President's President's Letter Letter

Hi guys! My name is Vivian and I am your new club president! I’ve joined Key Club since freshmen year and I’m super proud to be part of this amazing organization. I’m ecstatic to work with y’all to make Key Club your most memorable experience throughout your time in high school. A little bit about myself is that I am Canadian and American (I like to sound cool and say that I have “dual citizenship”). Also, I have TERRIBLE vision and I’m literally blind without contacts or glasses. But to give you a quick overview on what service events are coming up; we have Relay for Life on June 1st where you can raise money for the American Cancer Society and spend the night at French Field. Each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps because cancer patients don’t stop when they are tired so neither will we. We will also have our annual spring Blood Drive that will be coming to Kentwood on May 31st. So remember to sign up if you want to table at lunch and earn some more hours before hours are due! Lastly, most of the officers will be attending Fiesta 5K in Seattle on May 5th so be sure to sign up as soon as possible so you can get your tacos and free t shirt! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you want to talk! I’m always open for suggestions and come find me around campus if you ever have any questions. Hopefully this wasn’t too long and that you read til the end haha. In Love and Service, Vivian Ma 2018-2019 KW Key Club President

EEddiittoorr''ss NNoottee HEY KEY CLUBBERS, HOW DO YOU FEEL? I feel good, because over the past couple months, I have been working on this very newsletter for all you Key-uties! I'm going to be honest, making my first newsletter has been a very long process, however, it's been fun - and I can't wait to make future newsletters. The purpose of these newsletters is to keep you informed, and also to make other non-key club members jealous of our AWESOME club! So please, don't hesitate to give me feedback (or compliments) to make our future newsletters better! In love and service,

Rebecca Rebecca Chhoy Chhoy Why Did you Join key club? I joined key club because behind my mask of offensive humor, crude insults, and darkness, I’m actually just a caring person who enjoys helping people.

Rebecca designed this logo for our t-shirts and won us the tshirt design award at D-Con!

What was your reaction when you found out you won the t-shirt design for our club? I was happy. I was actually contributing something to Key Club! It made me happy to see people wearing and appreciating my artwork!

What inspired you to design the t-shirt? @weabooo Rebecca Chhoy

The dragon mascot for Division 32. I like dragons, and people like cute things. So I combined the two and boom, a t-shirt design. 05

Meet Meet Your Your Hey guys! My name is Vivian, but you guys can call me Viv if you want. I am really pumped for this new term and blessed to serve as your Kentwood Key Club president. One of my main goals for this term is making Key Club feel like a second family to all our members. I want Monday meetings to be something you guys look forward to and be excited about. I’m always open to new ideas and I’m willing to talk to anyone! My favorite place to travel is

President

Hawaii. I’ve been to Oahu and Kauai and my goal is to travel to all the islands in Hawaii.

Hey Key-Clubbers! How do you feel? I hope you feel as EXCITED as I do about this new service year. I’m so glad I get to serve as your 2018-2019 Vice President, and please don’t ever be afraid to shoot me a message! I’m a current junior, and one interesting fact about me is that I’m an iced tea addict. Especially fruity teas. Peach is my favorite flavor. One of my goals for my term this year are to increase community service hours on average, per member. Always make sure to keep an eye out for events to volunteer at! My favorite place to travel to is Whistler, Canada. Skiing there is SUPER fun, and all the little shops right at the bottom of the mountain are perfect for roaming.

Vice President

Hey Key Clubbers! As it is the start of my term, I’d like to take the time to introduce myself. I am Serenity Lee and I am ecstatic to serve as your 2018-2019 Kentwood Key club secretary! My goals for this term are to make it easier for you all to serve your community, make it easier for you to access your hours, and get to know all of you on a higher level and not just as school ‘acquaintances’. I want to make things easier for members because I know that Key club sometimes isn’t your highest priority. Especially, if you’re battling your schedule trying to fit in work from six other classes. I don’t really have a favorite place to travel considering I haven’t traveled to many places. However, I really want to travel to Seoul, South Korea. People who’ve traveled there always tell me they’ve had a great time. Anyways, I’m always open for new

suggestions and ideas from you guys so please email me your thoughts or concerns you have about the club and I’ll be sure to get back to you about it. Let’s make it a great term! Your Secretary, Serenity Lee

New ! New Board Board! 'Ellooo my loves! I'm Julie Ngo and I am serving as your 2018-2019 Kentwood Key Club Treasurer! Although, I'm ecstatic to spread my love and passion for Key Club with all you lovely Kentwood Conks but I'm even more excited to inspire you all to serve to your school and your communities! As treasurer, I hope to actively engage more members in the service and social aspects of Key Club. Feel free to contact me anytime, I promise I do not bite! I cannot wait for what this term holds! A few fun/strange things about me: 1. I love blue raspberry red bull and any noodle dish (ramen, pasta, pho, you name it) 2. I

love small cities, big cities, any city! You can't go wrong when it comes to a city with a pretty view. 3. I drink about a gallon of water a day. Hydration is very important.

Hey there! I'm Jhacinda Caoagdan, serving as your 2018-19 Bulletin Editor. I'm so excited to meet you all and work with you to make the most out of this term. Some of my favorite places to visit is Seattle! As much as I love traveling, my heart is at home. You can come find me at Oasis tea zone, or Alki beach with my cousins. The picture of me here is a 'secret' boardwalk near the outskirts of Alki... let me know if you've ever been here! To find out about my goals, make sure to refer back to page 4 for my

Hey guys! I’m Phillip, and you’re current Webmaster! Some things you might not know about me, my ethnicity is Taiwanese and I’m a Lefty! My goal for my term is to promote the usage of the Kentwood Keyclub website! It’s an invaluable resource and I believe everybody should take full advantage of it! I’m also planning on aethestically revamping the website! Last but not least, I hope to make everybody feel appreciated and apart of the Keyclub family! After all, our motto is “Caring, our way of life”. Feel free to ask me anything, or give suggestions! I’m always open to new ideas! Although I haven’t traveled much, I do wish to visit Taiwan again! I’d love to explore Taiwan and strengthen the

mother roots my parents always talk about!

SAYING GOODBYE:Â FORMER PRESIDENT EDITION

Austin Do The past three years have been nothing short of amazing. Throughout my Key Club Journey, I have been so lucky to have met so many loving and motivated people who have pushed me in ways I never thought possible. I first joined Key Club as a freshman, looking to gain community service hours in efforts to make my college apps look more presentable. I was told to go to my first Key Club meeting by a senior friend on my second week of High School. Naturally I did so without doubt, but that meeting ended up being a poster making session for the board to promote the actual first meeting. To my surprise however, every officer welcomed me with open arms, and asked me to join them in making posters. From there, this group of officers quickly became my second family where they showed me the ins and outs of Key Club. Â

12

Upon arriving at my first DCON, I was astounded by the enthusiasm and passion of everyone willing to serve their home, school, and community, and I was deeply inspired by the fact that these people were working so hard to achieve such incredible feats but were simultaneously having the most fun.

As I became increasingly more invested in Key Club, those same officers encouraged me to run for office; first as Treasurer, then President, and then District Treasurer. Fast forward 3 years and 6 months, I am here today having had the honor of serving Kentwood Key Club for two full terms. I am extremely thankful for this organization and to have served alongside such a great board of officers this year. Even though we had a rough start and many ups and downs this year, we achieved so much and pushed Kentwood to new heights. I am so proud of each and every one of you, so thank you so much! Thank you for enduring all my flaws as a leader and putting up with my last minute-ness. Thank you for taking lead in the times I that couldn’t. Thank you to all my Key Club friends who’ve made my journey so memorable. Thank you, Yuna Park, for being my mentor and guiding me through my struggles as a leader, even though you’re an Alumni. Thank you Saeed Mahamood for being the most supportive Caucus Buddy by staying late nights with me to practice my speech and hyping me up at DCON!

Thank you Justin Englund for being my Key Club and Builders Club wing man! I still find it funny how, without fail, we always get into (multi-houred) deep conversations about Key Club every time we talk. And I can’t be more proud and happy that you’re our first ever LT.G (L-OV-E we love our LTG)! You’re going to do amazing! Thank you Kentwood and Division 32 for all the love and support! And finally, thank you Key Club for being the best thing High School has to offer! I’m sure that all of you on the new board will achieve even more incredible feats this next Key Club year: Vivian Ma, Maya Hirota, Serenity Lee, Julie Ngo, Jhacinda Caoagdan, Amanda Aguzar, and Phillip Han. I just can’t wait to see what you all will accomplish! For me, Key Club isn’t just an organization. It is truly a family that embraces anyone and everyone with unconditional love. And as my last leg of Key Club has begun, I will be sure to do everything in my ability to give back to the family that has given me the KEY to a new horizon!

SAYING GOODBYE: FORMER EDITOR EDITION

Angelica-Mae Bandulin My first Key Club moment was at Kiwanis One Day, it was the day of Kentwood’s Homecoming. At the event, I met a friend and planted a tree named Berry. After that day, I was hooked. I met so many great Key Clubbers who I call my close friends and I wouldn’t have been able to meet so many great people if I hadn’t joined this club. Craving the feeling of what it was to be Key Clubber, I was able to be Public Relations for Kentwood Key Club and Spirit Committee Chair for my senior year. Being able to be an influence and an inspiration to others filled my heart to the brim, maybe even overfilled it. This organization taught me so many things. And I hope that whoever is reading this will reach out to a fellow Key Clubber like how my friends did to me.

14

SAYING GOODBYE:

Cleo Mecua Hey Key Clubbers, how do you feel?! Throughout my 4 years of high school, that was the one thing that stayed consistent. Monday meetings, the bell, and the energy that fills the room. My love for Key Club didn't just happen overnight, but rather grew through the years. Coming in from a different school unlike most of the students in Kentwood, I was very shy and I didn't have any friends to be with. I wasn't entirely sure how I was going to meet new people, but that all changed when I got into Key Club. It sounds cliche but its true. Key Club does not only provide you with community service hours it also provides you with a family. Once you start getting more involved with the club, you'll feel what I'm saying. Don't take time for granted, make the most out of your Key Club experience. If you're scared to volunteer by yourself, don't be, Key Clubbers are one of the friendliest people you'll meet. If you want to run for a position, do it. You'll thank yourself later. Lastly, if you get the chance to go to DCON, DO. IT. My term as a fundraising aid has been one of the most memorable things I've done in Key Club. I'm privileged to have been a part of such passionate group of people and the Kentwood High School Key Club. My home. Once a dragon, always a dragon. Stay toasty, Cleobelle Ramos
