Happy February! We hope that you are making plans to treat your special Valentine with an adventure on one of our upcoming motor coach trips. The February meeting will be on Thursday, February 13 at 3:00 pm. There will be a rematch of the “Not-So-Newlywed” game between Gary and Carolyn Lyon and Terry and Jane Ann Williams, as well as special treats for the ladies in attendance. Please call to register at 434-6237. Hope to see you there! Here’s a bit of trivia in honor of the upcoming motor coach trip to Boston: In 1847, Oliver R. Chase of Boston invented and patented the first American candy machine, a lozenge cutter. This marked the founding of the nation’s candy industry, the beginning of commercial manufacture. Sweethearts (also known as conversation hearts) are small heart-shaped sugar candies sold around Valentine’s Day. Each heart is printed with a message such as “Be Mine”, “Kiss Me”, “Call Me”, “Let’s Get Busy”, or “Miss You”. Sweethearts were made by the New England Confectionery Company, or Necco. Necco was an American manufacturer of candy created in 1901 as the New England Confectionery Company through the merger of several small confectionery companies located in the Greater Boston area. Necco manufactured nearly 8 billion Sweethearts per year. With it’s candy history, Boston will be a perfect trip to celebrate your sweetheart!

DOMINION SENIOR LIVING OF Johnson City
Welcomes New Community Relations Manager
Melanie Bowman started as Dominion’s new Customer Relations Manager on October 14, 2019. She is a native of Kansas and has called Johnson City, TN home for almost a decade now. Melanie has been working with seniors for over 15 years starting with her career after college as a Social Services, Admissions, and Marketing Director for a nursing home near her hometown. As a huge advocate for helping people in the Senior population, Melanie has been actively involved in Alzheimer’s TN and Alzheimer’s Associations. She lives with her 6-year-old daughter Emma, so there is never a dull moment at her house. In her free time, she likes spending time with Emma, hiking, shopping, bike riding and all things girls like to do! Whether you are looking for assisted living or memory care, you will experience a piece of mind knowing that our family is caring for yours!
