Your support allows us to grant scholarships based on financial need, support summer public interest work through stipends, and offer a bar exam preparation program to all students. Expanding learning opportunities

In 2022, KU Law provided more than $67,000 in funding for summer public interest stipends. Through the support of the Bradley Family, the Bremyer Fund, the Richard L. & Suzanne Sedgwick Bond Fund, the Donald and Esther Atha Giffin Public Interest Law Fund, and the Public Interest Law Student Fund, KU Law offers stipends to help students offset the expenses incurred when they take legal positions that provide 240+ hours of public interest work.

“The public interest law stipend made my summer at the Federal Public Defender Office possible. My summer at FPD taught me how to be a thoughtful defender of justice and the importance of knowing clients beyond their case. I will take the interviewing, mitigation and advocacy skills I learned this summer with me as I start my career in public defense this fall.”

One Day. One KU. 2022

The fifth annual One Day. One KU. fundraising campaign was another one for the KU Law record books. In a 24-hour period, 125 supporters donated $119,445 to KU Law. As an institution, the University of Kansas raised over $3 million for programs and initiatives across all campuses. Since One Day. One KU. launched in 2018, donors have given more than $330,000 to support KU Law.

Your donations supported several initiatives, including: the Reginald L. “Reggie” Robinson Law Scholarship, which benefits female students interested in public service, and the Free Bar Prep Program.

Medallion honorees

The law school honored recipients of the James Woods Green Medallion at a dinner on April 9 in Lawrence. The medallion, named for the law school’s first dean, recognizes those whose cumulative contributions to KU Law exceed $25,000. ALLSHOUSE FAMILY KU LAW FUND shall be used for unrestricted support of the University of Kansas School of Law.

DONALD AND ESTHER ATHA GIFFIN PUBLIC INTEREST LAW FUND was established to provide financial support for students in the School of Law at the University of Kansas.

CHARLIE SPEER SCHOLARSHIP shall be used to provide scholarships for students with financial need in the School of Law at the University of Kansas.

T. ALAN PESCHKA LAW SCHOLARSHIP was established to provide scholarships for the School of Law.

BRUCE HOPKINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP shall be used to provide one or more scholarships for law students at the University of Kansas School of Law who have demonstrated both a financial need and an interest in the nonprofit sector.

BRUCE R. HOPKINS AWARD FOR NONPROFIT EXCELLENCE shall be used to provide for an annual monetary award in recognition of a student who demonstrated academic excellence.
