Hello! Welcome . . . Ever heard of “creative block”? Well here is to keeping that mojo on a high. In this issue we take a look at ways of staying creative.

We introduce you to the first of a series of inspirational newsletters. We will be sharing experiences, giving tips as well as tutorials. I would like to emphasize that this Newsletter is for creatives…artists, architects, fashion designers and the aspiring, yes you too! We cover a wide spectrum of topics one can benefit from and of course we’ll take a look at specific fields.
STAYING CREATIVE How can an artist lure the muse…keep the inspiration and creativity flowing. Like the saying goes “there’s many ways of skinning a cat”. There are numerous ways of optimizing, if you haven’t come across them. Below are some that have worked for me. CARRY A NOTEPAD OR A SKETCHBOOK Inspiration has a tendency to come when you least expect it, you don’t want to be caught off guard. It might just happen on your way to the supermarket! Having been prepared you can easily put down your drafts and later expend or finalize the concept. TAKE A BREAK Pull out a sketchbook, pencil set or markers and do anything that comes to mind, a doodling session isn’t just stimulating you can end up with an outstanding piece. You have just taken a productive timeout, you can have that treat now ;) PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND PRACTICE SOME MORE I believe this is the key to bettering a skill and also keeping the creative juices flowing. Upgrading your skills means doing better than you could previously and even saving time hence doing more. Those are just some of the perks of this exercise so set those goals and go for it. COLLABORATE Working with other artists gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and styles. This also opens doors of execution techniques, explore...get out of your comfort zone even. In turn we learn an invaluable lesson; TEAMWORK. KEEP THE HOPE ALIVE Staying creative is a strenuous task. It’s a rocky path on which we all try to stay on the ride. Skill can stagnate or even die out if it is not nurtured. Inspiration might not come promptly but it will come if you keep trying. So keep those drafts and doodles coming, it will pay off eventually. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH CREATIVE PEOPLE No really. Surround yourself with creative people. Take a moment to interact with someone who shares your experiences. It may be someone you interact with in person or on a social networking site. The idea is to revitalize. But don’t get lost in the process. Energize and get back to work.
