Last night’s Year 10 Parents’ Evening was very well attended and I would like to thank all the parents who attended for their support. The feedback from parents, staff and students was incredibly positive and we are hopeful of great things from this year group. I had a number of queries last night relating to our 6th form provision. Following a meeting I attended last Monday night the bid has made its way through the Education Funding agency and is now with the Minister at the Department of Education. Whilst we were not given any guarantees of the success of the bid we were told that a decision would be forthcoming shortly so I am confident that we will know one way or the other very soon. As the temperatures start to rise as we move into what, hopefully, will be a glorious summer, could I please remind parents that our uniform regulations stay the same. Students are required to wear a blazer throughout the year. If the weather is exceptionally hot we will inform students and parents that they do not need to bring a blazer to school, but this will be a temporary measure. Please ensure that your child brings water to school to keep themselves hydrated throughout the day and also please ensure that your child wears sunscreen if appropriate. I would also like to bring to parental attention an issue that has made national press around the misuse of nitrous oxide (or ‘laughing gas’). Whilst the gas is not illegal and is used in a wide variety of commercial products, it is being misused by some youngsters who are inhaling it and potentially putting themselves in danger by doing so. I would like to assure parents that this is not a school related issue but one which I feel parents need to be aware of in order to help safeguard their children out of school. I have attached a link that will give parents more information: http://www.talktofrank.com/drug/nitrous-oxide#aka=Laughing+Gas On 1st July until 4th July one of our ex-students, Ryan Mehigan, and his mum will be climbing Mount Olympus, the highest peak in Greece, to raise money for Norwood, a fantastic charity supporting people with learning disabilities and children and families in need. If you would like to sponsor them then please click on the link below: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserPage.action? userUrl=TeamMehigan&faId=408677&isTeam=true The next Meeting of the Parents’ Forum takes place on Thursday 15th May at 6pm in the school hall and I would like to extend an invitation to all parents to attend. Please remember that Monday is a Bank Holiday and school will resume on Tuesday 6th May at the normal time. I would like to wish everyone a good weekend. Paul Banks Headteacher
