COMING TOGETHER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Promoting Play After the Lower School for Boys moved to the award-winning McCausland Lower School and Commons in the fall of 2019, the Jordan Building was repurposed to house our Early Childhood Center (ECC), which opened its doors in January 2020 under the direction of Janet Giovinazzo H’01. ECC offers a warm and stimulating private pre-school environment for children 18 months to 4 years old. Aligning with SCH's mission to inspire unbounded curiosity and independent thought, the center follows the Reggio Emilia approach—an internationally recognized and respected method of teaching. The former Chestnut Hill Academy Lower School classrooms were thoughtfully renovated to reflect this philosophy. To extend the Reggio Emilia approach to our outdoor play spaces, the Building and Grounds Committee is committed to integrating a new playground space that incorporates equipment to improve coordination, strength, and critical thinking. “OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE AN AGE-APPROPRIATE PLAY SPACE DESIGNED FOR OUR YOUNGEST STUDENTS THAT EVOKES THE SURROUNDING WISSAHICKON AND TIES INTO THE REST OF OUR STUNNING CAMPUS.”
