JCSC Foundation News We want to welcome our new members to the Johnson City Senior Center Foundation Board: Barbara Block and Teresa Treadway. We are excited to have you as part of our team and thank you for your willingness to serve. On August 12th, Seniors Night - Look for the Johnson City Senior Center table at the entrance to the JC Cardinals baseball park to receive a free ticket to the game for the first 200 seniors and information about the Johnson City Senior Center Foundation and the vital role they play in our center. How does the Foundation help the Johnson City Senior Center? They provide financial support for having our Health Activities Coordinator and nurse, Jeanne Clarke; provide funds to support our fellowship grant program for low income seniors; provide funds for several of our charter trips; provide funds for center programs; Christmas boxes for low income seniors; and fundraising for the Johnson City Senior Center. Walkers & Talkers* Sycamore Shoals Trail, Elizabethton, TN (Ages 50+) Cost: $1 Wednesday, August 14, 9:30a This is a gravel walking trail located at the Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area in Elizabethton, TN. Nice scenic trail along Watauga River with benches and history tid-bits along the way. Sycamore Shoals is a place that has witnessed history unfold. A park ranger will provide historical insights of the fort. We will complete our hike through the tall trees that line the paths and the Watauga River as it runs peacefully along beside of you. The trail is smooth, well maintained, and gentle. This trail is rated as easy and is a 2 mile loop. Transportation van from MPCC and carpooling; returning to MPCC by 1:00p.
Hiking 101* Warriors Path State Park, Lake Shore Loop, Kingsport, TN (Ages 50+) Cost: $1 Tuesday, August 13, 7:30a Walk through a pine and hardwood forests down to the Doe River and the entrance of the Doe River Gorge. The trail is two loops that total 2.5 miles. The trail does have some elevation gain and rocks but is generally considered easy. Transportation van from MPCC and carpooling if needed; returning to MPCC by 2:00p.
Clarks Creek Recreation Area, Sill Branch & Pine Ridge Waterfalls, Erwin, TN (Ages 50+) Cost: $1 Tuesday, August 27, 7:30a Clarks Creek Recreation Area is a secluded backcountry cove nestled in the Bald Mountains. The falls are beautiful, and well-worth the short hike. Still Branch is a 2.0 mile loop that is an easy hike that features a waterfall, and Pine Ridge Falls is a 0.9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. You will get a beautiful and peaceful view of the gorgeous waterfalls. Transportation van from MPCC and carpooling if needed; returning to MPCC by 1:00p.

Hip Hikers* AT-@Camp Creek to Allen Gap, Greeneville, TN (Ages 50+) Cost: $0 Thursday, August 8, 7:30a Hike from Camp creek to Allen Gap on the AT. The hike is an out and back for a total of 6.5 miles with a moderate elevation. The trail is rated as intermediate and is in the Viking Mountain area with views of Greeneville and the North Carolina Mountains. Carpooling from MPCC; returning to MPCC by 3:00p. AT/Creeper Trail via Hwy 58-Lost Mountain, Damascus, VA (Ages 50+) Cost: $0 Thursday, August 22, 7:30a Hike from Creek Junction off the Creeper Trail to Lost Mountain shelter on the AT. This will be a challenging hike with elevation gain. The hike is 6.2 miles out and back. Bring a snack or light lunch and plenty of water. Carpooling; returning to MPCC by 3:00p.
Flatwoods Horse Trail, Holston Mountain, Buff City, TN (Ages 50+) Cost: $2 Thursday, August 29, 7:30a The trail follows the base of the Holston Mountain and is rated as moderate with some rocky terrain and steep hills but no major elevation changes. The hike is 5.4 miles and is a point to point with a shuttle. Bring a snack or light lunch and plenty of water. Transportation van from MPCC and carpooling; returning to MPCC by 2:00p. Preparation is the key to success! Remember to use your Hiking Checklist to pack for each trip. If you do not have a checklist, please contact the front desk to receive one.

It can include a wide variety of materials which are glued together on a surface. The origins of collage can be traced back hundreds of years, but this technique made a dramatic reappearance in the early 20th century as an art form of novelty, becoming a distinctive part of modern art. Designed with beginners and older adults in mind but all are welcome to enjoy this restorative practice. Outshine Fitness (Ages 18+) Fridays, 8:30-9:30a Cost: $2 Instructor: Lauren Qualls Its back! This outdoor workout is a great class to add to your fitness regimen. By combining an outdoor walk/run with weighted exercises, this class shows instant results! The class features a “go at your own pace” format, so it welcomes all varieties of fitness levels. As your energy level and strength increase, so will the difficulty of the class. Plogging (Ages 18+) August 15 and August 29, 1-2p Cost: Free Plogging is a mash-up term of jogging and the Swedish “plocka upp,” meaning pick up. In this case, litter. The plogging group will walk/jog and pick up litter together. On August 15th we will meet at MPCC and plog around our sidewalks. On August 29th we will meet at Willow Springs Park and plog there. Bags and gloves will be provided. Keep It Moving A supervised exercise program for individuals who have finished Cardiac Rehab, Physical Therapy or been told by your physician that you need to exercise but don’t know how. This program serves as the next step in your progression in establishing a safe, independent exercise program. This program requires a referral from a medical professional. This is an ideal program for the individual who is facing total joint replacement both before surgery and after finishing post-surgical physical therapy.
