Im Jahr 2018 gründeten die Kurzfilmtage gemeinsam mit anderen europäischen Kurzfilmfestivals das European Short Film Network. Die Partner des Netzwerks sind: Go Short Nijmegen, Vienna International Shorts und Short Waves. Dieses Jahr startete das Netzwerk mit dem neu entwickelten Online-Portal THIS IS SHORT, das die jeweiligen Inhalte der Festivals ebenso wie neue gemeinsame Inhalte – darunter einen Online-Wettbewerb für europäische Kurzfilme – auf nur einer Plattform zugänglich macht. Das ESFN, eines von sieben EU-geförderten Filmfestivalnetzwerken, entwirft mit dem Projekt ein Gegenmodell zur fragmentierten Filmkultur im Netz. THIS IS SHORT ist von April bis Juni 2021 aktiv – mit dem Ziel, ein Online-Festivalerlebnis zu kreieren und dabei die Programme von vier renommierten Filmfestivals zugänglich zu machen. Das Programm besteht aus mehreren hundert hochkarätigen Kurzfilmen und Live-Videos in sechs Kategorien, die jeweils für bestimmte Zeiträume online verfügbar sind. Die jeweiligen Programme der vier Festivals sind nur zu den geplanten Terminen der Festivals zugänglich. Alle Filme auf THIS IS SHORT werden ohne regionale Einschränkung und in Originalfassung mit Untertiteln gezeigt. Das Programm von THIS IS SHORT wird von den Mitgliedern des Europäischen Kurzfilmnetzwerks gemeinsam kuratiert und besteht aus eigenen Inhalten sowie direkten Zugängen zu den OnlineAngeboten der vier Filmfestivals. In 2018 the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen founded the European Short Film Network together with other European short film festivals. The partners of the network are: Go Short Nijmegen, Vienna International Shorts and Short Waves. This year the network launched the newly developed online portal THIS IS SHORT, which will make the respective festivals‘ content as well as new joint content – including an online competition for European short films – accessible on just one platform. With this project, the ESFN, one of seven EU-funded film festival networks, is formulating a counter-model to the fragmented film culture on the net. THIS IS SHORT is active from April to June 2021 – with the aim of creating an online festival experience while making the programmes of four renowned film festivals accessible. The programme consists of several hundred high-calibre short films and live videos in six categories, each available online for specific time periods. The respective programmes of the four festivals are only accessible on the scheduled dates of the festivals. All films on THIS IS SHORT will be shown without regional restriction and in their original version with subtitles. The programme of THIS IS SHORT is jointly curated by the members of the European Short Film Network and consists of its own content as well as direct access to the online offerings of the four film festivals.

NEW POINT OF VIEW

Der europäische Online-Wettbewerb präsentiert 23 Kurzfilme (unter 20 Minuten). Die von den ESFN-Festivals nominierten Filme werden ab 1. April nacheinander für jeweils 84 Stunden präsentiert. Jury und Publikum entscheiden über die drei Preise (insgesamt 8.000 Euro), die am 21. Juni vergeben werden. The European online competition presents 23 short films (under 20 minutes). The films, which were nominated by the ESFN festivals, will be streamed one after the other for 84 hours each, starting April 1. The jury and audience will decide on the three prizes (worth a total of 8,000 euros), which will be awarded on June 21.

FOUR PERSPECTIVES

Vier Perspektiven auf ein Thema, das historisch aufgeladen und pandemie-bedingt aktueller denn je ist: Solidarität. Vier Festivals stellen sich in vier Filmprogrammen (online für je vier Wochen) der Frage nach Zusammenhalt und Gemeinschaftssinn in Zeiten von (gesellschafts-)politischen Umwälzungen. Four perspectives on a topic that is historically charged and, due to the pandemic, more relevant than ever: solidarity. In four film programs (online for four weeks each), the four festivals address the question of cohesion and a sense of community in times of (socio-)political upheaval.

FESTIVAL WINDOWS

Die vier Festivals des Netzwerks haben neun weitere renommierte Filmfestivals eingeladen, gemeinsam einen Blick auf die Vielfalt und Diversität der europäischen Kurzfilm- und Festivallandschaft zu eröffnen. The network‘s four festivals have invited nine other renowned film festivals to join forces to open up an insight into the variety and diversity of the European short film and festival landscape. Each of the 13 curated programs is available for one week.

Im Programm Preisträger anderer Festivals werden deshalb auch in diesem Jahr wieder Produktionen aus aller Welt gezeigt. Alle ausgewählten Filme waren bei renommierten Filmfestivals in Wien, Rotterdam, Clermont-Ferrand und Lisabon erfolgreich. This programme offers a platform to films that were already shown at other film festivals. Therefore, film productions from all around the world will be shown once again in the programme Award Winners of Other Festivals. All selected films have been successful at other prestigious film festivals in Vienna, Rotterdam, Clermont-Ferrand and Lisboa.

Die Zeichnungen dokumentieren und konstruieren ein kollektives visuelles Gedächtnis und bezeugen zugleich eine Reihe von gewalttätigen Angriffen, denen die Waimiri-Atroari während der Militärdiktatur ausgesetzt waren. Casa da Cultura de Urubuí currently houses over 3,000 drawings made by the Waimiri-Atroari, a people native to the Amazon, during their literacy process. The drawings document and construct a collective visual memory from their learning process, perspective and territory, while attesting to a series of violent attacks they were submitted to during the military dictatorship in Brazil.
