2014 The north coastline of the island of Aegena (area of Livadi settlement) is mainly consisted from jagged rock formations and by the existence of ancient greek burial sites. The project focuses on two rocky peninsulas which are connected by a narrow strip of sandy beach. On both peninsulas the ancient remnants of carved tombs and the other ceremonial constructions are not easy distinguishable from the rest of the topography. They seem to be part of the barren, rocky landscape. At the bottom of the sea floor, there are signs and geological indications that the two peninsulas were once united and that a part of the ancient necropolis lies under the sea bed. The project aims to restore the altered topography and to associate it with the long forgotten memories and legends. A pathway acts as a connector of the area and at the same time becomes the medium in order to perceive, reveal and understand the landscape’s hidden qualities. Monolithic constructions that emerge from the landscape are acting as boundaries or landmarks highlighting the area. At the northernmost point of the west penninsula a pillar of light is signalling the existence of the first necropolis and with every nightfall its beam illuminates the borders of the coastline in a past state. On the easternmost part, a long wall is retaining the steep and flimsy ground. Land and sea are connected smoothly through a series of protected from the natural elements public spaces - lookout points. The beach becomes wider and the small gulf’s sea bottom is being illuminated at night, revealing the sunken fragments of the land and the necropolis thus reuniting them through light. On the eastern penninsula the limits of the necropolis are bordered and highlighted by the tall wall that acts both as a gateway to the archaeological site and as an observatory. The burial site of the Aegenean warriors who died heroically at the naval battle of Salamis (480 B.C.) is indicated by grouping the linedup tombs with a perforated concrete plinth. Finally at the easternmost part of the site, lies a ‘‘hidden port’’ (kryptos limenas) that in Aegenean tradition it was a place that the warships could stay hidden from enemy spies. A half submerged construction, a tomb for the sailors ship, the trireme, is placed there as a reference to the Aegenean’s decisive role at the battle of Salamis and to their great naval tradition in general.

Defining and understanding the term “landscape” and “place” has become a primal issue for mankind. From primitive cave drawing to the vast variety of contemporary mediums, man expresses his emotions for the current issue. Vision is the major sensory organ for understanding space and objects. When trying to decode an art piece that is based on visual feedback, there is freedom of interpretation, but it becomes a common mistake to believe directly the image and not the actual intentions of the creator. Landscape perception is a whole and unique experience where all senses cooperate along with memories to decode the enviroment into something familiar. An image of a landscape is based mainly in vision, confining the experience of being actual there. What would happen if we added another sense thus describing a landscape into another form. Is it possible for a landscape to be analyzed and transmitted through sound waves and with the spatial informations that consist them,is it also possible to give a more experiental feeling? The dissertation is trying mainly to understand the primal elements of human perception, in relation with landscape and place through art history examples. Through analysis of the expressional and constructional means of various art pieces, it aims in creation of a new vocabulary that it will gradually reveal the essence of the «place». This new language is written in sound form. Converting visual, real structures of images and ideatic ones into sound material, I try to describe the essence of a landscape and to energize the consient perception of our existence, in order to achieve that unique experience. The last part of the dissertion is a case study of the conversion of an actual landscape into an acoustic enviroment.

2013 The Akihabara area in Tokyo is characterized from dense building space and bright neon signs that cover the buildings facades. Night turns to day and turning your gaze upwards becomes a dizzy task. The building we designed offers a pause from the optical polution. The black surface absorbs the city’s lights and the monolithic construction can be observed as a distinct object. Light is leaking from the building’s core through narrow slots, indicating an existence of another world. When inside, a vertical chasm organizes and reveals the different sections of the recreation center. The monolith cracks into esoteric minor units, each housing a different program. The main light source comes from each karaoke user that is currently singing. The weekend singer becomes the actual “hidden star” behind the projection panels. They performing for the users of the restaurant and the other public spaces that have visibility. The presentation layout has the form of a manga story. It describes the building and the various “rooms” through a visitor’s perspective and thoughts.

2013 Panepistimiou Str. is the most important cultural center of the modern city center and it’s also recognizable by the street’s actual name Panepistimio = University. That educational and cultural character has been forgotten from Atheneans. It’s a connector of two contradicting city centers, Syntagma Square which represents a more order-wise part of the city and Omonoia square were more vice and chaotic events or activities can take place there. Cars are dominating the street with high speeds that control the rythym of the pedestrians to also move fast. Citizens and visitors alike must have the possibility to walk on a neutral and a quiet part of the city center. Combined with a harmonic coexistence of urban infrastructure and natural elements, the walker by will get the opportunity to think (and rethink) the way his urban enviroment wants to be. This becomes possible through the replacement of the asphalt road with the primal ground of the land, dirt, which will be the main floor for plantations, infrastructures and urban networks. Along with the main street’s set up, the proposal focuses on the squares that are part of area. The trilogy’s neoclassical buildings will participate more with the street. Public functions and various educational and cultural programs will take place on the street through the knowledge boxes, that are slightly submerged. Klafthmonos square transforms to a spherical green hill which is is connected with a round arcade (stoa) in the nearby empty lot. This interference acts as an equilibrum factor with the trilogy buildings. Dikaiosinis Square is actual an extension of the main street.Main element is the rectangular reservoir which is used as a collector of water for the plants needs. Omonia square combines the plan of the present situation with the former rounded one, showing the evolution of that space through time. The water element returns and the concrete strips create partitions that reflect the city and its citizens, as part of self-criticism of the present situation..

2013 The current situation on the swampy landscape does not allow settling. Dense vegetation has overrun man’s constructions, orientation becomes difficult and the limits of nature and human enviroment are not defined.

Our project’s main goal is to identify and to reveal the various states of the landscape’s dominant element, water, redifining it’s relation with the landscape. Seven monolithic constructions are placed in certain points of the swamp that will act as housing infrastructures. Geometry is the medium to help the wanderer identify the special characteristics of the swampy enviroment. The cistern archetype is the most important construction in order to convert a landscape into a place. Around clear water, civilization blooms in the form of a hydrobiology research center along with ephimeral housing units for the researchers. The old swimming pool has become part of the swamp. Now it’s converted to an actual exhibit, a sample of swamp, and as an observatory. The disabled water pump is being highlighted as a remnant of a former state of housing. Water creates a natural gateway through the reeds. Artificial barriers highlight the situation and hold the vegetation from expansion. At the point where a small stream meets the sea, a spiral pier acts as a harbor for small fishing boats and as an entrance from the seafront. Last but not least, the same stream is not visible at the point where the settlement is.A hollow pyramid is place there in order to reveal the stream’s source, the mountainside of Achaia.

2013 The goal of the project is to reveal Naxos’s history timeline through a path that is surrounds the medieval castle. A new “defensive” wall emerges as part of the path that tries to reinvent the essence of the medieval settlement’s both perimeter and security qualities, trying to connect past and present. The southerneast section of the medieval fort’s defenses is extending towards the inland and it’s finally completed. The wall is a medium of organizing a new neighborhood. It consists of public and private spaces along with four different types of residences (monk cells, apartments for couples or families, hosting units for archaelogists and tower residences with workshops). At the bottom of the wall lies the public spaces, an archaelogical site along with a small exhibition space, a small plaza at the side of the church and an outdoor market for local producers and artisans.

2012 The new cultural building is sited on the entrance of the city, opposite the old port. Along with it’s main purpose of exhibiting contemporary works of art, the new museum must act also as a parking hub for that dense residential area.

The lack of public space in the nearby area and the great amount of space that a conventional parking lot needs, forced the building downwards, to the underground. The roof of the museum creates a new topography that is given to the city as a recreational public space. The folds of the surface suggest the various programms that lie underneath them. The museum’s main area is a spiral descention to the permanent exhibition rooms. The parking lot has the typology of the automated parking towers due to their huge space demands. Art and car are part of the same exhibition in the areas that the two programs meet.

The building emerges from the secret garden at the back of the site’s side. A peripherial barrier protects the inner patio from the surrounding city noises. The barrier opens when there is a public show or event. The dancing school generates it’s space through the movement of the slabs according to the site’s boundaries and obstacles. This is visible to the facades from the linear ribbon that frames the corridors. Two theaters that connect with each other, are operating on the school. One on the -1 level underneath the patio and the other at the western side which can extend it’s range to the the patio’s area for open air events, when the weather permits that.

2012 Patra’s seafront is totally isolated from the residential areas of the city, due to the existence of the highway.

Our proposal focuses on redefining that relationship, giving the waterfront back to the city. The whole area is unified into a greater block and the main highway is relocating to the southern part of the site. The asphalt is replaced by a strip of seawater and the opposing new port becomes an island. Residential and commercial activities create a new city center. The new area is car free and it has reunited with the sea.

Patra’s landscape is characterized by it’s mountainous regions that gradually descend to the seafront. Between mountain and sea lays the city’s historical center and grand public staircases are the main pedestrian connectors. Our main goal was to allow nature to retake a part of it’s former state. The vegetation invades the city’s center using the Agiou Nikolaou axis as it’s main route. A new floor is being placed in order to unite the various forms of pavements and through slits and voids, nature emerges. The staircase is extending it’s public space through platforms and balconies. The new ground fades away when it meets the seafront in the form of floating islands.

2011 Main goal of the project is to extend the already squishy public space of the city, to the polykatoikia’s (flat’s) site.

The nearby square is entering the pilotis and creates a public passage way. The neighboring blind facades of the neoclassical buildings transform to a vertical garden, thus contributing to the area’s enviromental upgrade. The appartments vary in size and layout and their users are mainly youngsters or young couples that are working mainly from home (as freelancers or other). At the flat’s ground floor there is also a mini market and a small fire station.

2011 A residential house with a working place. Two rectangular volumes (public areas and working place) are positioned parallel to the long sides of the site and a third one (private areas) is vertical to the former ones. Vegetation is inserting the site through the middle from the neighboring park, thus creating the outdoor areas of the house. The road side facade doesn’t include a barrier. The height difference between the yard and the road level acts as a buffer zone and the falling waters create a new relationship to the city.

2007 The abandonded hotel complex Amphitrite, at Sounio, lies as an empty carcass of a once golden age of touristic development. Though that age won’t return, the building’s modern architectural vocabulary needs to be preserved and to survive to the present needs. After surveying the building’s status and damage situation, we proceeded with the restoration proposal. The hospitality services are upgraded with a windsurfing center, a place for learning and renting windsurfing equipment. The new addition has a distinct different vocabulary from the existing hotel and it guests the public and supporting spaces. It starts as a barrier from the nearby high speed street and it gradually becomes a building, thus resembling the movement of an actuall wave.

2006 After of a series of detailed surveys and damage report, it was crucial to purge to the floor and roof frame systems and replacing it with a new steel one. The preseverance of the neoclassical stone wall shell allowed us to convert the ex-office space into a two storey convention center for the local community. Additionally a new volume made from concrete and large glass panels “invades the existing building and acts as the main entrance and as lounge.
