The Student Center Project

KY has a rich history in Töölö with the home of kylteris being the KY Building. Many of you reading this may already know the iconic KY letters standing watch over Pohjoinen Rautatienkatu, always glowing warm and inviting. All good things come to an end eventually, however when one door closes, another opens! Since Aalto was formed in 2010 and business students gradually moved to Otaniemi a joint project with Teknologföreningen (TF) and the Aalto University Student Union (AYY) has been underway to build a new student center in Otaniemi. The Student Center will be a place where all three organizations can thrive and maintain their own unique identities. It will have convenient services, spaces to chill with friends, and opportunities to encounter new people and ideas. All Aalto people will have a reason to visit the Student Center. Most importantly it will also be the new home for KY and will include, among many other things, our own event hall, spaces for our volunteers, and the KY Office! Work is under way and currently all three parties are working with architects on finishing up the conceptual design. Construction is expected to start in the beginning of 2022 and you will be among the first users when finished in late 2023! When opened, it will mark the start of a new chapter in KY’s history.
