“Jonathan salutes the Great American Crooners— and the great American standards.” Jonathan Poretz is an American jazz airtist. He was born with a microphone in his hand that would explain why Pacific Coast Jazz artist Jonathan Poretz is so comfortable performing his brand of great American jazz standards to audiences large and small. Whether appearing in an intimate club or a large outdoor venue, Jonathan brings an electric energy to any stage he’s on, a talent he’s been cultivating since his early teens, when he sang professionally in bands that featured jazz greats including Charlie Shavers, Chuck Wayne and Joe Puma in his home town of New York City. Blending the swinging vocal stylings of Sinatra, Torme, Bennett and Darin, Jonathan is equally comfortable performing with a trio or a 17-piece big band, putting his own unique stamp on every song he sings and every story he tells through the great American standard songbook. Jonathan has toured the country as Frank Sinatra in the “The Rat Pack in Back” and has headlined several of the Bay Area’s top nightclubs, including Yoshi’s Oakland and San Francisco and The Rrazz Room. He also wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed shows, “A Swingin’ Night at the Sands,” a big-band tribute to the musical icons of 1960s Las Vegas, and “Vegas in the Valley,” his salute to lounges of 1960s Vegas. He is also a regular vocalist with the Harold Jones Boss Men big band, led by legendary drummer Harold Jones, the beat behind Count Basie in the ‘70s and Sarah Vaughan in the ‘80s, and currently on tour with Tony Bennett. Most recently, Jonathan has been starring in his own show, “Sex, Swagger & Swing: Sinatra and Darin in the Concert That Never Was,” which is touring performing arts centers throughout the Bay Area. www.jonathanporetz.com

“A wonderful new voice on the violin very refreshing— and very innovative jazz.” Mads Tollings Quartet is celebrating the music of the 60s Mad Men Era with his own distinctive style and innovative flair, and they Internationally renowned violinist, composer, and two-time Grammy Award-Winner. The show debuted to much fanfare at the Historic El Campanil Theatre. It is a fun and exciting program that is at once nostalgic as well as contemporary, and includes Academy Award-winning Movie Themes, popular TV classics, and Top 10 Hit recordings. Repertoire ranges from “Mission Impossible”, “The Pink Panther” and “Meet the Flintstones” to “Georgia on My Mind” and the Love Theme from “Romeo and Juliet.” So how did a Danish classical violin student growing up in Copenhagen in the 80’s discover his passion for the 60s? When Mads was 14, his father gave him a Miles Davis cassette tape that changed his life. Mads was hooked. He found a sense of intimacy and freedom in the 60s sounds of Jazz, Soul and early R&B, which inspired him to explore the possibilities of how to get there with his violin. The result is an exhilarating and thrilling musical adventure, with Mads guiding us to places we didn’t know a violin could go. Joining Mads on this journey are his “Mads Men”: World-class musicians Colin Hogan on piano & accordion, Sam Bevan on bass, and Eric Garland on drums. www.madstolling.com
