9:00AM Keynote- Theater Rafranz Davis is an instructional technology specialist for a Dallas/Fort Worth area school district. As an advocate for passion-based learning, Rafranz uses her experience as a secondary math educator to help teachers integrate technology using innovative teaching strategies aimed at empowering students to be autonomous learners. As a writer and speaker, Davis frequently draws upon her background as a parent and woman of color to offer ideas and insight into how technology can be used in schools to not only break barriers but to provide opportunities and instruments for diverse learners’ voices. Her first book, The Missing Voices in Edtech: Bringing Diversity into Edtech (Corwin Press, January 2015), challenges schools to not only face inherent challenges of lack of diversity in decision making but also take steps aimed at changing it.

9:15AM The Challenges of Transforming EducationCampfire Room Educators face an incredible challenge and a tremendous amount of work in addressing the need to transform education to meet the needs of a new age. One significant challenge will include overcoming the entrenchment of traditional thought among parents, many educators, students, higher education, many so-called reformers, and politicians. Another challenge is creating a learning environment capable of capitalizing on the natural curiosity of students. Presenter- James Calhoun Google Doc- https://docs.google.com/a/anastasisacademy.us/ document/d/ 1HhOtzBHzzxF5QHv6F8i1vwygfsjUFfRLA6nKJpfncmI/edit
9:15AM Storytelling with Images: Two Beautiful Daughters- Little Theater
“Hope has two beautiful daughters- their names are anger and courage; anger at the way things are, and courage to see that they do not remain the way they are. -St. Augustine Two Beautiful Daughters is an art installation and gallery walk, but more than this, it is an exploration of perspective. Shelly will help you see education through a new lens, helping you to illuminate the story, inspire, and impact the world. 9:15AM Inquiry, Wonder, and Context in Learning- Coffee Shop
In traditional education, children are asked to find answers to problems created for them by adults. Concepts are usually taught from a textbook with little to no context as to how those concepts relate to us as human beings. At Anastasis, we help students explore concepts that make them wonder, discover problems to solve, ask questions, and demonstrate what they’ve learned in ways that help them make sense of the world around them. In this session, we’ll share examples of inquiry-based learning that inspires wonder, collaborate on ideas to apply to any classroom, and then create plans to implement right away. Presenter- Michelle Baldwin Google Docs- https://docs.google.com/a/anastasisacademy.us/ document/d/1TUaxLmWXTmhvJe1YR3lnRJaqByyId0yQTAYJQ1xkew/edit
10:30AM Leadership by DesignCampfire Room In this interactive workshop we’ll explore the lifeenhancing mentoring model, “Circle of Life,” to nurture and encourage intentional, deep-change, whole-life, transformational growth in 8 dimensions. This model is for anyone who influences and cares for others. During this workshop, Wes will give you a valuable set of lenses to become, even deeper, the educator you long to be. 10:30AM Rusty Food Trucks (Connections in Learning)- Team Nancy
What does the thought of a 'rusty food truck' evoke in you? Disgust? Possibilities? Bad food? Let's discuss perspective and risk taking as we guide and support learning and growth in our students and each other. We can build an inquiry based atmosphere in any environment...a perspective on learning and growth that opens wide the doors to organic, meaningful, integration that is naturally individualized and layered. I’ve built lessons, planned weekly face-toface days, listened to myself via Vocaroo, researched for hours to find the best iPad apps, and added hours of video to YouTube. During this session, I’ll share the best and worst (and everything in-between) of my first part of my year as an online educator. Let me share my excitement, struggles, and sleepless nights and ongoing questions with you. Then, let’s continue the learning together and discuss the future of virtual learning with little people. 2:30PM Alternative Approach to StructureCampfire Room
As educators begin to take over true reform efforts in this country, we become saddled by state mandates, district priorities, school perceptions, compliant students and concerned parents. We all want the same outcome: the best educated students ready to embrace their roles as true, successful member of their communities with a clear direction for their personal path to success. The question remains: How can this be done in a traditional neighborhood public school. As teachers in the Mosaic Collective, we challenged ourselves to achieve just that. 11 teachers, 1 administrator, and more than 100 selfselected students embarked on an educational journey to ditch the pre-packaged education and begin to create one of their own.
