Conté Africa (formerly Conte Creatives Agency) is a South African company founded in 2018. Our mission is to empower and encourage brands and businesses to control their message, by finding creative and innovative ways to showcase their narrative. We are multifaceted in problem-solving, we offer brand strategy, planning, and styling with a finishing touch of content creation. We are famously known for being the mobile creative hub for Creatives all over Africa, we maintain platforms for Creatives to host their portfolios, giving brands access to world-class designers, content producers, artists, writers and the like. We offer custom made brand packages that reflect our individual client’s aspirations, needs and visions. We achieve this through working closely with our clients to understand their business strategy, audience, team and stakeholders. We strive to work with all our clients as an internal agency, for a better outcome of our services.
We have built our reputation, not solely on creating and developing brands, but also on living up to our name through storytelling, and content creation. We founded and published our first Magazine in 2015, named after our brand, called Conte Magazine, where we established relationships and partnerships with Designers, Animators, Illustrators, Painters, Jewellery Designers, Architects, draughtsmen, Creative Writers, Photographers and many more. During the production of the magazine, we worked with and featured creatives throughout Africa. We have actively managed 35-40% of the creatives we have featured, by connecting them to industry leaders and Global Brands, with paid opportunities such as projects and/or jobs, or commissioned work. All this has culminated in the creation of a database that boasts about 800 creatives in the African region. We have collectively collaborated with a few of our featured artists on projects like a photo shoot for Rolls Royce; a media campaign with Enhle Mbali, the Actress; Events and Talks with Jozihub; Brand projects for Micasa Music group, Event Hosting for the Annual Gala dinner in collaboration with Global Citizen, Enhle Cares Foundation, House of Mandela, Africa Rising and more. Conte Magazine has since been distributed in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, New York, Los Angeles, Central London and Brighton and Hove, UK. We’ve partnered with brands such as 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair, Gallery of African Art (GAFRA), O.N.K.A gallery, Sony Mobile, Hollard Insurance, Business and Arts South Africa, BASA, Parsons the New School for Design – our current director’s alma mater.
Charmaine K Siwedi, Founder and Creative Director of Conté Africa, was founded in 2018. A world-class Creative Designer and Art Director, with 11 years of experience in the Creative industry. Conté's bold mission is to build up African Creative Individuals in their respective sectors, by providing opportunities for them to enhance their skills and make a growing profit. The Agency has built up an impressive portfolio and enviable track record spanning Design, strategy, publications and events, all through collaboration and partnering with other like-minded individuals and organisations in South Africa. Having obtained her qualifications from Parsons the New School for Design in New York, she has grown to be sophisticated in understanding the Creative culture’s needs by working with lecturers who are industry leaders in their own right.
Charmaine’s ability to bridge the gap between business and arts is further demonstrated by her founding of a publication company (Conté Magazine) that has graced the shelves, cafés and Galleries of New York; Kenya; Ghana; London and Los Angeles. The brand is growing rapidly and the motivation behind it is finding ways to continue to globalise African Creatives and give them more platforms to tell their narrative to the world. Conté Africa aims to launch a Contemporary Creative book, which will look at more collaborations and partnerships with creative spaces in different African regions. The Book will be a starting point to developing the Creatives Conté interacts with throughout the continent, and this will showcase their craft and workshops developed to bring about more opportunities for these individuals.
CORPORATE SOCIAL INVESTMENT WORK Conté Africa is actively involved in Community development projects. We have Creatively directed and Managed the planning, artwork, and designs of the below-listed organisations: • Enhle Cares Foundation is a multi-faceted organisation targeting girls and women in disadvantaged communities. Our goal is to identify gaps in service provision through collaborative work and offer solutions to specific issues. • Forever Young Ball - A Charity Gala annual dinner for change-makers and future leaders. An experience that incorporates incredible African art, food and entertainment. That celebrates and honours individuals that have made a noticeable contribution to a societal cause during each calendar year. • Durant Sihlali Foundation - Mr Durant Sihlali was central to a founding generation of black South African Modernists. In collaboration with his Artist Manager and Family through Art auctions, events, exhibitions, workshops and more we are building an Artist Portfolio for young black Creatives who require a boost in the industry.
