USER PORTRAIT During the teamwork part of the project, there was conducted primary research of BTS/MRT users through the offline and online survey. Based on the results of this questionnaire, the basic portrait of the user was developed. The key findings of this research present bellow. It became clear that the significant benefit of using BTS for a person is saving time and avoiding traffic jams. Also, it was discovered that a transportation card as an item in the pocket (or a piece of plastic) has little to no value for a person. In other words, the card is perceiving as something practical. In this case, as far as no system can exclude a card from

the chain (at this period), it seems logical to think about how to make this product valuable for passengers. One of the ways to add value to this item is promoting a new payment object as a symbol of sustainability, which corresponds to the modern social trends. This could be both a better way of using 5g of plastic (the weight of any plastic card) and supporting and local manufacture that can produce a distinctive accessory.

The card has little to no value for the user. Usually, it is placed on clothes pocket, not into the wallet.

One of the limitations that can affect the design development is the size of existing contactless technology. In other words, is it possible to install it in the device that is not a card? These days, dimensions of the contactless chip are around 7.6 mm, which is relatively small. Also, on the example of Moscow’s metro experience, it is seen that such technology can be installed into any little accessory.

THE SECURITY OF TECHNOLOGY
Security using biometrics
Step 1:
A cardholder dips or taps* the card at a chip-enabled terminal –
while holding their thumb onto the built-in sensor on the face of the card
Step 2: The cardholder’s fingerprint image is compared against the stored biometric images within the card
Step 3: Issuer receives chip data which indicates whether the biometric authentication was successful or failed. If matching is not possible, the cardholder will be asked to enter an alternate cardholder verification method like PIN or signature which the merchant will handle as they do today *At the time of this document’s release, Mastercard Biometric Cards are only available for contact payments.

A smartphone is the only device for entertaining for a person while traveling in BTS. Today, it is not only the tool to communicate but the accessory for self-expression. Still, a traditional accessory is preforming this function for a long time. The idea is to combine classic garments such as earrings with modern technology and add practical functionality to it. The idea of earrings looks a bit radical at first sight. For local society, earrings seem more like traditional women accessory. There was observed that young men are also wearing such type of decoration, probably not so often than women.
Still, watching
these days local advertisement in both fashion magazines and on the streets, the men with earrings can be noticed more often. Thus, it can be concluded that such a visual reference will probably be adopted by society soon. It is clear that the offered idea is mostly a concept. It aims to show the

PAYMENT EARRING The more sustainable alternative for public transportation payment
16
• SAVING TIME The payment process becomes a bit faster due to touching the earring instead of searching the card in the pocket and tapping it to a turnstile.
• PROVIDING SAFE PAYMENT The money on the account is safe due to the system requires biometry.
• INCREASING THE VALUE OF THE PAYMENT ITEM The earring is a personal accessory that shows the distinctiveness of a person.
• USING RAW MATERIAL THOUGHTFULLY The weight of earring is around 5 grams or less. It is the same amount of material for producing a payment card that usually has no value to its owner.
• GIVING FUN!

HOW IT WORKS STEP 1:
Payment process
Put on the earring.
STEP 2: Approach the turnstile at a distance of at least 20 cm, i.e. as close as possible.
STEP 3: Press the back-side of the earring with your thumb or forefinger. The sound will indicate that the transaction has occurred.
STEP 4: Pass through the turnstile.
