2011 Season Outlook The 2011 Ottawa University® softball team’s goal, to capture a second straight KCAC Champship and to qualify for the NAIA Softball National Tournament for the second straight season. That goal is within their reach with the returning of five starters on defense, their top two pitchers, and a strong belief that they can accomplish their goal.

Pitching The Lady Braves return their top two pitchers from last year, junior Ashley Renaldi and sophomore Morgan Beckler. Both were named All-KCAC last season with Beckler being named to the first team and Renaldi picking up second team honors. Beckler was also named KCAC Newcomer of the Year. Overall the depth is the best that the OU softball program has had according to head coach Jay Kahnt, “I can go four or five deep this year and feel comfortable with whoever is on the mound.”

Infield The Lady Braves lose a four year starter and a four-time All-KCAC selection at

shortstop, Ashley Mundy to graduation but Kahnt feels that with the returners they should be able to fill the void. “We have our first baseman, second baseman, and our third baseman returning and all three of those are upper classmen. We also have two good sophomores competing for that shortstop position so we feel that our infield will be a strength and that we should have one of the top overall defenses in our conference.”

Outfield The OU outfield did lose an All-KCAC performer in right field but returns OU’s first NFCA All-American in program history, Lindsey Tuter in left field. She also earned NFCA First Team All-Midwest and was named First Team All-KCAC. Returning at center field is NFCA Second Team All-Midwest and First-Team All-KCAC selection, Myah Sprew. “Both Lindsey and Myah have great speed and can cover the outfield as well as anybody,” said Kahnt. “We have a couple of other girls competing for the right field position that have above average speed so not too many balls should get by our outfielders.

Catchers There is a good competition going on between transfer Lyndsay Swafford, returner Michelle Bowman and freshman Carrie Wilson. The Lady Braves did lose Lori Ewalt to graduation last year but Kahnt feels that these three ladies will step up to take her place. “Lori was a great leader and her leadership on and off the softball diamond will be missed but we feel that with the three catchers that are vying for the job we will be able to find her replacement.”

Offense Again like last year the Lady Braves will

Myah Sprew be very fast and try to steal bases. “Our philosophy is to play the small ball, get some extra base hits, and do the little things to win the game,” said Kahnt.

Schedule The 2011 schedule will get the Lady Braves ready for the KCAC. OU will play Sooner Athletic Conference opponents Southern Nazarene University, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Softball Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll, and Oklahoma Christian University, who defeated no. 23 ranked Baylor University last season. “The Sooner Athletic Conference might be the best softball conference in the country in the NAIA,” said Kahnt.

“By playing those teams we are getting a taste of what we will be facing at nationals.” The Lady Braves will play the 21st ranked Pioneers of MidAmerica Nazarene University twice this season. “MidAmerica is the defending HAAC Champions and a national tournament team from last year.

They will be a good test for us.” The Lady Braves will also play tough competition in the form of Mount Mercy College, William Jewell College and national tournament qualifier, Bellevue University.

SENIOR - INFIELDER - 5-3 RANTOUL, KAN. - WELLISVILLE Entering her senior season Higbie is ranked 10th in the OU record books in slugging percentage (.349), sixth in career walks (31), fifth in career at bats (367), seventh in career hits (110), eighth in doubles (16), fourth in runs scored (93), and eighth in games played (125).

2010: Higbie played and started in all 37 games her junior season.

She had a batting average of .228 with 21 hits, 20 runs scored, four doubles, and nine RBI. Higbie had a slugging percentage of .272 and an on base percentage of .294. She was 8-for-9 in stolen base attempts. She had her first multi-hit game of the season versus the University of Science and Arts (3/5), and had a season high two RBIs versus Kansas Wesleyan University (4/17). Because of her play on the softball diamond, Higbie earned Second Team AllKCAC honors.

2009: Higbie played in 43 games, starting 42 on her way to earning Honorable Mention All-KCAC as a sophomore at second base. She hit .326 with 46 hits, 30 runs scored, six doubles, and 11 RBI in the lead off position. Higbie had a slugging percentage of .383 and an on base percentage of .361. She was 13-of-14 in stolen bases.

2008: In her freshman season, Higbie played in 45 games, starting 42, splitting time at designated player and shortstop. She had a batting average of .321 with 43 hits, 43 runs scored and 27 runs driven in.

High School: She was a shortstop, utility player and pitcher for Wellsville High School. Higbie helped lead the Lady Eagles to their first state appearance in 2007.

Personal: Higbie is the daughter of Steve and Sherry Higbie ... born May 17, 1989 ... sports and recreation administration major.

SENIOR - OUTFIELD/CATCHER - 5-6 GREELEY, KAN. - ANDERSON COUNTY Entering her senior season, Bowman is ranked ninth in the OU record books in slugging percentage (.402), sixth in batting average (.380), and tied for first in stolen bases (74).

Lawrence Phoenix softball team that earned a ASA State Championship in 2006 and earned a third place finish in AFA State. Bowman earned Honorable Mention All-League honors in volleyball.

2010: Bowman played and started all 37 games for the Lady Braves during her junior season. She had a .313 batting average with 41 hits, 36 runs scored, one double, and six RBI. Bowman had a slugging percentage of .321 and an on base percentage of .343. She broke her own school record for single season stolen bases with 44.

Bowman was 4-for-4 in stolen bases versus Kansas Wesleyan University (4/17), had nine multi-hit games, and 13 games where she stole two or more bases. She earned First Team All-KCAC honors.

Bowman finished the season ranked second in the NAIA in steal attempts per game (1.2), second in stolen bases per game (1.1), eighth in total stolen bases (44), and 11th in total steal attempts (47).

Personal: Bowman is the daughter of J.C. and Margie Bowman ... born July 24, 1989 ... elementary education major.

2009: Bowman started 36 of the 38 games that she appeared in during her sophomore season. She led the team in batting average (.478) with 44 hits, 16 runs scored; she had a slugging percentage of .489 and had an on base percentage of .495. Bowman was 29of-33 in stolen bases, and set the school record for stolen bases in a single game with five versus Tabor College (4/9). She set a school record for single season batting average (.478). Bowman earned Second Team All-KCAC honors.

2008: Bowman appeared in 11 varsity games in her first collegiate season. She hit .333 with an onbase percentage of .333 and a slugging percentage of .333.

High School: Bowman earned three athletic letters in volleyball and four in softball for Garnett High School. She was part of the

SENIOR - INFIELDER - 5-11 HARRISONVILLE, MO. - HARRISONVILLE Entering her senior season, Fuerst is ranked 10th in the OU record books in career RBI with 48.

2010: Fuerst played in 36 games, starting 35 as a junior for the Lady Braves. She had a .245 batting average with 26 hits, nine runs scored, four doubles, one homerun, and 23 RBI. Fuerst had a slugging percentage of .311 and an on base percentage of .278. She was 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts and tallied three sacrifice flies.

Fuerst had her first multi-hit game of the season versus the University of Science and Arts (3/5) and hit her second career homerun versus Kansas Wesleyan University (4/29).

2009: In her sophomore season, Fuerst appeared in 33 games, starting 25. She hit .207 and tallied 17 hits, eight runs, 12 RBI, six doubles and one homerun. Fuerst had a slugging percentage of .317 and an on base percentage of .250.

2008: Fuerst appeared in 26 games, starting 18 as a freshman first baseman for the Lady Braves. She had a .317 batting average with 19 hits and 13 runs driven in. Fuerst earned Honorable Mention All-KCAC and was named KCAC Player of the Week once.

High School: Fuerst led her Harrisonville High School team to conference, district and state championships during her senior season. She was a three time all-conference and all-district selection.

Fuerst also earned Second Team All-Region honors as a senior.

Personal: Fuerst is the daughter of Denise Fuerst ... born March 28, 1989 ... business administration and accounting major.

SENIOR - OUTFIELDER - 5-2 BUCYRUS, KAN. - JOHNSON CO. CC 2010: Tuter appeared and played in 37 games for the Lady Braves on her way to earning NFCA Second Team All-American, NFCA First Team All-Midwest, and First Team All-KCAC honors. She was the softball program’s first NAIA All-American selection. Tuter led the team in batting average (.448), which is second all-time in the OU record books for single season batting average. She had 56 hits in 125 at bats. Tuter scored 43 runs, earned seven doubles, six triples, and had 31 RBI. She had a slugging percentage of .600 and an on base percentage of .478. Tuter was second on the team in stolen bases, going 35-for-37. She finished the year ranked third in the NAIA in triples per game (0.94), 10th in steal attempts per game (1), 10th in total triples (6), 12th in runs scored per game (1.1), 17th in hits per game (1.5), 18th in total stolen bases (35), 20th in total steal attempts (37), and 27th in batting average (.448).

Johnson County CC: Tuter helped Johnson County to two straight NJCAA Division II National Tournaments, placing fifth and ninth.

As a sophomore for the Cavaliers, she earned First Team NJCAA All-Region VI/District E and Second Team All-East Jayhawk Conference. Tuter was also named NJCAA Academic All-American.

Tuter had a batting average (second on the team) of .419 (65-for155) with five doubles, five triples, 13 RBI, 49 runs scored, and her five triples were a team high. She was successful on 27 of 30 stolen base attempts and her 27 steals led JCCC and tied for 20th in the NJCAA. During her freshman season, she played in 35 games as a pitcher and designated hitter. She batted .299 (32-for-107) with three doubles, two triples, two home runs, 28 runs scored, and 14 RBI. She was 6-for-7 in stolen bases for the Cavaliers. Tuter pitched in three games for a total of 13.1 innings worked and finished with a record of 1-1 with 12 strikeouts. She made two starts in the circle and pitched one complete game shutout. Tuter had a career batting average of .357 (97-for-272) with eight doubles, seven triples, two

home runs, 27 RBI and 77 runs scored. She stole 33 bases in 37 attempts (.892). Tuter finishes her career at JCCC 11th all-time in triples (7) and 13th in stolen bases (33).

High School: Tuter attended Louisburg High where she was TriCounty Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. She was a three-time First Team All-League pitcher and led the Wildcats to the state tournament in 2005 and 2006.

Morgan BECKLER #1

SOPHOMORE - PITCHER - 5-5 BEAVER CROSSING, NEB. - CENTENNIAL PUBLIC 2010: In her first collegiate season, Beckler played in 19 games, starting 16 on the mound. She finished the season with a record of 14-3 and a 1.98 ERA, which is second in the OU record books in single season. She pitched in 109.1 innings, had 12 complete games, two shutouts, and 68 strikeouts. Opponents had a batting average of .212 against her. Beckler had a career high nine strikeouts versus University of Science and Arts (3/5) and had her first career shutout versus the University of Saint Mary (3/30). She earned KCAC Newcomer of the Year and was named First Team All-KCAC. Beckler earned KCAC Pitcher of the Week honors once.

High School: Beckler was a four year letter winner in softball and a three year letterman in track for the Centennial Public High School. 2011 Newcomers

Lyndsay SWAFFORD #4 JUNIOR - CATCHER - 5-9 LEXINGTON, MO. - JOHNSON CO. CC Johnson Co. CC: Swafford was a two-time All-Conference and All-Region selection for the Cavaliers. She helped compile an 84-24 record in two seasons with two national tournament appearances. During her sophomore season, she helped JCCC to a 48-11 record and a tie for fifth place in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. Swafford earned honorable mention All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI/District D honors. She played in 52 games and batted .228 (34-for-149) with eight doubles, 13 runs and 14 RBI. Swafford had a fielding percentage of .990 on the season and had only three errors in 310 fielding chances.

In her freshman season, Swafford earned First-Team All-Region VI and

Honorable Mention All-East Jayhawk Conference honors at catcher. She played in 48 games and batted .365 (58-for-159) with seven doubles, 38 RBI and 24 runs. Swafford’s 58 hits were third on the team, and her 38 RBI ranked fourth. She did not commit an error from her catching position and threw out 13 of 16 stolen base runners. Swafford helped JCCC to a ninth place finish at nationals.

High School: At Lexington High School, she earned varsity letters in softball, basketball and track and field. Swafford was a threetime All-Missouri Valley Conference and two-time All-District performer in softball. She also garnered All-Conference and AllDistrict honors in basketball three times and was a three-time selection to the KMZU Dream Team. Swafford scored over 1,000 points in basketball and on the track qualified for the Missouri 2A State Track Meet her sophomore, junior and senior years. She helped her team win a district title in track her sophomore season, and a regional title as a senior. Swafford earned Academic All-Conference in all three varsity sports.

Taylor HEFFERN #6 FIRST YEAR - PITCHER/INFIELDER - 5-5 YATES CENTER, KAN. - WASHBURN UNIVERSITY Washburn University: Heffern redshirted and has all four years of eligibility remaining.

High School: Heffern was a four year letter winner in softball and basketball and earned three letters in volleyball for Yates Center High School (YCHS). She earned Second Team All-State honors and was an All-League performer as a sophomore and junior. Heffern led YCHS with six homeruns, a batting average of .523, and struck out 155 batters her junior season. She played on the Iola Fire summer team and helped lead them to a USSSA 16U State Championship, a second place finish at USSSA State 18U, a second place finish at ASA State 16U and an AFA State 16U third place finish. Heffern is a member of the National Honor Society and a volunteer coach for soccer, basketball and t-ball.

Darin LEWIS #10 FIRST YEAR - PITCHER - 5-7 OVERLAND PARK, KAN. - OLATHE EAST High School: As a junior at Olathe East High School, Lewis pitched the Hawks to the Regional Championship and a 3rd place finish in the KSHSAA 6A State Tournament. She posted a 12-2 record and was selected to the All-Olathe Team, earned Second Team All-Sunflower League and was named Second Team AllJohnson County. Lewis is a 2010 NAIA Champions of Character Honoree. In the fall of 2009, she pitched for the Diamond Devils Black. Lewis was undefeated against 18U Gold competition beating such national powerhouses as the Texas Impact Gold and California Sorcerers with a cumulative 1.10 ERA. At the plate, she had a batting average of .409, an on base percentage of .490 and a slugging percentage of .568 in 53 plate appearances with one home run. Lewis was an ace on the pitching staff of the Olathe Flash Softball Club for 9 years. With the Flash, she played in two ASA Northern National Championship games and one AFA National Championship game, winning the national title in 2007 where she was selected to the ASA All Tournament Team. Lewis also pitched her Flash team to second place finishes at the 2005 ASA National Tournament and the 2003 AFA National Championship. She was selected MVP at the 2009 USSSA State Tournament. She helped the Ravens to a Kansas State Championship in 2009 and a runner-up finish in 2008. Wilson led the Ravens to two regional championships and a Sunflower League Championships.

Becca DUNLOP #24 FIRST YEAR - OUTFIELDER - 5-7 BURLINGTON, KAN. - BURLINGTON High School: Dunlop was a four year letterwinner in softball and cross country for Burlington High School. She earned one letter in basketball. Dunlop was a 2009 all-league selection on the diamond. In 61 at bats, she had a batting average of .525, drove in 24 runs, had a slugging percentage of .820, tallied two homeruns and was 15-of-15 in stolen base attempts. During the summer of 2009, Dunlop played for “A” 16U had a batting average of .406 in 101 at bats. She tallied 17 RBI, had a slugging percentage of .436 and was 6-of-6 in stolen base attempts.

In 2008, Dunlop helped her traveling team to the ASA “B” 16U State Title, AFA “B” 16U State Title and to an ASU National Regional Runner-up finish. In the summer of 2007, she helped them to an ASA “B” 14U State Title and an AFA “B” 14U State Title.

Jenny SCHNEIDER #25 FIRST YEAR - PITCHER - 5-6 KANSAS CITY, KAN. - BISHOP WARD High School: Schneider is a four year letter winner in softball and earned two letters in cross country for the Bishop Ward High School (BWHS) Cyclones. She helped BWHS to a regional championship and a state tournament appearance in 2009. Schneider pitched in all three region games without giving up an earned run. She earned Second Team All-Kaw Valley as a senior and was voted BWHS MVP and Most Dedicated Player by her teammates in 2008 and again in 2009.

Schneider played in the 2008 Colorado Sparks All-Star Game and helped her team to an eighth place finish at the Triple Crown World Series in Park City, Utah.

Head Coach Jay KAHNT Coach Kahnt is in his 10th season as head softball coach for Ottawa University.

Coach Kahnt has coached 48 All-KCAC selections, six first team All-Region IV selections, three NFCA All-Midwest Region Selections, and the program’s first NAIA AllAmerican and Region IV Player of the Year. The softball team team has excelled in the classroom as well, having 13 players earn NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete honors and the 2010 team was named a Daktronic Scholar Team.

Kahnt’s Career Honors 2010 KCAC Coach of the Year 2007 KCAC Coach of the Year

Under Kahnt’s leadership in 2010, OU won its second KCAC Championship, captured the program’s first KCAC Tournament Title, and qualfiied for their second trip to the NAIA Softball National Championships. Because of his coaching efforts he earned his second KCAC Coach of the Year honor. OU finished the season with a record of 2710 and a KCAC record of 15-1. OU placed nine players on the All-KCAC team and the program had its first All-American selection with Lindsey Tuter earning NFCA Second Team All-American honors. Myah Sprew was named Second Team NFCA AllMidwest and Tuter was a First Team NFCA All-Midwest selection. The OU softball team did well in the classroom as they were named a NAIA Scholar Team and had two players, Tuter and Kadie Berlin, named Daktronic Scholar Athletes.

The 2009 Lady Braves ended the season with an overall record of 26-18 and a KCAC record of 12-4. OU finished third in the KCAC regular season and third in the KCAC Post Season Tournament. Under Coach Kahnt’s leadership, the 2009 Lady Braves broke a total of eight team and individual records and defeated two nationally ranked softball teams for the first time in school history. OU had eight players earn All-KCAC honors, the most in program history.

During the 2008 season, Coach Kahnt earned his 100th head coaching victory as the Lady Braves earned their third straight Region IV Tournament birth. The Lady Braves set a school record for season victories with 31 and had seven players earn All-KCAC honors and for the third straight season a player earn Region IV honors.

In 2007, the Lady Braves won their first KCAC Regular Season Championship and finished second in the KCAC Post Season Tournament for the second year in a row.

Coach Kahnt earned Co-KCAC Coach of the Year honors.

In 2006, OU became the first team in KCAC history to reach the NAIA Softball National Tournament by winning the programs first NAIA Region IV Touranment Championshp.

Coach Kahnt was a student assistant from 1997-2000 for the men’s basketball team, before becoming a full-time assistant in 2000 and continued in that position until 2006.

Kahnt was a player in the Braves basketball program during the 1996-97 season, before deciding to become a coach. Kahnt graduated from Ottawa University in 2000 with a degree in business administration. In 2002, he received his master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Kansas. Kahnt is an instructor in the Physical Education Department and Director of Intramurals.

Assistant Coach Kristin SCHALK Kristin Schalk will begin her first year as an assistant coach on the Lady Braves softball staff. She will assist in all aspects of the program, specifically with outfield and hitting.

Schalk joins Ottawa from NCAA Division II Gannon University in Erie, Pa., where she graduated in May 2010 with a Bachelors of Science in Sports and Exercise Science.

There she was a three-year letterwinner on the women’s softball team.

During her career with the Golden Knights, Schalk served as an outfielder and designated player. She hit a career high .275 during her senior season while leading the team in doubles.

Throughout her time as an undergraduate, Schalk served as a member of Gannon’s sports and exercise science club, president of the physical therapy club, homecoming court member and student assistant coach for Gannon’s men’s wrestling team.

Schalk has also spent time as an assistant coach with the Central Ohio Lady Rebels 16U club softball team and Mercyhurst Preparatory High School softball team. As an assistant coach she worked within all facets of the game, primarily focusing on outfield, middle infield and hitting.

Schalk was a 2006 graduate of Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, Ohio.

She is currently working on her masters of sports administration from Canisius College.

Graduate Assistant Coach Beth KRYSIAK Beth Krysiak will begin her first year as a graduate assistant on the Lady Braves softball staff. She will assist in all aspects of the program, specifically with pitchers and catchers.

Krysiak joins OU directly from Centenary College in Shreveport, where she received a BS in Health and Exercise Science and a BA in Psychology in May 2010 and was a four-year letterwinner on the Ladies softball team.

Playing as a utility player, Krysiak saw action at catcher, third base, first base, and outfield during her time at Centenary. She hit a career high .222 during her senior season and led the team with a .300 average in Summit League play.

During her time as an undergraduate, Krysiak served as Centenary’s intramural student director where she managed events, staff workers and maintained communication with the student-athletes.

Krysiak also assisted former head coach Mark Montgomery as a student intern in the softball office, helping with recruitment, travel, practice plans, and community service events.

Since May 2006, Krysiak has spent time as an assistant coach with the Houston Power 18U Gold club softball team. In that role, she worked with catchers, pitchers and infielders, as well as organized and ran clinics on field coaching.

Krysiak was 2005 graduate of The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas.

She plans on pursuing a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in curriculum and instruction.

Athletic Director Arabie CONNER Arabie Conner begins her sixth year at the helm of Ottawa University’s athletic department. The previous five years have brought many accomplishments for the Braves: 115 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes, 29 NAIA All-Americans, 82 KCAC Players of the Week, and 302 All-KCAC selections. Six coaches have been named KCAC Coach of the Year, two have been named KBCA College Coach of the Year and two have earned region coach of the year. Under Conner, the athletic department started women’s golf during the 2007-08 season. The men’s and women’s basketball teams have each reached the Sweet 16 of the NAIA Division II National Tournament. The men’s team made back-to-back appearances at the NAIA National Tournament (200607, 2007-08) for the first time in program history.

Before being named athletic director, Conner spent 11 years as the head women’s basketball coach at Ottawa University, stepping down after a record breaking 2006-07 season. She finished as the all-time winningest coach in Lady Brave history with 162 victories.

Conner earned the Kansas Basketball Coaches Associations Women’s College Basketball Coach of the Year award 2003-04 and again in 2006-07. In 2004, 2006 and 2007, she led the Lady Braves to the KCAC Basketball Tournament Championship and to the NAIA Division II National Tournament. Conner also helped OU to its first ‘Sweet 16’ appearance at the NAIA National Tournament in 2007.

Conner graduated from William Jewell College in 1992 with a degree in health/exercise science and English. She was a four year letterwinner on the basketball court for the Cardinals, earning HAAC Player of the Year in 1991. Conner is fourth all-time in career scoring (1,893). Conner also played softball and soccer for WJC and after her playing days, she was an assistant coach on the women’s basketball team. She was named William Jewell Athlete of the Year twice for two different sports, basketball and softball and was inducted into William Jewell’s Hall of Fame in 2004.

Conner earned a master’s degree in sports administration and sport psychology from the University of Kansas. She has been an associate professor in the OU physical education department, taught in the liberal arts studies program and is the first female athletic director in school history.

Conner resides in Ottawa with her husband Tim and their children Cole (10), Kylie (9), Zoey (7), and Brodie (6).

Assistant Athletic Director Bruce TATE Bruce Tate is in his sixth year as assistant director of athletics at Ottawa University, and in his third season as head coach for the Lady Braves basketball team. He spent nine years as an assistant coach and was the head junior varsity coach.

In addition to coaching basketball, Tate also serves as an instructor in physical education and is in charge of game day management. He graduated from OU in May of 2000 with a degree in physical education, with emphasis in recreation administration and health and fitness. Tate earned a Master of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Emporia State University in 2005.

Assistant Athletic Director Tom TALDO Tom Taldo is in his third year as assistant athletic director at OU. He is dean of student affairs and an assistant track coach for the Braves and Lady Braves track and field teams.

Before coming to OU, Taldo spent six seasons with Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, coaching the defensive secondary, wide receivers, tight ends, and the offensive line. A 1999 graduate of Bethany, he was part of the 1994, ’95, ’96 KCAC Championship teams as a player. Taldo was a three-year letter winner in football, and was a four-year letter winner and named All-KCAC in track for the Swedes. He completed his master’s degree in sports administration from Wichita State University in 2005.

Taldo, his wife Gina, their four children Carter (2), McKenna (1), Addison (newborn), and Avery (newborn) reside in Ottawa.

Faculty Athletic Representative DR. Corkie HEDLUND Dr. Corkie Hedlund is in her eighth year as OU’s faculty athletic representative. Her responsibilities include monitoring the academic achievement of student-athletes, as well as making certain they meet University, conference and national association eligibility requirements.

President Kevin C. EICHNER Kevin Eichner became the 21st president of Ottawa University in July of 2008 having served as a member of the OU Board of Trustees since 1982 and as a prior Chairman.

Under his leadership, the University has embarked on a major expansion campaign and is presently enjoying record growth in new student enrollments.

Prior to his appointment to lead Ottawa University, Eichner served as president, CEO and vice chairman of Enterprise Financial Services Corporation, the parent company of Enterprise Bank & Trust, a $4.0 billion banking and wealth management trust company headquartered in St. Louis with operations in Kansas City and Phoenix. A cofounder of Enterprise, Eichner served as its CEO from 2002 through May of 2008 and oversaw its emergence as a NASDAQ-traded company recognized for its high growth and performance in the financial services industry.

Prior to his work at Enterprise, Eichner served as executive vice president and then CEO of General American/MetLife for five years. In 1983, he founded a successful consulting company, Collaborative Strategies, Inc., which provided consultation to a large number of management and strategic for-profit and not-for-profit organizations during his 14 year tenure prior to its acquisition by General American in 1997.

Eichner is a 1973 graduate of Ottawa University with a BA in social change. He went on to earn an MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1977. Firmly committed to lifelong learning, Eichner designed and launched Enterprise University for Enterprise Bank and Trust, which has enrolled more than 5,000 executives and non-profit leaders in workshops aimed at enhancing their knowledge and skill sets. He has written business essays which have been regularly published. Eichner has taught workshops on numerous business and organizational topics over the past 25 years. He is known as an accomplished strategic planning facilitator, having served more than 100 clients in this capacity.

Eichner and his wife Marylin, a 2000 graduate of OU-Kansas City, are the parents of three sons.

Vice President & Provost DR. Dennis TYNER Dr. Dennis Tyner is in his fourth year as the Vice President and Provost of The College at Ottawa University, a position in which he is responsible for the administration of the entire Ottawa campus. Formerly the Dean of The David Crawford School of Engineering at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, Tyner came to Ottawa University in the spring of 2007. In his brief three and one-half years here, Tyner and his team have helped to increase The College enrollment by more than 65 percent, and are excited about the expected continued growth through the next decade.

Dr. Tyner and his wife Patty are the proud parents of eight children: Rikki (32), Katy (31), Kelli (27), Kristi (23), Kandi (21), David (20), Kevin (18), and Keith (15). Tyner resides in Ottawa, Kansas.

Head Athletic Trainer Jennifer RAYBERN Jennifer Raybern is in her 13th year as head athletic trainer at Ottawa University.

She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with athletic training emphasis. Raybern worked for two years as a student trainer at KU, working primarily with the Jayhawk softball, football, women’s tennis, and swimming and diving teams. While getting her Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Sports Psychology at the University of Kansas, she served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Baker University.

As head athletic trainer for the Braves, Raybern is responsible for the prevention, care and rehabilitation of injuries for 14 varsity athletic programs. She is a member of the faculty in the physical education department primarily teaching a variety of courses in the exercise science discipline. Raybern is the program director for OU’s National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) endorsed personal training and strength and conditioning programs. In addition to being a certified and licensed athletic trainer, she is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and performance enhancement specialist, as well as works with individuals and teams on performance enhancement programs. Raybern supervises student athletic trainers as they help care for the sports medicine needs of Braves’ athletes.

Assistant Athletic Trainer Chris POSKEY Chris Poskey is in his third year as assistant athletic trainer for Ottawa University. As an athletic trainer for OU, he is responsible for the prevention, care and rehabilitation of injuries for all 14 varsity athletic teams.

Poskey graduated from the University of Kansas in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. He worked for two years with the football, track and softball teams. Poskey then went on to graduate school at the University of Oregon. There, he worked with the football, track and wrestling teams.

Originally from Chase, Kansas, Poskey graduated from Chase High School in 2002.

He competed in football, basketball and track for all four years for the Kats.

Team Doctor Dr. John GOLLIER Dr. John C. Gollier, MD is in his third season as team doctor for the Ottawa University athletic teams. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1997. Gollier did his residency at the Baptist Medical Center/Gopper Family Care in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2000. He earned his board certification through The American Board of Family Medicine. Gollier has memberships in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Assocation and the Kansas Medical Society.

Team Doctor Dr. Gregory LYNCH Dr. Gregory P. Lynch, MD, has been a team doctor for the OU athletic teams since 1999. He specializes in the treatment of athletic injuries of the knee and shoulder.

Lynch received an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in 1988 and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1993. He did an intership in surgery at Boston University (BU) in 1994 and did his residency in orthopedic surgery at BU in 1998. Lynch did his fellowship training in sport medicine at the Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1999. He earned his certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 2002. Lynch has been an assistant team physician to the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the University of Minnesota football teams.

2010

After finishing in the top three the previous four seasons at the KCAC Tournament, the Lady Braves finally broke through. OU went undefeated in tournament play and defeated the defending champions, Friends University, 3-1 in the championship game. OU would of had a tougher road to hoe if it wasn’t for the semifinal heroics of Kadie Berlin. With OU down 2-0 to Bethany College in the semifinals, Berlin hit a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on. It was her first and only homerun of the season and it pushed OU to the finals versus Friends.

OU Softball Region IV Qualifiers

1998 In just two years after the program’s beginnings, the Lady Braves qualified for its first Region IV Tournament. The Lady Braves were defeated by Bellevue University, 6-0 and Jamestown College, 4-3.

Region IV Participant

2006

The Lady Braves ended the regular season by finishing strong and taking second in the KCAC Tournament. OU qualified for its first Region IV Tournament since 1998. OU was the sixth seed entering the tounament.

The Lady Braves upset Friends University in the first game, a team which had defeated them twice the week before in the KCAC Tournament. OU then downed Newman University in game two, took down Peru State College in game three and then in the championship the Lady Braves defeated Newman for the second time in the tournament to qualify for the NAIA Softball National Tournament. OU was the first KCAC team to qualify for nationals.

Region IV Champions

2007

For the second straight season and just the third time in program history, OU qualified for the Region IV Tournament. The Lady Braves won two games at the tournament, defeating York College 4-2 and Bethany College 6-1.

For the fourth time in program history, OU qualified for the Region IV Tournament. The Lady Braves fell to Bethany College 9-7 and Bellevue University 13-5. The 2008 season was the last year that the NAIA used the region tournaments to qualify for the NAIA Softball National Tournament.

OU Softball NAIA National Tournament Qualifiers TM

2006

For the first time in program history, OU qualified for the NAIA Softball National Tournament. OU was the first KCAC team to make the softball national tournament. The Lady Braves played four games at the national tournament falling in all four.

2010

The Lady Braves won the KCAC Tournament to qualify for the second time to the NAIA Softball National Tournament. OU played four ranked opponents falling to no. 7 Point Loma Nazarene 5-1, no. 10 Shorter College, 3-0 and no. 22 MidAmerica Nazarene University 6-4.

OU NFCA All-American TM

Lindsey TUTER Lindsey Tuter was named OU’s first NFCA NAIA All-American in 2010 when she earned Second Team honors. She led OU in batting average (.448), hits (56), runs scored (43), slugging percentage (.600), and on base percentage (.478). Tuter was second on the team in RBIs (31) and was 31-for-37 in stolen bases. She finished the season ranked third in the NAIA in triples per game (0.162), ninth in stolen bases per game (0.946), 10th in steal attempts per game (1), 10th in total triples (6), and 12th in runs scored per game (1.1).
