JCSC Foundation News

The Foundation has decided to change the date and name of their Christmas Box project to Spring into Giving for Seniors with boxes being delivered March 30 – April 4, 2020 for seniors in need. The Foundation is in the planning stages right now for this new project. Please be watching for more details and how you can help. Our Foundation Board consists of members: President Janice Shelton, President-Elect Rebecca Hennessee, Secretary Charles Hough, Treasurer Frank Calderala, Past President James Hunter, and members: Barbara Block, Bo Deaton, Ted Eades, Frank Hawkins, Jeff Johnson, Whitney Larkin, Deborah Marshall-Polon, Brackton Smith and Teresa Treadway. Thank you for your service this year.

Inclement Weather Policy: If Johnson City Schools are closed for inclement weather, the center will open at 10:00am and all instructor lead programs cancelled and the center will close at 5:00pm. If the Johnson City Schools are on a 2 hour delay for inclement weather, the center will open at 10:00am and programs will occur as normal and the center will close at normal hours.

The Johnson City Senior Center Foundation Board would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

ALERT

Starting January 1, 2020 the Johnson City Senior Center will accept the Renew Active™ program by United Healthcare. Please see front desk staff to enroll in the Renew Active™ program at our center. You will be asked to provide a confirmation code assigned by United Healthcare. You will also be given a list of eligible classes through this program. We will still be offering the SilverSneakers® program for those whose insurance covers SilverSneakers®. So that our records are accurate, everyone will be required to renew your certification (SilverSneakers® or Renew Active™) through our center in January. Please see front desk staff for more information.

AARP Drivers Safety Class Rescheduled from November (Ages 50+) Instructor: Diane Bolger Cost: $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members to be paid to the Instructor on the day of the class 2 day class on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 10 and 11, 9a-1p Some of the topics the class will cover: • How to minimize the effects of dangerous blind spots • How to maintain the proper following distance behind another car • The safest ways to change lanes and make turns at busy intersections • Proper use of safety belts, air bags, antilock brakes and new technology found in cars today • Ways to monitor your own and others’ driving skills and capabilities • The effects of medications on driving (Source: AARP) and more. Travel Corner We invite you to celebrate the Christmas season with your friends from JCSC Seniors on the Go. The monthly travel meeting will be on Thursday, December 12, at 3:00 pm. We’ll sing Christmas Carols, enjoy cookies, and talk travel! We have a great selection of motor coach trips for 2020 – where will your travels take you next year? If you’re not sure what to give a parent, spouse or friend this Christmas, why not create special memories with the gift of travel? We also want to remind you that the Center will be closed December 24-28, for the Christmas holiday and for maintenance on the building. The Center will also close on New Year’s Day.

This is a rare cancer and it can be very helpful to join with others to: gain support, remove isolation, share stories, discuss care, and find treatments. A supervised exercise program for individuals who have finished Cardiac Rehab, Physical Therapy or been told by your physician that you need to exercise but don’t know how. This program serves as the next step in your progression in establishing a safe, independent exercise program. This program requires a referral from a medical professional. This is an ideal program for the individual who is facing total joint replacement both before surgery and after finishing postsurgical physical therapy.
