INTRODUCTION_

Design is meant to be taken in like a breath of fresh air. There is good design all around. I love being able to spot it and silently obser ve its magic unfold. As the famous Stanley Kubrick once said, “Obser vation is a dying ar t.” I have learned that Graphic Design is problem solving. I’ve come across so many problems throughout the course of this journey. A big par t of being able to solve a problem successfully is just obser vation. As a Graphic Designer and a visual person, I consider this skill to be a blessing. So when I say that I am ‘Just Looking’, keep in mind that I’m never ‘Just’ Looking.

ORIGIN ALITY DESCRIPTION_

‘Experiments’ is a combination of t wo projects, both about experimenting with t ype. The first project asked us to create a poster based on a given word using only black and white type and photography. The other one is a poster for a chosen song. This poster had to be created using minimal sof t ware alterations to our photography of physical elements. CONCEPT_

The first poster is my subjective interpretation of the word ‘Fluidit y’. It revolves around a sense of ambiguit y present in a person’s mind. Also, the stor y is submerged under water which adds an organic tex ture, making it possible to read a small por tion of it. The second poster is based on the song ‘Ever y where I Go’ by The Black Keys. Here, I tried to capture the dark soul of the song and give it a visual mood.

LOOKING FOR_

POSS IBILITY DESCRIPTION_

The goal of this project is to develop a conceptual book about the future—20 years from today. We were asked to come up with a 64 page book with content sourced and curated by us. The topic selected was ‘ the future of sleep’. CONCEPT_

The visual system of the publication revolves around the concept of dreams and futuristic technology related to dreams. For that, I used blues and grays. There is also ample negative space around elements. The book is titled ‘Rest: Evolved & Modified ’, which is a play on the term Rapid Eye Movement (REM).

COMP LEXITY DESCRIPTION_

‘Classifications’ is a series of posters that highlight the various complexities within the dif ferent cla ssifications of t ype that set them apar t. Three distinctly dif ferent categories of t ype were selected, and their key features were pointed out. This series is meant to educate people about various t ype classifications. CONCEPT_

The posters use a wit t y approach to keep the viewers’ at tention because the subject may be a little irrelevant for most people. Use of big and bold t ypography and modifications of somewhat familiar quotes are the main at trac tions, which are followed by the finer details and nuances.

DESCRIPTION_

The goal of this project was creating a printed magazine as well as a website containing various ar ticles within a chosen subject. These ar ticles had to revolve around some unique interesting numerical facts about the selected topic. CONCEPT_

My chosen subjec t wa s ‘Rock bands of the 70s’, and I c ame up with a few fac ts about some of the most famous music groups. The individual spreads var y according to the mood of the stories, and each stor y ha s been given appropriate t ypographic treatments.

DESCRIPTION_

This project was about reinventing the way we see time by creating a time-line made out of alternative measurements of time, and not the typical units like minutes or seconds. The final deliverable would be an ar tifact that would narrate the stor y using an appropriate visual vernacular. CONCEPT_

This stor y is about a guy who takes his girlfriend to a rock concer t. The narrative includes mea surements like the songs playing, noise levels, their excitement, amount of beer consumed, and so on. These units form the stor y which is represented graphically. The graphic time-line is then applied on to a shir t which is a par t of the stor y.

OPPOR TUNITY DESCRIPTION_

We were asked to design a mobile or a tablet app that would solve a commonly occurring problem. We had to come up with a problem and then present ways to tackle it using an app of about ten screens. CONCEPT_

My app is primarily dedicated to helping people decide on what alcoholic beverage to consume. Aptly called ‘Bot toms Up’, the app lets users create profiles, make lists of their favorite drinks, learn new drink recipes, and connec t with other individuals with similar tastes. Mainly focused on a younger target group, this app finds a way to teach users the “hows-and-whats” of drinking.
