Theseminarcourseaddressesurbanenvironmentallearningwith childrenandyouths.Itfollowstheassumptionthatthe(built) environmentcanbeseenasapedagogicaltool.Coursereadingsand lectureswillintroduceparticipantstohistoricalandcontemporary notionsofurbanpedagogiesandtheirmethodologicalapproaches, suchaswalking,drawing,mapping,narrating,recording,imaging, filming,andpodcasting.ThecoursewillpartlytakeplaceatTensta konsthallandincludesawhole-dayworkshop(onMarch1)with childrenandTenstakonsthall'spedagogues,aswellasteachersand artteacherstudentsofKonstfack(UniversityofArts,Craftsand Design).

Whatisoftendefinedasthepostmodernturninarchitecturecoincides withtheintroductionofthedigitaldrawing-inthemid1980th architecturaldrawingturnedfromanoccupationwithshadowandline tooneofpixelandcolor.Ononelevelthecomputerandthenew renderedimageweretofundamentallytransformthearchitectural professionfromoneofbuilding-makingtodigitalimage-making.On anotherlevel,itstartedanewunprecedentedobsessionwiththe analoguehand-drawingasthearchitect’sprimarytoolofexpression andself-promotion.WithafocusonSwedishpostmodernism,this seminarcoursewillexploreasetofarchitecturaldrawingsatArkDes archivetodiscusstheentangledrelationshipbetweenthearchitect, thedrawing,andthebuilding.Asanassignment,youwillwriteabout onedrawingofyourchoicefromthearchive.

Thestudioaspraxis:thedialogicalimaginationandconversationson studentsprojects.Thiscourseisconcernedwiththemethodand practiceofthestudiosystemthatunderliestheteachingofour architectureschool.Wewillexaminethewaysinwhichwelearn, gainingacriticalunderstandingofthepedagogyofthestudio,its potentialandlimitationsasaspaceoflearning.Thesessionswillbe basedondialogicdiscussions,exploringspecificthemesinrelationto studentscurrentprojects.Wewillinvestigateinpracticethemannerin whichapedagogyassumingitsbeginninginequalitymaytakeformand contributeinredressingtheimbalanceinpowerstructuresinherentin thestudio.

Theaimofthiscourseistoexpandourunderstandingofthesociocultural dimensionsoftheenvironment:thediversespacesandplaceshumans build,live,andwork.Howmightweunderstandbuiltandunbuilt environmentsasexpressionsofsocialandculturalrelations?Howcanwe understandthesocialbeyondthehuman,andhumansandnon-human relationsshapetheworld?Inthisseminarwewillinterrogatetheconcept oftheenvironmentthroughthelensofsocioculturalanthropology.Wewill examinediverserelationsbetweennatureandculturethrough ethnographicaccounts,films,andtheoryfromaroundtheworldtogainan understandingofhowrelationsproduceenvironments–fromcitiesto protectedareas–asmaterializationsofthesocial.
