating our students, Ethan Dignam and Natasha Halliday for the support they provided at a local event. Ethan and Natasha gave up their Saturday on May 18th to help on our Teens Unite Stall in Loughton High Street, spreading awareness and collecting donations from the public. Mrs Bloor went on to say that they are a credit to the school. Well done Ethan and Natasha, we are proud of the dedication you have shown to supporting the local community. Thank you to all of the parents that supported the school by correcting their child's school uniform this week. As I have previously mentioned, our uniform is exemplary and I would like it to remain so. At Roding Valley High School, we are constantly striving to improve the level of education and all round experience that we offer our students. As parents, your feedback is vital in this process of self-evaluation and helping to inform me of appropriate changes. Please could you spare 5 minutes to complete our Parent Feedback Questionnaire. Please click on this link to the Questionnaire. Can I remind parents that the school is closed to students from 1.20pm on Tuesday 25th June for essential staff training. Food will be served at break time as normal and students are expected to be dressed in full school uniform. Enjoy the rest of the bulletin, we are a great school with truly, excellent students. Kind regards Mrs. Sharon Jenner Headteacher

This week our students were given the opportunity

This week, our Art and Photography Department held their annual GCSE and A Level Art Summer Exhibition. We welcomed all of the students and their parents to see the end results of their hard work over the last 18 months including all of their coursework, the exam final pieces and all of the preparatory sketchbooks. Every year we are amazed and inspired by the work that our students produce, but this year perhaps even more than ever before, we were inundated with positive comments. Some of the staff and parents were simply stunned by the quality of the work on display! We even had tears of joy from one proud mum. Many thanks to Mr Baidoo, Mrs Costello, Miss Kalair and Mr Day for their dedicated and inspirational work with all of our students. Particular thanks and congratulations go to all of our talented artists, who now await their August results. Written by Mr D Tisdale

Message from Mr Dobson It is hard to think that we are approaching the end of their first year in High school. It has been a year of many highlights and successes. The ‘Attitude to Learning’ from the students has been exceptional and is reflected in their final report which parents and carers will be receiving very soon. On Thursday, I visited the Essex Outdoors site on Mersea and checked out the facilities. It looks great, even though the weather this week has been rather windy and with lots of rain, it did not stop any of the activities from going ahead. The food I sampled was excellent and the staff were very positive. Some of the children I spoke to were having a fantastic time and highlighted the high ropes as a particular favourite. I would like to remind parents that our Year 8 trip is on July 1st to July 3rd and our Year 7 go between July 8th and 10th. The Residential Information Evening is on June 20th at 6:30pm in the Sports Hall, vital information will be provided to parents and I will be available to answer any questions. I have included again relevant information regarding the equipment and kit your child will need to take with them below. You can always visit their website for further information: https://www.essexoutdoors.com/mersea.php

Message from Miss Williams I am very fortunate to have such a talented group of year 8 students who have many interests, hobbies and strengths. I have included a celebration of just a few this week below. As year 8's are soon to become year 9, it is vital that they maintain the high expectations that are expected of them in lessons and around school. This includes ensuring that they are wearing their uniform smartly, are fully equipped for every lesson, arrive punctually to school and lessons, interact positively with their peers and staff and complete all classwork and homework to the best of their ability.

Message from Mr Ryan It has been another busy week for year 9 with the GCSE courses well underway. It is lovely to see so many children really focused and enjoying their new courses. I would ask that if you haven't already purchased the equipment that your child may need for the courses they are studying, i.e.: texts for English and a camera for photography and you need help with this, please contact the school and we will be happy to help. Congratulations to 9X for winning the attendance breakfast. now that the GCSEs have started it is essential that the students are in school as any time off could result in them missing vital parts of the course. Mr Wilson gave a very informative lecture this week on the Music Business and the process of creating a band and getting a record produced and marketed, without being able to play an instrument. The boys who attended the lecture enjoyed it thoroughly. Finally, I would like to remind students that even though we are coming to the end of the academic year our uniform expectations remain the same. Mrs Jenner made this clear in last week's bulletin. Please remember that knee length socks are not allowed, along with coloured nails and extremes of hair style.

Message from Miss Reed Year 10 are in full swing with their ‘End of Year Exams’ with all Option Subject examinations taking place at the moment. I am really pleased with how the students have conducted themselves throughout the week and looking forward to the outcomes, which I am confident will be pleasing. There is lots going on for Year 10 over the next couple of weeks with firstly their Careers Week, which begins with a Drop-Down Day, where our students will spend the day writing up their CV, which they have been drafting during Period 1. Following on from that, they have the ‘Take your Child to Work Day’. Please can I remind those students who do not have a placement that they must return the letter sent out this week regarding an alternative option. Finally, we have our Year 10 A Level Taster Day, where our students will have the opportunity to experience four different A Level subjects in preparation for their Sixth Form Applications.
