The school was incredibly busy last night with our Year 7 Parents’ Evening. There is normally a great atmosphere at our parents’ evenings but this one was exceptional. The sheer amount of positive feedback from teachers, parents and students meant that there were some very happy Year 7 students last night. Well done to everyone in Year 7 who attended and thanks to the parents for their continued support. I would also like to thank a group of our students who helped raise £780 for charity in memory of one of our former students who tragically recently passed away following a long battle with illness. The boys took part in a sponsored fun run to raise money for the ‘Ray of Sunshine’ charity and did an amazing job in raising so much. We will, as a school, also be raising funds for the charity later in the year and the £780 raised by the boys will be added together with what we raise to hopefully give the charity a sizeable donation. You can find more about the boys fundraising at: http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/ news/11226170.Teenager_raises___780_in_memory_of_best_friend_s_sister/ We are also preparing for our Year 7 and 8 residential trips which are running in the first two weeks after the half term holiday and I am sure everyone participating will have an amazing time. Congratulations go to Conor Tyrrell (9T) and Harry Francis (9Q) who both received their county ‘caps’ last week following their continued representation of Essex at football. Caps are given for players who make 10 appearances for their county and both boys have achieved this milestone. Congratulations also to Freddie Hatton (11U) who narrowly missed out on selection for England Under 16s at Rugby. Freddie also represents his county and the South of England at Rugby. Representation at this level is extremely competitive and we are very proud of the boys. As the warmer weather has arrived, I would like to remind parents that our uniform regulations are in force and that students who do not follow them will be sent home and not allowed to return to school until the problem has been rectified. Please ensure that your child brings their blazer to school every day and wears the appropriate footwear. Parents of female students should also note that skirts must be worn below the knee at all times. Next week is the half term holiday, however the school is open for those staff and students attending the Year 11 revision sessions. School resumes for all students after the holiday on Monday 2nd June 2014 at the normal time. I wish you all a good half term break. Paul Banks Headteacher
