Suffrage Coalition Group Discussion: Personal stories Monday, March 16 6p Cost: Free The Suffrage Coalition Group is a grassroots organization of local individuals who are inspired to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment (1920). Tennessee was instrumental in the passage because it was the 36th state to ratify the amendment (36 states were required to pass the amendment!) There was a parade through downtown Johnson City in 1920 to commemorate the passage. A recreation of the parade will occur later this year to celebrate the centennial. I am seeking stories from local residents who have memories of gaining the right to vote due to the ratification of the 19th Amendment and how that impacted them. My first focus is on women who were here around 1920 and possibly involved in the actual local movement and march. I will also accept stories from outside the area, with a similar focus. Next “level” would be the daughters/granddaughters who have stories to share regarding the impact of the right to vote, foremost local citizens.... then beyond the local area. The biggest impact, however, will affect your loved ones: When they inherit IRAs and 401(k) s, their taxes could go up! So, what do these new rules mean for your 401(k)s, IRAs or other investment accounts? Joins us for this informative program. Please Pre-register.
